Get fucked.

>Rakuten Securities, the securities arm of Japanese conglomerate Rakuten, has published a report on Nintendo’s performance for the period ending December 31, 2018 and their forecast for Nintendo Switch.

>The firm expects Nintendo to sell 18 million Switch consoles by the end of this fiscal year. They also believe Switch sales continue to remain slow in the 2018 fiscal year. They attributed sluggish sales to Nintendo not doing enough marketing in fiscal Q1 and Q2 2018, and the lack of big releases such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee in the first half of the fiscal year.

>Other reasons also include the fact many casual users are hooked onto smartphones, and the lack of big third party Switch releases that include “violent games”, “action games”, and “high definition graphics games”.

>Rakuten Securities believes Nintendo will face a challenge to convince casual users to purchase Nintendo Switch in 2020. They also cited the Pokemon 2019 RPG and Animal Crossing Switch as very important titles for Nintendo to succeed in 2019.

http://archive.is/AmxpW

They learned from the Wii U era they said. They wouldn't stagnate again and fuck it up again they said.

Why are you acting like this is coming from Nintendo? This is not a statement from Nintendo, it's basically some company in Japan asking if Nintendo is going to capture the casual market (which, to a certain extent, they have).

It happens when you see the innards of it thousands upon thousands of times for months if not years. Devs get sick of their own game, and just have to hope what they made is fun to people that weren't forced to slog through it over and over again in order to get it developed. Same thing with movies afaik.

>As you might have heard, Nintendo has come under fire this weekend due to some issues with the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019. It wasn't so much the gameplay issue that caused an uproar, but instead, how the situation was handled.

As you can see in the clip above, there was a bit of lag during Nintendo's most recent Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament. When the lag became an issue, Nintendo cut away from the action and turned the camera to the commentary team. That's when we hear that the lag seen on-stream wasn't actually being experienced by the players themselves. The thing is, all evidence points to that not being the case.

"I've experienced a tiny bit of lag when I played Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nothing deal-breaking, but definitely noticeable for a second or two. Plenty of other people have commented on lag issues with the game, asking Nintendo to fix things up, or work on a completely different online solution. Nintendo hasn't commented too much on those requests, but now the problem was front-and-center during one of their own tournaments. Unfortunately, it seems Nintendo decided to sweep the issue under the rug, and present it as something else."

We've reached out to Nintendo for comment on this matter. If we receive any official comment, we'll be sure to let you know.

Usually, you’ll hear Nintendo Switch fans complaining about the lack of third party or indie physical releases, but today is the complete opposite.

Taito has confirmed to a gamer living in Japan that there are no plans to release Darius Cozmic Collectiondigitally on Nintendo eShop in Japan. This means that the game will be available only at retail “at this time”.

Although the company apologized for the inconvenience caused, it did not explain the rationale behind the lack of a digital release. Things may change after the February 28, 2019 launch, but no promises were made.

If you’re looking for a copy, Darius Cozmic Collection Collector’s Edition and Standard Edition are available for import on Amazon Japan (ships worldwide).

卐Here we go卐 with this story again! Will Spyro Reignited Trilogy come to Switch? It's been a debate for quite some time, and now the latest bit of evidence comes from GameStop Germany. The retailer just added a listing for a Switch version of the game, and they say it's coming out on Aug. 16th, 2019. We'll reach out to Activision for comment, but it's likely they won't have anything to say.

DESIGNATED SHIELDING STREETS

>Earlier this week, we told you about aChinese TV channel illegally using The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s intro theme for a segment of their special program.

>Today, it looks like a television program in India has gone one step further. NintendoSoup reader Nitin Rao informed us that the Hylian Shield appeared in a Marathi serial called “Tujhyat Jeev Rangla”.

>What was the Hylian Shield doing in the drama? It was a prize for the champion for the World Wrestler’s League:

>It’s weird to see the Hylian Shield appear as a trophy for a wrestling tournament. Nevertheless, as Nintendo rarely grants companies the permission to use their intellectual property for broadcast, this is very likely another case of unauthorized use of Nintendo IP.

Looks like we now know what Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino was teasing the other day! Warner Bros. Japan and Level-5 are teaming up for a Ni No Kuni animated film! The news came from a special press briefing held just a few hours ago. Here are all the tidbits we know about the project so far.

>Set to debut in Japan this Summer

>Yoshiyuki Momose (The Legend of the >Galactic Heroes character designer) will direct

>Hayao Miyazaki's longtime collaborator Joe Hisaishi will compose

>Level 5 CEO Akihiro Hino is the executive producer and scriptwriter, and he is also credited with the original work

>OLM (Pokémon, Inazuma Eleven franchises) is animating

>Warner Bros. Japan is the distributor

>Actor Kento Yamazaki (live-action Death Note's L, live-action Orange's Kakeru Naruse) is the protagonist, Yū

>Yū is a high school student, and his best friend is Haru and his childhood friend is Kotona

>Through a certain incident, they travel back and forth between reality and Ni no Kuni

>Then Kotona's life is put in danger, the three must make "the ultimate choice"

>This "global" project has been in the works for 10 years

Game Freak has been doing a new video series where they showcase their artists and developers doodling while talking about various games in the company's history. We've shared all the videos in the series so far, but sadly, there have been no English translations. Today we get some details from those videos. Check out tidbits on Pokemon in general, HarmoKnight, Drill Dozer, and more below.

>HarmoKnight was the first game project that was developed via Game Freak’s ‘Gear Project’ internal competition

>The game’s design document was illustrated via a short manga that showed how the game would play

>Art Director James Turner says that when drawing, the most important thing for him is the the character concept

>Turner then aims for a design that isn’t too complicated, all while having a distinct silhouette

>This goes for Pokémon concepts he designs as well, such as Poipole, Phantump, Golurk, and more

>Art Director Takao Unno revealed that Pokemon ideas are collected from Game Freak employees no matter their position

>These ideas are then filtered for what is needed for the story (and region) and game balance

>As for who draws the Pokemon, it generally depends on if a character designer's work was well-received in previous games

>Aometimes if Unno feels that particular staff member is able to bring out the feel of the Pokémon, he'll choose them specifically

>2D graphic designer Hironobu Yoshida was in charge of character designs for Drill Dozer

>The last time he directly helped with pixel art was Pokémon Black 2 & White 2

>Yoshida describes development of Pokemon Black 2/White 2 “like a festival”

>Yoshida’s a bit worried about whether the current generation will understand the appeal of pixel art

>To him, the appeal of pixel art is how little space is wasted, and how artistic it is

>Yoshida was very opposed to having a female main character in Post too long. Click here to view the full text.
