I think there's a lot of counterfeit Kanger coils out there. I had a similar experience where I switched shops and the kanger coils they sold were really poorly machined, wouldn't fit right, were missing o-rings, and were made out of cheap brittle metal. So I went back to my regular shop, and they had standard quality coils in stock for a few months - until I got another pack of duds and decided I was tired of paying someone else 1.25 for coils that gunked up fast and may or may not even work to begin with. Either Kanger went downhill fast, or someone is selling cheap counterfeits.
As far as RBAs, I've only used the Lemo and Doge v2, which are all right, but each have their problems I want to upgrade to solve.
The Lemo has great flavor production, but I use a thicker juice for my dripper, and it's tiny juice channels don't allow the cotton to saturate fast enough. I've been looking into getting a Wotofo Serpent Two (pic related). The twisted posts should make coil building much easier too.
On the dripper side, the Doge v2 is capable of some really good cloud production - but the flavor isn't as good as I want it to be. Also, I like my dual coils, so three posts isn't really cutting it for me - especially when I build with nickel because of how finicky it is trying to get them to heat evenly. I'll probably get a Mutation v4 that has a deeper juice well and four posts and grub screws for a more solid connection.
Since you're coming off of a tank system already, I'd say give the Wotofu a look. Unless some other anon has first hand experience says otherwise, it seems like an easy deck to build on, and it has plenty of juice flow for high wattage mods.
