/vapor/ - Vaporwave

When I first got into vaporwave I kind of assumed it all to be mallcore or mall(whatever), but I later found out it is way more than sounding like background music to abandoned shopping malls (shopping malls are like the embodiment of consumerism). The point is that vaporwave critiques consumerism by embracing so much it becomes painfully full of soulless sounding things and advertisements that it should remind you of consumerism.

I'm really kind of rambling here, but look at stuff like SAINT PEPSI. His stuff embraces the logos of Pepsi products and his music is full of advertisements.

In a way, vaporwave has kind of done its job if you haven't noticed it. Since today's media is so pumped full of consumerism, not to notice the satire in the art and music (which it is choc full of) is making a point on its own.

my opinion, its not a thing unless you make it a thing. its whatever your imagination thinks it is.

my impression, it's a unique form of art that is only possible because of our capitalistic culture. we have copyright laws, everything has to be made from scratch over and over again, and with all these creations [movies, music, softwares, services, logos, anything] we sort of mesh it together to get a really interesting aesthetic.

and anyone who uses statues probably wiki'd what vaporwave was and is bandwagoning hard as fuck.

The similarity to the word "vaporware" is telling. It's like a midnight infomercial trying to sell you a product, but you're never sure what that product is or whether it even exists.
