Chucklefish kickstarted a 2D sandbox like Terraria, but with space travel. They got around 4 million dollars. Many of their promises are either unfulfilled or half-assed, and the release date has been pushed back from 2012 to 2015. They refuse to give refunds and ban any dissenters on the forums. Some anons on half /vg/ also discovered that they don't pay at least one of their interns, which is illegal in Britain, and that they may be committing tax fraud by not disclosing the 4 million dollars they earned.

>We’re super excited to announce that Xbox One owners will be able to play Starbound on console via Xbox One Game Preview for the very first time!
>Game Preview on Xbox One is a new way for fans to purchase work-in-progress digital titles and participate in the development process by giving feedback to developers as they continue to update their games.
>Starbound has benefited massively from the community’s feedback since we launched on Steam Early Access, with so many of you helping our little team squash bugs and create an overall better sandbox game (thank you! <3). We believe Game Preview provides the best opportunity for us to make Starbound an amazing experience for console gamers as well.
>This won’t distract us from Starbound’s continued development for PC, of course, as we’ll have an additional team working on the console version of the game. Ultimately, our goal is to launch Starbound in Game Preview and fine-tune the game for the best possible console experience. Once we reach Starbound 1.0, we’ll start working our way towards porting the game to additional consoles. :)

Hello, folks. I have some good news and bad news.
Good news: whoever asked for radiation-less versions of Jungle, Toxic and Alien biomes - they'll be included in the next build of CLeF.
Bad news: there are problems with making the entirely flat Grasslands biome. CF has either hardcoded the flatness of Barren biome (just like they did with GasGiant planets that are impossible to land at regardless of their parameters) or there's a thing that any decorations (like grass, flowers, underground caves) messing with the way world's surface is shaped.
If you prefer "yet another version" of Garden biome, but with Oasis and Spring sub-biomes (and threat level from 2 to 4), I'll include it too. Otherwise, there's really not much point in making it. The world itself, however, will not be empty - you'll be able to find Glitch, Avian, Floran and Hylotl villages on them (no tombs or dungeons with monsters on the surface, though).
P.S. The mod's repository has moved (again): https://github.com/dsp2003/clef/

You're welcome. It's a bit half-assed way, though, because some monsters are normally supposed to do on-touch damage and my patching just get rids of any damage-on-touch altogether.
On the other hand, all new monsters are programmed to simply follow player without performing an actual attack - so much for the lazy half-assed CF's job in its full glory.
Bad news: CF has entirely wiped out old monsters (including the Small Shroom, Bone Dragon, Jelly Boss, Small Jelly, Tentacle Comet and Tentacle Comet Sporelings) and their corresponding runtime libraries. This means CLeF is no longer working properly with Glad Giraffe and desperately needs help from someone qualified in Lua and Starbound API internals.

I tried to get into this game again but I just can't. I get bored so quickly. Does it get better? Do I need mods?
Also the hotbar/items are a pain in the dickfuck to use, there's technically 3 hotbars; the matter dicker, the dual wield thing, and the actual hotbar. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea? It's painful to explore caves when you have to constantly switch back and forth between torches, flashlight, matter manipulator, and weapon. I could deal with it if they were all in the same hotbar and you could wield flashlight while placing torches.
And they STILL haven't fucking fixed the retarded fucking thing where E opens a chest, but I closes it.

Pretty soon, though, I'm going to have to try to get back to actual content generation though, which will probably involve more colony stuff
spoiler for /sbg/:
spawn 'nudelamp' and hang it up in a house with a colony deed to spawn naked tenants: works with villagers, chefs, and merchants
/admin only currently, but I'll make them obtainable from the IBC questline eventually
No.19306
Some observations I've made poking around through nightly assets;
>i should actually be able to make weapons and liquids that apply the 'nude' status effect
>were someone to make a chargen ui mod to accomodate it, it should be hypothetically possible to give races more than two genders
>CF appears to be working on a tutorial mission that takes place in the Terrene Protectorate academy as part of the process of uprooting the old progression and adding an actual story
>once they do, it should be possible to make different but equivalent tutorial missions for mod races
Also, I got the Barometta lore done (pending review/tweaks), so 2 down, 4 to go (since I'm going to leave the Cdonts and Snosti to indobro as usual)
No.19307

So wet t-shirt/water gun based pvp?
No.19308
>>19307
Something like that. The nude effect is what you get from sleeping in most beds- it temporarily hides all of your equipment without removing it.
Actually, thinking about it, I could put that on a back item, too, or even make a module for it for the new survival backpacks.
But yeah, the neat thing about putting it on something like a water gun is that it should work on both PCs and NPCs.
No.19309
Something that I forgot to mention: I'm currently looking into adding racial passives for the racemod races, based off the mod that does the same for the vanilla races. If you have any ideas, speak up; I'll compile a list of possible passives after I look through the original mod.
No.19310
Can you make a weapon that deals zero damage? I'm guessing that plus nude debuff could be a nice idea
No.19311
>>19310
The vanilla water gun already does this. The bug net hypothetically does as well, though it's possible to bludgeon critters to death with it if you're patient enough.
No.19312

Those survival backpacks are pretty ugly.
Since chucklefucks' preview showed they only had one module slot, how about using a module in a crafting recipe to keep its effect but make the backpack disappear?
No.19313
>>19312
Could a modder could put the survival backpack effects into other items? A mining hat with a light effect would be cool but knowing CF's style of coding it would not work like I want it.
No.19331
>>19313
Yeah, for instance… The hat would always be on.
Its light would be multi-directional (despite having one front-facing lamp)
It would not tilt your head a-la the moving of the flashlight hand.

I heard that in 2014, when their forums had that "pedo" to deal with, and they shut down the forums for a day or whatever, that the pedo in question was actually the head developer, and after that incident, ALL of his posts and relation to the game were removed.
Is there any truth to that, or was it something like a volunteer mod?

Racemodguy here; a few of us are hanging out in the discord thing posted right above you, including Zero. Some other guy's handling the server now, though, so I don't know what the status on that is.
Racemod's been getting lore updates (check the page), and I'm currently testing out the nightly version in preparation to upgrade the mod to it; there's some pretty neat shit going on like generated quests and ship crews which are making the early game a lot more fun.
For anyone who wants to try NIghtly, though, you'll need this, since there are a couple essential things that are broken until the tutorial quest is done: http://community.playstarbound.com/resources/cheerful-giraffe-nightly-fix.3397/

I basically got this for free and still feel ripped off. I have played this until the first character wipe, then got bored with the lack of content and went back to Terraria.
I don't know if this has gotten any better, but while I still go back to Terraria from time to time I have completely forgotten about this turd.
