It might not be impossible to add anime characters to Joint Ops. The real issue is getting mod tools that convert to the obscure format it needs before it can be converted into a format that nobody has even heard of.

the problem would then be you're playing JO instead of a good novalogic game. don't get me wrong, i love the gamenights and all the work the argie has put into /v/mod. but JO will never be and can never be LW multiplayer again. the way that game handled movement on steep inclines made sweet maps possible that you would never get in JO. not to mention the gunplay and movement was much faster.

it may just be that LW is dead, like all things sooner or later. and if the only novalogic game we have now is JO gamenights, then i guess it's that bad.

There's still a to do list. Mainly what's holding back a lot of new raifus in game is finding a way to port them into Joint Ops engine which you'd think would be simple but it isn't. Goes that you need to convert the models into a file format that hardly anyone ever uses then into another file format that nobody has even heard of. Finding a way to do this that is convient and isn't a pain is taking a lot of time, having to dig out old 3D model tools that are no longer in circulation to find a way to do it.

Let me explain to all those fine folks at home how this works

You have a weapon definition file and in that file you specify the gun's normal/idle position and its transition position (when it moves towards the screen and then switches to the 2d sight)

A normal game would have the axis be the middle of the gun and hands, so it's easy to position both the guns and arms. Novalogic decided to put the axis where the chest would be, so any slight movement would fuck both the rotation and location, meaning you have to guess and adjust both at the same time

To review on some shit

Variable scope rifles (like the ar-10) or anything that has a good zoom magnification scope that isn't a sniper rifle is pretty damn op, one shotting at almost any range.

Some red dot weapons, like the ak103, having variable zoom levels feels rather off.

Weapons like the Tar-21 and the AUG have no reloading animations.

The XM29 with three zoom levels is just whack.

This is just an issue with 7.62x51 big boolet damage I would assume.

Also, "auto" elevation adjusting on the fly seems rather wonky for something for scoped rifles to use.

Most rifles feel like the rof is all the same, the famas should fire significantly faster, like the Mac-11 secondary does

This mod has a strict rule of "Don't remove base game content", this is because we want to expand JO, not turn it into a memefest like IC/ICE/TIC or AW2 or any of the other JO mods out there. These mods removed WAY too much of JO and the result is something unrecognizable, almost like they tried too hard to make it realistic, like ArmA. Just my opinion on the matter, probably explains why we never touched any of those mods whenever we played JO.

The red dot weapons cannot adjust zoom, they only have a 2x zoom much like all the guns did in vanilla JO. This makes the holosight weapons have some difference between iron and scope.

That's a trade off because we (currently) cannot edit or make our own animations. Vanilla JO never had a bullpup, so no animations for them exist, on that note most of the vanilla JO weapons are also missing reload anims (see shotgun and boltaction rifles), so there isn't really anything out of the ordinary. This is the best we can offer for those weapons for now.

It's based on the real stats, the XM29 had an integrated 6x sight with thermal and night vision capabilities.

Not much we can do there, that's mostly a hardcoded issue. I don't think anyone has ever complained about that before though, anons seem to enjoy being able to manually adjust their elevation and barely use "auto elevation".

We aim for that but everything we can do is only WITHIN what the tech at hand allows us to do.

Agreed, because quantity=/=quality. With radmod we aim to expand on JO's formula and crank the rad/operator as fuck dial to 11, this means adding all of the guns that anons love and are familiar with. When it came to 2.0 and adding weapons, we simply grabbed what we could take from other mods, but now it's become much more than that, much larger and we have to reconsider how we approach adding new weapons. Put simply, we're just trying to add fun, new and refreshing content without having to strip away what made JO radical or bloat it with memes and nonsense that destroy the fun factor.

In terms of the weapons, they'll be "re-balanced" as much as possible without breaking both coop and PVP. Some of the added weapons from 2.0 up until now will either be remove or remodeled due to "inconsistencies" (Read as: removing all the cancer from shitty or semi-decent JO mods and making higher quality replacements ourselves.) New weapons will be added and they'll fit the time period and style of JO, stuff that should've been there since day 1.

As much as I love the feedback and suggestions from anons, asking for raifus would be asking for trouble. We'd be up to our necks with laundry lists of guns, both obscure and popular ones. I'd be all for it though, but JO is missing stuff that's obviously missing (G11, more Russian/Chinese hardware or just stuff that is blatantly missing like a fucking FiveseveN or a SIG P226 among others, proper SAS player models among others, etc.) I'd rather focus efforts on those because people would really enjoy them as new additions, it both fits the time period and also fills the gap of weapon nationalities. The majority of the guns in JO are either US or H&K stuff. Of course we'll add fun stuff, but always within reason, blame the engine and tools available.

No, the way the maps work in JO/DF is not normal.

See in a normal game, for example HL2, you could spawn shit using console commands, anything from NPCs to vehicles to weapons. In JO, the NPCs and vehicles are tied directly to the map, so you can't spawn anything in, it all has to be set directly from the map editor. The weapons load only for the players, there is no "drop weapon" or "pick up weapon".

the answer like all things novalogic, is more complicated than a simple yes/no. Nile is technically faster when it comes to results (like placement of objects, previews of sight-lines, etc…), but nile is also a buggy pain in the ass to work with. MED is much better when it comes to events and waypoints MED also has more options than Nile for events. i've also had to often import a map into MED just to get the events working correctly. but MED is an ancient map editor, and behaves like one. my advice to you would be to get both, and more importantly update Nile and save VERY frequently when using it

oh, and if you're planning on using both to edit a map, start and save the project in Nile as .Npj. Compressed Nile Projects (.npz) are nice in that they don't clutter your root folder with a shitload of map files assuming you make a bunch of maps but MED can't open .npz files

Novalogic's models are actually pretty high poly and surprisingly detailed, problem is that they made the textures optimized for 2004 PCs, so they look like slop and the normalmaps which I'm actually quite surprised JO's engine even allowed the use of normal/bumpmaps are 100% garbage or just straight up missing.

The other problem are the custom weapons we ported over from other mods, those are hot garbage no matter how you look at them. We can fix that and the textures (both diffuse and normals) of both the new and old weapons so we have something nicer to look at. If only we could say the same thing for animations.

It could viably work as either a primary or secondary. Personally I'd have it as a secondary.

Problem with that is JO has more variety in terms of primaries instead of secondaries and the clear over abundance of US-made weapons and 5.56 (pic related, took my time to count the guns from each nationality)

We're currently have a list of stuff that works and fits inside of JO all stemming from different nations, because we want more diversity in radmod :^)
