Alien Factions? Personally I like to believe that this was a secret cloning project, basically in case one of the leaders died in transit another could take its place. Course it was limited (not like in the actual game when cloning becomes commonplace)

I just started playing Civ V. Haven't played a Civ game since Civ II on a Mac IIci back in like 1997.

I am getting the hang of it pretty quick since the core game seems to be unchanged, but I am lost as far as strategy goes to win the game with something other than domination.

Also, mods? What are some good mods that improve the game, but don't add dumb units or things to the game?

I never even once managed to mod my civ 5 game didnt see a reason too,i never tried to win civ with any other mode besides domination unless you are on an island by yourslef the enemy ai cant into naval battles at all

One of the best aspects of the older games was the real historical figures you could meet and learning about different country's buildings and stuff

In my opinion it feels more like a turn based C&C then a civ game. After I blazed through the tech tree to hear the quotes and saw the units I was done with the game.
