Timeshift
Release date: 2007
System(s): PC, 360, PS3
Developer: Saber Interactive they made the R.I.P.D. game
Publisher: Vivendi
A neat mid-late 2000s shooter of the 'solid shooting + gimmick' sub-genre, it's best described as Half Life 2 if it had actually good shooting instead of a physics fetish. First hour or two are pretty dire but after that it picks up well. Gimmick is time powers (rewind, slow, fast-forward)
Where to get it
Legitfags: https://www.gog.com/game/timeshift or https://store.steampowered.com/app/10130/TimeShift/
Piratefags: https://ghostbin.com/paste/mjoyo
Installation
It's pretty basic but make sure to get the 1.2 patch (unless you downloaded the pre-patched version) from https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/TimeShift#Patches (note that the (((Steam))) version does not come patched)
Other shit
'Windows 7 and above issues: right click timeshift.exe (look in bin folder) and set it to compatibiltiy mode for XP service pack 2 or 3. If it still fucks up try compatibility for Vista service pack 2.
FoV fix: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/TimeShift#Field_of_view_.28FOV.29 (note it's vertical FoV so follow the guide instead of just plugging in your normal FoV

Had a rusky repack laying around so I installed the game. Working on wine out of the box, the only problem I had is that it was using a wrong resolution but that was easily changed in the video settings.
If you get a nag when launching the game about incompatible video drivers click play anyway, worked fine for me, and if you want to remove the nag you can set wine to emulate windows vista.

Huh, TimeShift? Never heard about it. I think the name made TimeSplitters pop up in my head at first, but it sounds neat. I really like the idea of these threads, too. I might not be joining for TimeShift at the moment but it sounds like it could be a lot of fun to jump in at a later date.

Yeah, I like trying out random games though. It can be really fun to boot something up and experience something brand new and form some thoughts on it. It's also why I like old games like Worlds.com and stuff, because I can just roam and get lost and see tons of weird shit people left behind. Allowing yourself to follow that freespirited curiosity is honestly great because you get to have so many unique experiences with tons of things you just decide to do and try on a whim, and it's a lot of fun when it comes to video games.

Yeah the time shifting mechanics were well done, and the game had a cool aesthetic up to a certain point, although i think a cyberpunk theme would suit it better.

Yeah, it seems like every time the devs had a setpiece it just sucked. More urban timeshifty combat would have been better.

The AI in general is neat. If they see you and you freeze time and get behind them they'll shout out about losing you and start hunting for you. If you do it but end up still in their sight they'll shout about you being able to teleport.

At least the technical aspects of the game (beside people who seem unable to play it) are competent, the game looks good, structures get destroyed a bit by bullets, that kinda stuff. The game surely needs to reduce those "wait for this cut scene to finish so you can continue" moments (though it's still preferable to cut scenes in which you don't have any control).

Was interesting overall to try but it is not something I would bust my ass to play again. I am liking Nocturne so far even though again it's not something I'd normally enjoy but hey it's at least trying something different and I didn't have to pay for it. Or look for a torrent.

Got to the turret section and quitted after getting frustrated at the airplanes coming from the base
Deep inside the game I still feel that there's another game that wants to exist, but can't because it had to go with what was trendy in the moment. At least the art style looks like it, it's interesting but it seems muddled within the slow walking and small health.

I've played this before many times and recently did another playthough. I picked this up on a whim because the boxart looked cool and I was in the mood for a shooter. I was not disappointed, I fucking love the za warudo powers and how fun the time flow feels, the atmosphere and designs in general of guns, enemies and environment look great and I'm always happy I picked this up.
My only complaints are:
>bullet sponge enemies
This makes higher difficulties a chore because it takes entire mags to take down one dude and you don't have enough time juice to really dispatch them all, not to mention that you're made of paper and glass so one shot means insta-death
>clunk
It feels kinda slow in some places and the movement is off, not so much that the game is unplayable but just enough to notice. I got used to it eventually but I felt this was worth mentioning
>AI
Well it's not fear tier AI (but unfair to compare it to FEAR but just an example) but the enemies kinda walked straight into danger most of the time or dont try to flank if im in a spot for extended periods of time. Feels like just waves of mindless zombies with guns instead of squads of trained soldiers.
>"""""plot""""" and """"""""""""""ending"""""""""""""""
I wouldn't have listed this but since the ending is a fucking cliffhanger It always leaves me with a sour taste because while i enjoy the game very much, i'm left with an unsatisfactory end with more questions that will NEVER be answered. The story being told in flashbacks seemed kinda tacked on because it was confusing, were they dreams or memories? was i heading back into the normal timeline? who was the commander of the rebels?
Obviously it doesnt matter much because we're all here to stop time and blast fuckers away with shotguns but I might as well mention this stuff.

You do realize you can use the time abilities during the turret sequence right?
e9b851 No.69100
Well I finally completed the game. I suppose I better break down my thoughts on it.
First off is the gunplay. It's fine. Could be better but is still fun. Has a nice mix of weapons in game that clearly some thought went into how they worked. The flamethrower is insanely nice.
Unfortunately there are a few issues with the game. Some are crap like the Assault Rifle and Shotgun and you will never see yourself using them later on unless it's an emergency. Crossbow is flatout better than the Sniper. Pistol does not have enough drops around to be useful despite being a good weapon. So options really towards middle and later on is - Crossbow, EM Gun, SMG and Rocket Launcher.
One of the strengths and weaknesses of this game is that there is plenty of ammo around so you can always use the fun weapon of choice. Unfortunately this also means you rarely feel the need to use anything other than you are comfortable with so a lot of guns that appear you just don't use.
e9b851 No.69101
>>69100
The entire game feels like it's been someone who played Half-Life 1 and 2, frustrated by the shit parts of the game and has decided to make a game that aims to take those sequences everyone has blanked from memory and make them playable. I will say that the one thing that stood out heavily was the vehicle and level design. Clearly a lot of thought had been put into how shit looked and one of the biggest fucking cock teases in this game was the fact you could not pilot the jets, tanks or mechs. Only use a shitty quad.
e9b851 No.69104
>>69103
The game has a lot of little features you never really get to explore. Primarily due to the fact the time power gimmick actually doesn't last long enough. It screws up the entire pacing of the game. Nothing illustrates this the most when you get to puzzle sections which really are cancerous. Overall the game feels like it should play faster than it does.
e9b851 No.69105
>>69104
Final thing I'll say is about the AI. The first level of the game the AI is insanely different to the later parts of the game, almost as if they were recycled from a completely different game.
While at first they are bullet sponges where you need like 5+ shots to the heat for them to die when you get to the outdoors as it were they change drastically. For example you can despatch most of them with a well aimed headshot, or 2 if they have a helmet on. Another thing is they react to where they are shot at so it is possible to trip them up by shooting them in the foot.
It's retarded that the game gets a lot easier as you progress through with the hardest part of the game being the start mainly due to not having tools to do the job and the fact everyone is a complete bullet sponge.

I thought it was more of a >you couldn't save her kind of ending because basically krone killed his gf and he tried to go back and save her but that would have caused a time paradox so the suit undid it I thought it seemed rushed and anticlimactic in general but at least the cutscene where you just shoot krone in the head was satisfying.

You are some dude who works at a laboratory when your boss Krone uses the time-travel suit you all built to go back in time and crown himself emperor of Earth, blowing the laboratory up behind him so no-one can follow. You manage to grab the other prototype time travel suits and follow him moments before everything goes to shit. Not wanting to die you instead follow Krone back in time.
You arrive a bit late with your memories a bit scrambled though, hence the flashbacks and Krone having his empire all set up. You decide to go kill Krone anyway because fuck him. Unfortuneately, you arrive just in time to watch the resistance against Krones rule get stomped out (this is the first level).
Luckily your time-travel suit pulls you back a bit further in time and the rest of the game up till the final level is you basically doing shit for the resistance so they won't lose the final battle this time around. For example, it's been a while since I've played but if I recall correctly, the guys you save in the webm here: >>68969 had apparently executed in the first level timeline but in the final level are able to help the resistance, there's probably some other stuff you do but I can't remember.
Anyway, as your memory clears it turns out you're a government agent of some kind sent in to spy on Krone to prevent him from going and doing what he did. So you go kill Krone and then try to go back in time to stop the scientists at the lab from dying which you succeed at but then time paradox bullshit drags you into a parallel universe for a sequel that never came.
That's it as far as I can recall, been a while since I played it.

Clearly it is a Soylord who has gone back in time to change the course of human history so that humanity is forever addicted to Soy. However he underestimated the power of the Swole which in turn united hordes of Swole warriors to make great gains against the tyranny that threatened humanity for the Swole will not go quietly into the Soylant night.
Thus enters (You) as a player, plucked from your gym session to enter a timesuit to forever repeat weight training so that you may become a true champion of Swole which together with your brothers wage a war to defeat the Soy and the Soyboy monstrocities.

Okay what is with these shitty ass puzzle sections where you need to time your powers to a fraction of a second and wait till the bar is full before even daring attempt the challenge? They are annoying as fuck and some cases feel impossible unless you know exactly where to go like charging through a minefield.

This feels like a game that has been spliced together by bits of other games using a lot of cliches and tropes.
You get the generic turret sequence
Generic train sequence
Generic outdoor vehicle section
Generic storming a fortified position
Generic boss fight against a giant walker with a benis gun
It is almost as if someone is deliberately making a parody game.

Now these not so much
What I get from this list is that, either cliches then were less shit than cliches now, or I have generic taste for liking it how it is.

Anybody knows a good free software for vidya screenshots?
026729 No.70346
>>70317
I personally use pirated Fraps, this is hands down the best tool to take screenshots inside fullscreen games without fail. The free version should be enough for you but it only saves large BMP files, so you'd have to regularly convert them to your format of choice with a converter (e.g. XnConvert).
The second best option is PicPick; a free general purpose screenshot tool with a portable version available. But since it's not geared towards games like Fraps don't expect it to work with all fullscreen games.

Global Operations
Release date: March 2002
System(s): Windows
Developer: Barking Dog Studios, after 2002 known as Rockstar Vancouver
Publisher: Crave Entertainment and EA
https://files.catbox.moe/d05i6j.mp4
Barking Dog Studios was hired by Valve to help the Counter-Strike team with beta 0.5 of Counter Strike and then they decided to make their own Counter-Strike clone which people hailed as a Counter-Strike killer but because it did not achieve that, it got lost to the passing of time, despite rather positive review scores.
Then Barking Dog Studios got acquired by Take-Two Interactive and got renamed to Rockstar Vancouver, then they released Bully, helped co-develop Max Payne 3 and were merged into Rockstar Ontario. F
Fun thing of note, this game uses a modified LithTech engine 2.x
It's older than FEAR's though.
You can fire a FAL at full auto and it's hilarious.
Where to get it
Legitfags: only physical copies from amazon or ebay for now, sorry
Piratefags: https://mega.nz/#!l1ABnIoR!L8YjhiXci9aVUfGx83YcY4ABgzg91hZPdda41C9Xqkg
Installation
1. Mount the disc image
2. Insert CD-key 5000-0000000-0000000-5021
3. Follow installation instructions
4. Install the v2.0 patch and overwrite with the v2.0 crack
Gameplay tips
The training courses aren't important but they're a nice introduction to the gameplay and controls, which I would recommend changing to your tastes as they're a bit atypical.
If you get shot down, you can be revived by a Medic from your team. If you do get revived, be aware that the weapon you had equipped before being shot fell to the ground, so don't worry if it's not in your inventory.
Armor plays more of a role than in CS.
This time around, Bots DO listen to your voice commands, especially when you call for a medic with [voice menu]-1-5.
Not that important unless you wanna be the Intel class, there are cameras strewn around the map that can be hacked or are already usable depending on your team, that can be used when you are on the intel screen, giving valuable insight.
The match showcased in the included video is around 5 minutes long, but they CAN drag on for way longer. Strategy and teamplay becomes essential to progress then.
Common issues
None so far. Works fine on Windows without any fixes needed.
The v2.0 patch includes widescreen, and it's a bit wonky, but it's good enough.

Ah, I noticed a bug after playing for some time, lemme make an addition.
Common issues
GO hates alt-tabbing and it's been acknowledged by the devs in the readme. One adverse effect it may have is dropping you from your current match. I'm sorry.
It may be fixed if you enable windowed mode and use some 3rd party borderless windowed program but I don't know how to turn window mode on.
