Combat sets are really up to personal preference, but the Dyson is probably easiest to get due to how piss easy the Dino Dome is.

next lockbox is herald. iconians are resting with a tremendous armada on their feet, MU plots taking other realities, the alliance needs to reform all of its 3 fleets and sela may need to be trialed again, which means she will escape prison again.

That's how treaties work in Star Trek. It's just let bygones be bygones pretty much, no hard feelings about the billions dead. Of course, the Iconians were winning, so pretty much everyone had to accept their terms anyways. The One-Armed Bandit won't be nearly so tough by herself, maybe genocide a planet every generation or so, no big.

 No.16135

So let's see.

Had the MC and the gang destroyed the Iconians, the Iconian war wouldn't have happened, the hobus supernova wouldn't have happened, Nero and Spock going back to past to start a new timeline wouldn't have happened and lot's and lot's of people would still be alive and well.

If Hakeev didn't get recruited by the Iconians he would have gone to the Borg project and invited them to destroy Romulus instead, intentionally or otherwise. It's destiny that Romulus get BTFO.

It's funny how they didn't even touch on the possibility of removing the Borg while they are fucking up time.

Okay, no 7 of 9, but she quit the project anyway so fuck her, but nothing else of value would be lost if the Collective were to be wiped out. All that would happen would be a resurgence of civilisations, commerce and diplomacy across the whole fucking galaxy instead of just having Borg all over the place.

 No.16142

>>16141

There could be a chance though that one of the races the Borg assimilated would just form a xenophobic empire that would go around wiping out planets of life.

Or there could be a second federation in the delta quadrant.

Nobody knows and nobody will know due to shit writing.

 No.16143

>>16142

>xenophobic empire

It's pretty much impossible for them to be worse than the Borg. The Borg by their very nature are at a permanent state of war with whomever they come to contact with. A xenophobic empire could be pretty bad, but even if they kill off other specias by the planetload, they would be a localized terror at worst, and would collapse in time.

The Borg are a general galaxy-wide problem that assimilate instead of destroying shit.

I know we should not expect not shit writing from an MMO of all things, but the very premise is so fucking interesting that it's sad seeing it just go like that.

 No.16145

Basically, when ever there is even talk of removing some major evil via time travel shenanigans, it falls into this.

"Ooh, but we cant remove them or otherwise some other big empire would take their place and hamper everyones evolution up to this point!"

>from a klingdom point of view

these wargods are weak and meek, but hold honor and culture in high regards. with the best of the intentions they paved their road to damnation by letting weaker species arm and kill them. their warlike change was expected but foolish, i bet his return to the past 2 week prior was a plot device from kahless to save all the honorable warrior's death from the peace the federation would bring.

Because of the Prophets, The Sisko would still have happened, still opened the wormhole, and still exposed the AQ to the Dominion; the only thing that would have been different would be that Jennifer would still be alive (and maybe not even then, because muh destiny).

Also, remember the Borg have time travel too. The lynchpin of the Iconian plan working was that the igonians can't into time travel.

 No.16162

Hello boys and girls!

Want some more head cannon i cooked up?

Here comes!

The reason why Feddie captain decided to not kill the Iconians in the past was because the Feddie captain was actually a mirror universe counter part of himself.

Now you are asking, "why wouldn't he kill the Iconians then if he came from a more violent universe?".

Well, that is because the MU guys don't want Prime universe guys to win the Iconians in a way that would leave them strong, instead, they sought a way to weaken the alliance in prime universe, first by infiltrating their own temporal agents inside the Krenim research lab, posing as their prime universe counter parts, sabotaging the research and re-coding the simulations so each time it would give them a worse than bad result in the end.

Then when the Iconians were finally attacking Earth itself, one of these Mirror operatives, posing as a prominent captain in Federation forces, was sent to the past where he then allowed the Iconians to survive, and bought a way for a peace of sorts.

After all, it takes less war potential to conquer weakened alliance of three or more nations, than it would have to take on the Iconians of the Prime universe.

Well, that was that.

Thoughts?

Just apologism for Cryptics shit writing or something actually interesting?

So it all comes down to Cryptic having shitty writers.

Well, i still had to vent my disbelief on the lack of quality of this writing somewhere.

Oh and i decided to make a mistake today.

I went to STO Forums to see the fallout there.

First thread that comes up about the new episode is praising it, saying that the story was "magnificent" and "Beyond movie or TV series quality".

That got me thinking about what would be the chances of Cryptic having hired goons posting on their forums, shaping the general opinion.

 No.16172

>>16171

For reference, here is the thread i read a bit back then, looks like there has been at least one new post that is heavily against the new episode and after some further reading, it seems like folks are dissatisfied with the episode fora reason or another.

>That got me thinking about what would be the chances of Cryptic having hired goons posting on their forums, shaping the general opinion.

100%, and 0%.

They literally have Trendy, a paid shill, to make sure dissent doesn't get out of line. Don't think the mods are paid, but they're there too. However, do you think the forums would be so hostile if Cryptic (or PWE) was in there trying to astroturf? No. The devs hardly go to the forums anymore, except to the forums and threads relevant to their jobs (like the one dev that goes to the Art forum to find art bugs and stuff).

Pretty much you people here are the only ones that really hate this ep for reasons besides blind hate. A few easily patched plot holes aside, it was bredy gud. I could certainly see "better than tv or movie quality": a lot of the movie and tv stuff was absolute garbage, remember. This ep is way better than the worst stuff, and probably above VOY average. Low bar, sure, but the bar has been overcome here, and in other recent missions.

Are you implying that this is better than the wrath of Khan?

Well, we saw some voice acting, some nice models and a city quite heavily inspired by the dyson sphere.

Also the combat part was fun, but the story and the fact that there was absolutely no chance for changing the plot in any way is just insulting.

>are you implying that this is better than the wrath of Kahn?

No. Learn to read, idiot. I didn't imply anything: I said it was better than the bottom-tier movies and shows, so therefore what some of those people said is technically true.

>but the story

What didn't you like about it besides

>that there was absolutely no chance for changing the plot in any way is just insulting

99.9% of video games don't let you change the plot at all. That's insulting? That the dialog choices didn't seem to branch regardless of your choice was disappointing, but hardly insulting.

 No.16177

>>16176

Hell, there has been at least one case of players choices mattering in STO.

Remember that one patrol mission where you fly around Deferi space and encounter a Breen patrol, stop them and check them for anything illegal, discover some Deferi passengers and manage to get them to relinquish them?

After that you could then either just walk away from it or prompt the Breen into attacking you.

After that little fight, you could either leave again or wait for Breen reinforcements and defeat them.

I know that's not much, and i know that Cryptic cant code nor write separate story lines for characters who chose to either save or eradicate them.

Probably never, but wouldn't it be nice if, IF they ever implemented one, that if you went by paragon options, your character would end up being aligned with the Federation, Romulan Republic or the Klingon empire.

And as a renegade, you would be aligned with the Terran empire, Romulan empire or some sub faction of Klingon empire that wants to make the empire magnificent again, to bring more glorious warfare, instead of letting the warriors wither away on a seemingly endless era of peace brought by the dogs in the high council.

The problem is, as well as the reason for my having massive amounts of fleet credits, is that my fleet is kinda shit/slow to build up and it will take ages for them to get the stuff together.

To the main base I donated somewhere around 1.5 million, and that has me in the top ten, for instance.

Oh well, guess I'll just sit on my points.

Or grind some EC. A rom boff with the right stuff turns up as 8000000, which is pretty fucking steep for what it is.

I know about beams in particular, but why on an escort with only 7 weapon slots? You'd get more damage out of 8 on a cruiser, and its not like you need an escort's speed and turn radius for broadsiding. You get a much smaller shield bonus on an escort too

 No.16469

It doesn't obviously mean you're metagaming. That's the faulty assumption you've made because you can't take a step out of your reddit tier "le theorycrafting" mentality. Escorts are fun to fly and beams just werk.

 No.16475

>>16468

This is why escorts or escort-like setups aren't at the top of the deeps charts, right?

Oh, wait, they are.

With an escort you have a lot more room for attack patterns and the like. Also, even broadsiding beams only gives you a 70-degree arc on either side with all beams; a DBB/omni build will get you full coverage at 90 degrees up front, and escorts get the best of that, since front arc is the hardest to use (and you don't waste a slot in the back like if you used cruisers).

 No.16476

How much do you want to bet they get rid of marauding missions next season and invalidate all the Rom/KDF characters I just made?

 No.16477

>>16473

Indeed. The short fire cycle of a cannon doesn't easily allow overcapping, which gives beams a huge advantage. Additionally, even with a ton of turn, keeping stuff in a cannon's arc is pretty hard if the target can turn at all. Oh, and FAW>CSV, since CSV bases its arc around the target, not around your guns' firing arcs.

Hell, they're probably the ones that let her go. She's been nothing but helpful, at least to the long-term health of the Federation. Sure, she accidentally Romulus, but that led directly to the probable death of the Empire, and the rise of the friendly Republic. It also cemented Fed/Klink relations like never before, leading to the eventual klink joining the Federation. and then when Kagran decided to zergrush a sphere, it seems like everybody got wiped out except Paris and PLAYER CHARACTER. obviously the flagships, the Defiant, the Chimera, etc. were either not there or got away, but that was a lot of lost ships. plus all the wrecked ships in Midnight.

C-store T5/T5u are rare

cooldown depends on tier. a T'liss has 10 minutes, everything else I actually have right now is 20h 50min, or 1 day and 12 hours for T6. I'm not seeing any kind of "pay dil to send ships out again" option, and the cooldown doesn't seem to care how long the mission is or what the results are.

pretty sure a card for a given ship is going to always have the same ability.

>Bort said that the lower-tier ships have better chances at better abilitiess; what did he mean by that?

I'm not sure how much of this is finished and how much is subject to change, but it seems like T1 ships like the T'liss and some K-BoP give double something in the rewards. some lower-tier ships reduce the cooldown/maintenence.

hard to say since I don't have that many lower-tier ships around. although on tribble I can just dismiss ships willy-nilly and buy ships for dil.

not entirely sure how events work, but I seem to have won two (one-time use?) T6 ships for critting something.

TTW isnt that interesting except for the disable subsystem

if theres a new hangar pet with transpasic it will be interesting for the further possibly stacked shield debuff

its science focused? im mildly interested now, but without any new pet it will probably sucks, ever since dyson sphere fighters have been pretty bad, shuttles were the only useful pets and frigates would misuse the trait, but would be the ideal on a fed ship that has none at all.

>>16731

 No.16733

>>16732

you realize transport warhead already completely ignores shields to start with, right? making them transphasic won't make them ignore negative shields

it would be better on high alpha torpedoes such as quantum or tricobalt (do any hangar pets have tricobalt torpedoes though? I know of some that have tricobalt mines), to get the most of a limited cooldown. larger torpedoes would knock a subsystem offline for a longer period too, and would be a pretty much guaranteed chance too with enough fighters teleporting a warhead

tricobalt would means the projectile isnt destructible anymore, it could be really good

"gold foiled" Enterprise is probably what you get when you reach tier 10 in the Federation campaign. I don't even want to think about the maintenance time on a flagship. probably a week.

these were just mission rewards, which…. well, obviously I can't check right now, but off the top of my head they were both T6 ships. I think one was a pilot ship and the other might've been a command ship.

if you consider the maintenance time on a T6 ship, which as far as I can tell doesn't care whether it's a 15 minute mission or a 20 hour one, one-time-use ships are going to be extremely valuable.

and if I got two of them off a crit at T0 in a campaign, I wouldn't be surprised if ships are the prisoners and colonists of the admiralty system. (although you can get prisoner and colonist doffs from admiralty missions too).

for some reason its just the fleet version that says it can use the andromeda costume parts. the adromeda console should technically work on it too

MACO does better in the long run than Borg due to the better QSD speeds.

I can't think of what would be thematically appropriate, since they had the Ambassador/whateverthefuck KDF ship for Temporal Ambassador, the Dyson ships for the Sphere, and the corpse thief star destroyer for Delta Rising.

New Dawn seems to be heavily Temporal Cold War themed, but pretty much everything from Enterprise is already a lockbox ship.
