Flight Vidya

Don't have much of a catalog yet but here is some choices.

https://ysflight.org/ - Flight sim made by an autistic Nip for toasters when he was at college busy studying hentai.

https://home.flightgear.org/ - Open Source flight sim for when you want to be truly autistic and recreate the flight plan.

https://www.myabandonware.com/browse/theme/flight-l/ - Nothing specific but if you can get any of this shit to work please shitpost about it.

Is there a game where you have to plan and execute 9/11-tier false flags?

Like using Mossad/CIA to scout out potential terrorists, goad them into performing terrorist attacks years beforehand to set up a framework, arrange insurance contracts, plan the media extravaganza and then execute the false flag while making sure the shaped charges detonate on the right time&rythm so TV viewers don't grow suspicious?

Been playing Frontier Pilot Simulator. It's a weird little game. Quite good flight dynamics though. You fly a future VTOL around to different colony bases doing cargo and passenger work. There's not much to it right now aside from truckin, but they are at least working on a cockpit view.

Is it like comfy space trucking?

cdf62e  No.85538

>>85524

It's comfy alien planet colony trucking. It's not comfy in like the X or E:D sense of being in cockpit, since it's 3rd person only right now, but you just go from base to base picking up cargo, making sure you have enough thrust to pick it up, taking off maybe in stormy and windy conditions, avoiding updrafts from volcanic fissures and the ash that can damage your engines and bring you down. It's got a really interesting wind engine, I'll get some screenshots of it.

It's unpolished, early access, and third person only at the moment, but it's actually got some promise as a comfy scifi VTOL trucking game.

Little landing platform where you get cargo loaded and recharge your battery; Pic of the spaceport dock and station below; Hangar where you can buy upgrades and new ships (I haven't tried any others yet, but I think some transition from VTOL to normal flight); little starting island; big island with lots of stuff that apparently runs like shit.

It looks like a PS3 game and kind of feels like one, but they've put a lot of effort into the flight model, weight, and thermodynamics simulation.

Here is the live wind map that you can pull up in flight. The arrows move around with the wind. It's pretty neat, helps a little for when you're in IFR conditions and need to see if there's maybe a mountain updraft ahead of you.

DCS is fucking retarded and I can't mousebind anything. Both of my PS3 controllers are fucked so I can't even use that.

Going easy on the throttle and using the mouse actually works though, my takeoff chance went from 0% to about 40%.

I didn't record the first attempt but I almost managed to land through the runway before exploding.

On this attempt the fucking plane broke midair after a sharp turn and the attempted landing wasn't as smooth as the first.

Still, this shit is a pain in the ass to fly. The Su-25 turned like a brick, but at least it could fly straight.

Try with auto rudder/takeoff assistance under special options. Like anon above said, advance the throttle slowly to avoid spinning. Some other tips:

>Spin the canopy handle and some other controls with mousewheel (or lctrl/lshift+c canopy hotkey)

>Cycle controls backwards with rmb (e.g. mixture so it doesn't skip to rich)

>Pushing the stick forward unlocks the tailwheel which will make you spin before it can lift off the ground if you're at low speed

>Parking brake is not an on/off toggle so hold w before engaging or you'll roll

This is actually true, normally you always fully throttle up to gain speed, however it might be the case of being a small military aircraft it has a very high trust to weight ratio, and the lack of proper controls as well

Total Air War is a pretty old flight sim from the 90's. It's a fairly good game with a lot of mission variation and replayability. The only problem I have with it is that you are cucked into using the F-22. See if you could pilot more than one plane it would be great.

That said the best part of it is the AWACs simulation aspect to it. It's quite in depth and a fair outline of how to go about running an airborne battlefield. Quite a few NATO Chair Forces used it for training purposes cause it was that good and easy to use

They added joystick support so I gave this session a shot with the T16000M HOTAS. Joystick response is pretty good actually, and the HOTAS makes throttle management much easier than it is with the gamepad. That said, it does make camera control a bit harder since the camera kind of does what the fuck it wants a lot of the time.

Performance is marginally better, but not massively. I was getting 30-40 frames on both the small island and the large island on medium settings. It seems the bottleneck is GPU, I'd bet it's calculating physics on it, since my RAM and CPU were both cool as a cucumber with under 50% utilization. I may be able to change my Nvidia settings for PhysX calculation to improve this, but I didn't try.

The good news is the big island doesn't run terribly. My god, is it a bitch to fly in though. Very rough terrain and lots more space between stations. The stock Ox ship will barely get from A to B on a full charge, so make sure you get upgrades ASAP. It also barely made it to the big island. I crashed at my destination and luckily respawned on the mainland. The plane mode of the Ox is pretty cool and switching between the two modes is easy. I'm surprised at how fucking TOSSED this thing gets by turbulence though, wow.

Getting to the big island and around on it is very challenging due to 2.5km cliffs and whatnot. You can climb above the cloud layer for less turbulence and air resistance, which is nice, but there is also a dynamic zone of emission at around 3km altitude, so if you go too high it will knock out your guidance and you'll be flying blind.

All in all, it's not massively improved from launch, but perhaps the cockpit update will add a new experience to the game and also clear up this god awful HUD. I'll chime back when that hits.

I want to get into BMS. I have a Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS. Problem is I have very limited knowledge about flying. Where should I start?

Also, am I the only one that thinks that the DualShock 4 would be PERFECT for flight sims? I keep thinking about it'd be set up:

>left stick for pitch and roll

>right stick for throttle

>triggers for yaw

>gyro for camera

>touchpad for instrument panel

The touchpad is the biggest gimmick of this generation and it really doesn't have to be. The reticle moves on screen with your finger so you can click on buttons individually.

>face buttons/d pad could be used for macros/fixed camera

What I mean by fixed camera is, if you don't want to use the gyroscope, that the camera would be fixed forward, and holding a direction would quickly rotate it 90 degrees. Release it, and the camera returns to it's front-facing orientation.

>shoulder buttons for weapons

It's boggles my mind that developers have completely ignored the touchpad and completely forget about the gyroscope in every game ever, which frees up an analog stick. Then you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on sticks, throttles, and IR tracking.

cdf62e  No.111491

>>111486

I know people have used controllers for stuff that have less complexity like DCS Flaming Cliffs planes or something. You certainly don't get the fine control that you do with HOTAS, but it's certainly more serviceable than mouse and keyboard. a big issue would be doing the Heads-Down stuff in your cabin, where you may have to get closer to knobs and manipulate them for something.

To answer your first question, you probably shouldn't start with BMS, in my opinion. If you want to do shooty bang and your computer is decent, get the free version of DCS and learn the Su-25T first. The tutorials and setup for DCS are much more forgiving and will let you get flying independently faster, taking you through the basics and onto weapons employment. BMS tutorials only exist in text and the setup takes a bit longer.

I have the T16000M as well and the options you have for camera on that with the analog stick definitely help out.

52d8fb  No.111495

>>111491

Honestly, I'm not so interested in the dogfighting part as I am in the flight. I want to learn what everything does and how to use it all.

cdf62e  No.111498

>>111495

Well if you're into the actual study part of the simulation you've got lots of options in civ sims or DCS and BMS. I'd say BMS is probably more for if you want to simulate an air war though. The F-16 is interesting to learn for a little bit, but BMS itself is not a good starting point into flight simming in general. X-plane is a fine start if you want to start from the beginning and then find a study-level civ plane to fly.

Otherwise if you want to fly the milshit, I'd definitely advise to do your rounds with the DCS Su-25T and the TF-51 until you have a grasp on the simpler stuff, then give BMS a shot once you've got your bearings, or decide to buy one of the study-level DCS planes.

Maybe someone else has better ideas, but I've only been doing it for about a year myself, and with the same HOTAS, so this is from my experience.

I feel like Flightfags suffer the same as racing fags in that there is only really Simautism and no real lite games, even arcadeshit is few and far between unless you suffer F2P shit which is no fun allowed.

Now I don't want a full sim autism game myself but I do want to see a game that answers the age old question of what it would be like to strap a bayonet to the front of your plane and perform a 6G turn with a sandnigger impaled on your nose?

Well it certainly would be interesting to see what the handling of a plane would be like with the Taliban stuck to the front of your plane. The real trick would be making the fucker stay on unless you use super glue or duct tape I guess. Would he be dead or alive at the time of impalement?

>there is only really Simautism and no real lite games

There's YSFlight and Ace Combat. You can also tune level of simulation in IL-2 1946 so I guess it counts as well.

>perform a 6G turn with a sandnigger impaled on your nose

It would be extremely painful.

395c81  No.120707

>>120277

You'd have to pre impale him, trying it on the fly would just result in a mess. Then you'd need to make sure bits didn't end up going through your air intakes. The whole scenario just doesn;t lend itself to aviation, I'd try a tank sim for this kind of thing unless you are prepared to fly rotary wing.

But fuck that, helicopters are tools of the devil. If you fuck with helicopters you really need to ask yourself what you're doing with your life.

Aside from some RIO stuff and LANTIRN, it's quite easy to pilot. It's very analog and simple for the pilot. Landing is at about double the AOA in comparison to the Hornet, and is quite difficult to get a feel for, but the Direct Lift Control helps a lot once you get AOA dialed. Startup takes like 2mins if you ignore the testing parts, and weapons employment is about as simple as the Su-25.

>>136140

Fixing the CoT would require a new, bigger landing gear so the engines can be mounted farther back and below the wings, something Boeing is too jewish to do in CY+4.

As for the MCAS it should have full access to the elevator controls and continuously calculate safe elevator deflection limits according to its sensor readouts.

When the Pilot is about to exceed those the MCAS would simply prevent the elevator from being moved beyond limits while throwing warnings in the cockpit.

This is what Airbus does in all of its aircraft.
