Just remember, space is the spookiest of places.

Now that is out the way time to wet your appetite for some space vidya.

I can humbly recommend for your pleasure a series of vintage free games; Oolite, Pioneer, or Vega Strike. If sir is in for something more autismal there is always Aurora 4x. Of course this does not restrict sir's menu and they are free to propose what would satiate their appetitie.

Yeah, that's how games work.

>choosing whichever flavor of autism you like best

The feature wasn't implemented as well as this. The base building ties into the economy well, at least from what the dev has been telling us. Tell me, what other mod has a vastly different base building mechanic that can compare to what's coming? I'm genuinely curious as I haven't touched this thing in half a year.

The only thing that gives you bases in starsector modwise that I know of is nexeralin. Its a bit more mount a blade in space but not quite what the base update is going to be. Still good though.

I know right? That's a good way to get your project killed. Why people do this in the age of the internet, I'll never know. Then again, maybe the dev (supposedly made by just one dude) outsourced the cinematic from some other ruskie who didn't give a fuck.

It's just another blocky game. They are all fairly crap, and I say that despite personally liking Empyrion. It's a bad direction for any dev to go in. I'd rather have a handful of well-designed ships than a dynamic infinite series of shit ones (and even if they look cool, the way voxel mechanics are used in combat will inevitably render the ships crap anyways). Even the mechs and ringworlds suffer from the core game design.

Ah yes, a game it certainly is. How I fondly remember playing and rigorously enjoying that game, oh how fun it was. Yes, I do recall quite well the details of that game, which I did just have so much glee playing. What a great game, I could never forget anything about that game. I would love to share it with everybody, for how good that game was will never slip my train of thought. Truly, every second of the day is spent repeating the joy-filled moments I had playing that game, an experience parallel to nothing. Forever and always, that game will be in the forefront of the minds of my children and their children, for I shall show them that game as early as possible so they avoid any sense of depression or sadness for the rest of their life. All due to that game. A game which I am rather certain would be labeled a true masterpiece by all of humanity. I fondly remember clicking buttons, as well as keys, when playing it. Colors indeed as well, there were quite a nice variety of colors. I would be surprised if anyone did not know the name of that game, or all the exact details related to it. If they didn't, they would surely be shunned by all of society. I would take part in the lynching of anyone who did not know the name of that game gleefully and wholeheartedly. What a great game.

I've got a few bits and bobs from the real ISS project around the house. The bolts they use for spacewalks are really fun to play around with; they actually have this built in locking/unlocking mechanism that doesn't require any screw rotation. The string (yes, they invented their own string) holds up great outdoors, too, being ultra-UV resistant and all that. Then there's the useless hunks of radiator metal that just take up space.

>Xtended had deployable gateships, you might be better off porting those to LU tbh.

It will be faster just to write two lines of code per one gate. Especially when I wanted to make only 6-7 gates. Besides I wanted to work in 3D environment just to see how it looks like.

<o t="18" s="3" x="13860000" y="-2275000" z="-8225000" gid="3" gx="1" gy="0" gtid="2" a="49152" b="4096" g="3072"/>

t="18" is gate object

x, y, z are object coordinates.

gid, gtid are gate id, describes gate direction in sector map and allows to use jumpdrive for these gates.

gx, gy - these show to which sector gate leads to

a, b, g - these describe object size and direction

Probably mapping services cartels give free hammerhead missiles to anybody who tries to sell too many sector maps at once.

Sometimes Mapping services sell local sector maps, but they don't show up often and when they show up in systems with asteroids they just sell asteroid yields info.

Besides LU vanilla map isn't that big compared to LxXRM with all extra sectors from 3 different map mods.

>Shouldn't this be websearch-tier information to begin with?

While I couldn't find the specific spacewalking bolt I was talking about earlier, this one's also for spacewalking. It doesn't have the cool locking mechanism, but you can see how the bolts are held onto the part so they don't float off. Not sure exactly what this thing was for, but I think you attach it to a rail or put the bolts into holes around the ISS exterior, and clip stuff onto that upper hole.

<Pics 2 and 3

Boring shit that I don't remember. These should be from the radiator or solar power sections of the station (or, would be if they got used).

<Pic 4

This is a roll of mylar from the testing phase of the Lithium Ion Battery boxes that just got sent up a few weeks ago. Another guy on the team was so stubborn about using his (shitty) design choice that they ditched this roll, so it ended up here.

Fun fact: in early testing the batteries "failed inward," firing a stream of superheated plasma into the other batteries and would cause a chain reaction explosion. They fixed that, obviously.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything from the Curiosity Rover RTG project. The design requirement for that was to last only 5 years (I think), but the RTG can go for 17 years really. Unfortunately, the company in charge of the rover wheels decided to cheap out with hard plastic (yes really) rather than, you know, aluminum or literally anything else. I called that shit out, but now we've got a rover with friggin' laser beams that can keep going for triple it's intended lifespan, with wheels that are already full of holes. I hate people who cheap out.

it's legitimately just world of tanks with space ships. so you'd think it'd actually be world of battleships but actually how you fire your weapons is as simple as world of tank is but I feel it's alot more simpler. like for example the cruiser that's just a rail gun with a engine attached to it. you can fire that thing at targets practically to the side of you without having to position your self for it. it's rightly bad.

the game seems to be these giant space ships on tiny maps and no real depth to it other then having a bunch of repair ships spider tanking. also "new" ships in your tech tree is just the same ship but with added shit you can take off and stick onto your older ships.

if this shit had legend of the galactic heroes tier gameplay or even some level of realism and not some stupid power fantasy shit it seems to be. then this would have been really nice.

973ecd  No.91019

oh another thing. space ships have health bars you chew through and it doesn't matter where you hit them. it all does the same damage to that health bar and there's no crippling engines or removing the command bridge what have you, just a health bar and a shield that doesn't actually matter because it doesn't actually block much till it's gone.

so your positioning literally doesn't matter. it's all down to the map and no real skill.

Here's the intel screen right now. I've killed all Persean League, Pirate (official colonies), Hegemony, and most idependent worlds. You can see that there are no more notifications from the Persean League or Hegemony. They ded. They send no invasions, they're just fucking GONE.

It gets financially scary as you progress with the genocide. You see, even though you might be at war with a faction, your colonies still export to their planets; war only creates an accessibility debuff. The result is that, by killing enemy worlds, you're shooting your own economy in the foot. The only way to counteract this is to create more or bigger colonies, to create more demand that your factories can sell to.

Market share becomes meaningless past a certain point. Your concern at high market share is keeping "Global Market Value" up. Destroying demand (other colonies) removes some global market value. Food used to have somewhere in the $200000 range, but now it's in the 60's, therefore, having 30% of the "normal" food market nets the same income as 100% of the "post genocide" food market.

It's all very tricky and I'm glad that the path of conquest actually has some significant mechanical challenges.

I should also point out that killing enemy planets reduces the "hostility" debuff. Establishing new colonies near each other reduces, and can even reverse, the "isolation" debuff, even going so far as to make the few remaining core worlds considered "isolated" if you kill enough.

You can literally remold the center of the galaxy!

The last Station, Nova Maxios, had a CRAZY amount of activity around it. Every scavenger or mercenary fleet in the game, and a fuckton of pirates just E-burning around in circles. I managed to slip in during a lull and nuke it.

Not only have I killed every civilization, I'm still turning a profit! A modest one, sure, but you should've seen the TT colonies each losing $200k/month each.

Pirate raids have escalated SEVERELY. I think they pick a system at random to attack, which is now guaranteed to be me every time. Therefore, I have to either constantly hunt every pirate base in the sector, or just eat the stability penalty (i took the penalty). Luddic cells are still a thing somehow. You can't kill the one little Church Temple station, but it doesn't count as a market, so it doesn't matter.

The tech mines are occasionally cranking out rare items, and the supply stores are high. I can try to settle the entire sector as I please now (with all Alpha AI cores, due to administrator limits). But the pirate armadas are still a huge issue, and the Remnant lurks in the deep.

It occurs to me that I didn't get many of the blueprints. Only Capital Ship I unlocked was the Legion. No phase ships, no Xyphos, no Hyperion; they're extinct now. I wonder if that means I've doomed the sector.

It's more like Mount and Blade from what I hear, but I never played M&B (or Distant Worlds, for that matter) so I can't say for sure. Most of the game is you personally flying your fleet through space, and specifically your flagship in battles. It gets away with the crazy lategame stuff by using some of the ncredibly good UI design, so that it all still plays well alongside your fleet stuff.

0727a7  No.96779

562 had it right, it's basically Mount & Blade but in space. Kingdom/colony management, global battles that you can choose to take part in, trading, butchering pirates/bandits for fun and profit, all that jazz. But it also has an exploration element that M&B, the setting being a distant part of the Milky Way that was being colonized by the Domain of Man before the gateway network it used to get around shut down in the middle of the colonization, which left a lot of rare tech lying around that was lost due to the ensuing chaos. So if you don't feel like doing any of the M&B stuff, you can just pump up a tanker and screw off to deep space to see what you find.

3 Apogees and a zillion Condors (plus other ships I salvaged during the Blitzkrieg). The Apogee has this neat special ability called "Active Flares" where it launches 6 missile seeking flares every 5 seconds, and the AI will spam the shit out of it in station battles because there's always missiles flying. Between flares and their 360 shield coverage, they can screen any minefield or bomber strikes on approach to the fortress. The big MIRV lancher is also good against large, slow moving targets and tends to wiggle it's way around partially deployed station shields. Longbow bombers and Tridents on the Condors as they're whats going to get through the station defenses.

Hedetz never made profit, though it could have if I had understood the mechanics better at the time. It used to be $22k/month in the hole, but it supplied its sister colony, New Odin (also size 9), with the materials to have $600k/month profit. See, production magnitude scales with population, so a size 9 mining colony will provide level 9 rare ores and a size 9 civilian colony will need more to function, which is impossible with only small mining colonies. Now that I have 100% market share, Hedetz and New Odin alone can supply every single colony in the galaxy, and I don't have to waste expenses on any other factories whatsoever (I still do food in case pirates come raiding).

Default Imperial profit: $285505

Profit -6 gamma cores: $303301

Removing gamma cores creates more demand (since all they do is reduce demand), thereby expanding the market. Even though the colony you remove the cores from makes less income, the others suddenly generate a few thousand more. For the begging frigates will suffice, phase ones are pretty good since they dont have shields but instead they are supper agile and have "clock" ability

Its not important in the begging but when things start to get rolling its important to have ships good against enemy fighters/carriers, some serious firepower to overwhelm the shields and something to damage haul

But for starters try to get a 2nd frigate, then a third, than a tanker and frigater so you can move to small bounties hunting that bring 70k or so and then up to bigger ships and carriers

on one of those starter missions there is one about salvaging a refitting abandoned ships, I did end up getting a lot of them,

one big military one, another frigate to complement my initial one, tanker, carrier, there is one salvage ship from the start, and even a transport

thought it might be useful to get more of them and keep them stashed if I couldn't support them,

on another note, I really suck ass with these battles, takes a little too much coordination to get around with all the buzz, so is it normal to just auto-pilot?

Not the best idea since they are more often than not shit with lots of (D)ebuffs (damaged status) or with (P)irate status with also brings debuffs

You are much better off buying fresh pristine ships from market or black market (just pay attention to (D) and (P) beside ships)

Not always, i also use command points to send my frigates flanking or phase ships to harass enemy smaller ships while my destroyer(s) take the heat. I dont really like manually controlling the capital ship because it make me less focused on strategic aspect of the battle

Last time i kitted 4 enemy ships with my phase frigate (that eventually killed them off all by itself) while my cruiser did the heavy lifting of dueling with enemy cruiser

It wouldnt be possible if i didnt manually give the orders trough command points.

>Aren't shit ships super cheap though.

They arent really that cheap compared to normal ones and i dont find it wort to cut corners like that. A light carrier cost somewhere between 25k to 35k so the difference in price is negligible but difference in quality is observable

>A light carrier cost somewhere between 25k to 35k so the difference in price is negligible but difference in quality is observable

so here is the thing, between one salvaged damaged light carrier, it would cost approximately 25k to restore, about the same for one hammerhead, so I think its worth it if you managed to find salvageable ships, but not buying them

>I dont really like manually controlling the capital ship because it make me less focused on strategic aspect of the battle

I've been doing about a similar thing and have had good success with it

any tips to some strategies there? I also find that sending the faster frigates to smaller targets to be a good strat, however sometimes they tend to get mingled with bigger ships there, while on the other hand ganging up on a specific ship is quite strong move

492d34  No.97716

>>97712

Order avoid on biggest enemies until you thin their numbers. In big battles, order frigates to escort slower ships, so that the chance of them getting completely buttfucked is smaller.

oh shit, I remember this

before cracking, you have to try and input any code, even if it just denies you, and only then crack. It should work after that

It has awful, grindy research tree and all weapons on max level are the same.

Get most recent version of Balance Mod to avoid it and Fyron's Quadrant Mod 5 for more stellar bodies.

sounds like better scam chitizen

actually sound promising, though I never was able to get into X games, even though I got them all on sale to steam

specifically to X3 it somehow felt overwhelming the amount of controls you have and very little easing you into it

guess its about time for new thread, if you fags don't do it, I'll do it shortly,

I think good things to add to the OP would be permanent links to the games, for example the rutracker threads, since they always update it rather quickly

in case I am to do it, what would you want me to include there?
