I've played so many platformers and I've simply never encountered a better one than Cave Story.

I like La Mulana but it's pretty different from Cave Story.

N is nice too, just for the jumping physics.

I wouldn't say they're better (I don't play platformers much so what do I know?) but Iji and Shovel Knight are both good.

What version of of Cave Story is best? I'm not even sure what the 'original' release is.

There's a whole bunch here.

Then one that was pushed onto Steam by another guy (Is that even legal.)

Then Cave Story 3D, so much of game engine would have to have been changed to make this work. Is any of Pixels code even there any more?

Then a WiiWare one.

Some of them have a 'Curly Story mode', was that actually written bu Pixel or not?

Gonna have to try Cave Story while comparing it with Jazz Jackrabbit 2.

Actually, I'm feeling like just playing JJ2 for the next few days; thanks for making me crave my eternal 2D fix yet again OP.
