Has anyone else here played it? It's made by former Westwood folks, and you can definitely feel the influences from them when you play. I just wish I could do better when playing as the Humans. Any tips?

how balanced is it? Do you think it's balanced enough to be competetively viable? From my memory, Westwood always made fun games, but they weren't the most balanced.

I'm not the best judge for these kinds of things, but since the game has only come out recently people have been trying to find cheesy strategys as well as ways to counter. I think this period of time in an RTS' lifespan is the most exciting.

The Goo's gimmick is that they have no buildings to speak of. The closest thing they have to a structure is the mother goos, which are giant mobile blobs that can spawn smaller blobs which can morph into groups of units. Their economy is also compartmentalised into their mother goos, so attacking or killing a mother hampers the player's ability to create units. One of the early strategies was to try to quickly create at least 3 mother goos and consume the enemy base. A player that knows what they're doing and is on the correct map can do this within 3 minutes. In general the goo is a pain in the ass to fight because if you don't scout constantly and effectively you can't be sure if you've taken down all of the mothers. One of the campaign missions really hammers this into your skull, by telling you to clear the map, which is covered in goo units and mothers, and if you're playing incorrectly you're playing cat and mouse with the last mother who keeps splitting when you're not looking.

Hows the single player campaign> Is it up to par with the glory days of Westwood?

Is there a goo campaign?

The campaign is 15 missions long. It's split up evenly between the three factions but you cannot decide which faction you'd like to start playing as, since they're in chronological order.

The campaign feels more like a puzzle game compared to skirmish or multiplayer, as there's quite a lot of scripting involve. The campaign missions also double as a tutorial, so you're given optional tutorial messages to read whenever you build or train something for the first time. This doesn't mean that the campaign babies you. It trains you to keep on your toes, even on easy. My favourite campaign mission so far is the mission I mentioned in >>148 , because it really makes you aware of how dangerous the goo can be.

I found the missions where you play as the goo themselves to be most challenging, because they're the later missions in the campaign, and also because of the goo's different way of working compared to the other 2 factions.

I'm glad it launched so well. Westwood really deserves it.

Genuinely curious. How well did it sell? Do you have any figures?

it never hit top seller because it was overshadowed by Dying Light, but it's still up there around 2nd & 3rd on Steam after a few weeks. I think Word of Mouth from fans really helped since they barely did marketing.

Cool.

Have they worked out the balance and day one bugs by now? I'm going to buy it when it hits this point or it goes on sale, whichever is first.
