Pretty much my entire life, I scoffed at sports games for being casual shovelware trash, but lately I've been getting into watching real sports (handegg and netsphere) with my dad, and I was wondering if there's a sports game worth playing in those categories. I'm asking here because I can't trust game reviewers at all for this kinda thing.
Do I just get the latest shit or is there an objectively best game/year to play?

I think the last sports game I played and legitimately enjoyed (I'm not into sports) was on the Sega Genesis. You're probably going to want to stay away from EA's shovelware simulators, and go backwards in time.
Other than that I see people I know playing the NBA2K games on Steam.

Well, there's this game called supraball, which is is like a first person version of a soccer game, only you shoot the ball like a gun. It's been forever since I last played, so I don't know how active or friendly the community is. Attached is a video of some high skilled supraball playing.
