so in the news thread there was something about mindmaze

http://www.roadtovr.com/mindmaze-raises-8-5m-angel-funding-thought-powered-vr-headset/

so its seem to be neuroscientist putting their technology into the game. So….Sword art online called in their show that a fully immersive VR will exist by 2022. is this the beginning? does the fucking jap were right?

this thread isnt about an anime. this thread is about if neuroscientist will make us have a fully immersive VR by 2022 or so. will they? will moors law deliver by providing more tech opportunnity?

That's what MindLeap is supposed to be. Mind you right now it's just looks like a superior Emotiv, but it's the right direction for Fulldive VR.

This shit is making me to hype.
in the last 2 years we passed from a 720p screen that can move with your head to a huge industry full of people providing anything.

The biggest problem with Fulldive VR will be paralyzing you and sending the output directly to your brain. Compared to those two things, reading the brain is easy.

I somehow have hope that it will be possible in 7 years. There's always someone that discover something out of no where. A bit like graphene.

Believe me when i tell you drugs will come into play heavily before this is a thing

Maybe for medical and military VR, but consumer VR has to be non-invasive or society has to warm up to VR so much that it would be worth to stick things inside of you for Fulldive VR.

My bet for Fulldive VR is on nanobots, at least with them you will get the least invasive method with high results (nanobots with wifi sound interesting).

The paralyzing part should be easy enough, we just need to stimulate a sleep paralysis state somehow. Your body will be completely paralyzed and your mind is awake in vr. I'm no neuro technician, but that's how I'd assume they'd do it.

I'm lost to the whole "output to brain" part though.

That sounds about right, I think output could be solved with nanobots, there's no way sticking anything anywhere near or into your head would ever be allowed to become a consumer product.

sounds too dangerous to be worth it, I don't like the idea of prodding with the braining directly.

If something goes wrong in a VR HMD worst case scenario is getting motion sick or suffer a seizure if you are epileptic.

If something goes wrong with your organs in the worst case you will die or suffer a great deal of irreversible damage.

Worse yet if there are security vulnerabilities with such a method and someone manages to fuck around with your HMD, it's got bad news written all over it rather stick to the safer alternatives that don't directly manipulate your nervous system locally, rather stick to simulating a sense of presence through external means instead less that can go wrong that way.

There has been commercial headsets that provided a brain-computer interface for awhile now and there were even tech demos where they controlled video game characters with it. The issue is it isn't intuitive at all from what I've seen discussed about it and it doesn't get any easier with practice. Your brain simply wasn't designed to be used this way. The best you can expect for the next 10 years commercially isn't that impressive unless you're disabled. Go and read the 6th International Brain-Computer Interface Conference papers to see for yourself what is considered cutting edge at the moment:

https://bci.tugraz.at/conference/conference-2014

These new devices that measure brain activity that are coming out aren't going to be used for gaming or second life style MMOs any time soon outside of niche proof of concept demos. It'll be possible but not something that provides any benefit unless you're handicapped and can't use traditional control methods.

If there's one thing that has changed in the last 20 years it's that the neuroscience departments at many major universities have opened their doors to the public and are willing to help educate and interact with them on this topic. A pretty big change that was prompted after the MKULTRA victim testimonials in congress really tarnished their image. Everyone knows that horrific human experimentation is still going but at least these institutions have added in another worthless layer of bureaucracy and paperwork to make it appear as if they're doing something about it.

>there's no way sticking anything anywhere near or into your head would ever be allowed to become a consumer product.

i wouldn't be so sure about that, i mean who knew that people would be able to go out and buy a machine that's responsible for

thousands of deaths every year https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motor_vehicle_deaths_in_U.S._by_year

if the experience is worthwhile then people won't be concerned about the lengths you have to go through in order to experience it
