What are you current thoughts on it?
Would you recommend it to others?

I am currently suffering through kushieda's route in Toradora Portable. So far it's pretty good but I have only done Taiga's route. I probably wouldn't reccomend it to others because this VN falls behind compared to others. Also, Ami-chan is best girl.

I'm not reading anything and haven't for months. Sekai Project made me never want to read VNs again.
Could also be the fact that the last thing I read was getting around to Da Capo, and being that my autistic self refuses to drop a VN it was a fucking ordeal. 3/10, would not read.

>>169Many things. The translators they hire are sub-par, they cut out and alter content because they want to appeal to the steam market rather than to release a good product, they're basically strongarming fan TL groups out like CrunchyRoll did to anime sub groups.
Overall I think they're doing more harm to both the genre and the community than good, because they're doing exactly what other people are doing and were going to do at a comparable pace and to arguably higher quality, but they charge for it.

>>170Well shit. I wanted to buy Grisaia & even Planeterian to support devs but now I'm not too sure. Guess I'll pirate the two sequels for grisaia when they come, too bad there won't be any fansubs.
No.173
>>172Supporting devs is always a good pursuit, but don't support companies like Sekai who basically take a large chunk of the profit and who rely entirely on kickstarter to finance anything they do.
Support the devs by buying physical Japanese copies and patching them. More money goes to the devs and Japanese regional sales are all they take into account when considering something a success/failure anyway.
>too bad there won't be any fansubs. That's perhaps the most annoying part. Koestl would have translated the Grisaia sequels regardless, and he did a fan TL of the first. But Sekai bought his fansub, took down as many of the patch links as they could find and then plan to sell a pre-patched version on steam. It's just harmful to the community since fansubbers get strongarmed into either joining or dying.
No.174
>>173>Sekai bought his fansub, took down as many of the patch links as they could find and then plan to sell a pre-patched version on steamHoly shit that's terrible.
I was thinking of buying the original Japanese version too.
The grisaia sequels on vndb appear to be of 'medium' length which is shorter than the first game so I hope someone does a good fan translation of it, if Koestl can't/won't.

In particular the third isn't very interesting or engaging. The second is however definitely worth a read since it's good on its own, great in conjunction with the first.
>>175>Got any sites you recommend? When I was a younger lad and had little to no knowledge of what I was doing, I bought them from J-List and PlayAsia. Don't. Their prices are incredibly high for what isn't nearly as expensive.
What I do now is order them from Japanese retailers (either the company store or something like PaletWeb) and then go through a shipping middleman. Often far cheaper.
It's hard to help you out here because I risk it with my moderate amount of moonrune knowledge ordering off jap sites a lot. PaletWeb is an English site that was always good to me with a nice price, though it's a bitch of a site and not very user-friendly.

No.182
>>177Well first off,
>>181 has it right. The sequels aren't bad by any means, just dull in comparison to the original.
But on the subject, the problem is that by the end of the first game all the big twists have been revealed and most of the character's story has already been fleshed out. You're left with something that doesn't really add to the story in any meaningful way, and only serves to act somewhat as a fandisk. They attempt to build on an overarching story for the whole trilogy, but it's rather weak and at times feels forced.
Not bad by any means, just lacking in a lot of what was good about Kajitsu.

Currently reading Dies Irae.
It's something I've been building up to for a long time and was one of my goals when I started learning Japanese and so far it's living up to the hype. I'm really impressed with the way Masada's text reads here, it feels significantly more polished than Senshinkan and it strikes a chord with me in a lot of ways. Mercurius and Heydrich in particular have some absolutely incredible lines that just boggle my mind when I read them. Another thing that I feel that I should mention is how good the voice acting is, the entire cast does an outstanding job and it's seriously probably the best I've ever heard.
I'm only halfway through the second route so I can't speak on the plot too much but so far it's very interesting and seems to be building up to some really great stuff. I just hope it delivers. Will report back with more thoughts when I'm a bit farther.
Also in regards to all the talk about Grisaia, they've hired koestl (the original translator) to do the sequels. He's a great translator and really loves the games so it's nice to see him getting paid for the huge amount of work that goes into translating something as large in scale as the Grisaia series.
I feel that there's kind of a misconception about how difficult it actually is to translate eroge, it's really not like subbing anime. Not to diminish fansubbers' efforts at all, but the language in Grisaia is a *lot* more complicated than 99.9% of anime and its also extremely long. All together, the series ranks in at well over 6mb of text which is like, nearing a 1000 page novel.
About the 18+ material, I can pretty much guarantee a patch to add the sex scenes back in will come sooner rather than later, if SP doesn't release an 18+ version on their own. If need be I'll translate the h-scenes and have a patch thrown together, and then everyone can be happy.
No.211
>>201SP legally can't release the 18+ content since they're aiming for Steam as a sales platform. Valve doesn't do porn, and they don't allow games on Steam when companies release sexual content modifications officially.

>>146Monobeno is great, I hope you enjoy it. I found myself very attached to the characters and emotionally invested in a lot of scenes, which was somewhat surprising because I just went into it for the porn. There was plenty of that, but I was also quite pleased with everything else as well. Looking back, my favorite part was probably the atmosphere. It's so relaxing and the OST is so fitting for all the scenes that it makes for a really nice experience.
They also did a fantastic job of worldbuilding. It made the reader feel like they were actually in a sleepy, rural Japanese village full of youkai. And how can you not mention the production values, they were seriously top notch.
I really hope Lose announces a new project in 2015, I'm sure Monobeno basically printed money for them and I'd like to see where they go next.

Recomendations? themes I like:
Fantasy, fights, romance, multiple heroines, slice of life.
Of course I don't expect to find all of that in a VN, just suggesting themes.
Strong dislikes: enforced playing order. I would have totally hopped right onto Unlimited Blade Works if I had had the chance. Not a huge fan of gore, either, but I'll take if it comes with the package

Just finished Eroge!
I'm kinda new to VNs and it was really good. I made a thread on /v/ so I'll just crosspost some of my thoughts here.
Only problem is, after playing it all I want out of life is to be a 20 something japanese flunky working at a struggling eroge company with four women and teaching them about sex.
I liked the way it kinda catered to everyone with a whole bunch of different fetishes/activities.It kept the characters really fresh. I'd like to know more nukige that do stuff like this, but I haven't found much so far. Still looking though. If anyone can recommend something, I'd really appreciate it I also have a soft spot for femdom, especially if it's gentle/loving
The only complaint I have is that they had two tsunderes, which hurt the variety a bit. I feel like I would have enjoyed the big boobed blonde girl's path more if she was all "ara ara" and motherly. Black hair is enough tsun for me already. Or maybe make the company owner loli who is supposed to be 32 fucking lol an actual christmas cake. Oh well, still great.
Iori is absolutely the best girl and I would literally cut off my left arm if I could have her as a girlfriend.

I finished KKK (
https://vndb.org/v5844) over last weekend.
It was a pretty neat game once it was all said and done. It's relatively unorthodox compared to other eroge, in a lot of ways. For starters there are 4 protagonists with 4 heroines. The relationship statuses are pretty much set before the game. Each couple fits quite well and I had no complaints with this at all. Also in the sense that it's structure is pretty much completely backwards, but it all works out in the end. I don't really want to say anymore on that because it gets into spoiler territory, but it was a neat experience and it was all tied together very nicely.
The art in this game is absolutely amazing, it's probably the best I've seen in any eroge, and it makes reading this a real pleasure. It sucks you right into the 和風 atmosphere and doesn't ever dissapoint. Pic related.
The story is overall pretty insane with some very meta elements, especially in regards to the final boss who is pretty much the biggest piece of shit ever. I liked it quite a bit in the later parts due to it actually explaining a lot about the underlying system throughout the universe it's set in (Paradise Lost/Dies Irae/KKK) and elucidating on some points that I was somewhat confused on.
Overall I don't think it was anywhere near as good as it's predecessor (Dies Irae), but it still had a lot of really good moments with a few that were absolutely outstanding. The penultimate and final fights in particular delivered the hot blooded reality bending madness that I expect from Masada and that was a really nice payoff.
Definitely worth a read in my opinion.

>>503I fucking love the art in the screenshots I've seen. Can't wait until I can actually read it.
No.507
>>504Yeah the art is really something, I just cycle the CGs as wallpaper now.
For the record I found KKK to be much easier to read than Dies Irae. Not that's saying much since it's still very difficult and you have to read Dies first for the game to make any sense at all, but the people who go around posting screenshots of the 詠唱 making it out to be an indecipherable mess of Sanskrit and kanji spam are most certainly exaggerating it.
The final fight and some of the very end of Habaki/Rindou route are the only times that it ever really reached that same level of difficulty for me, come to think of it.

Reading Ever17 and Umineko. Umineko advances sloooooooooooooooooooooooowly. I'm currently on CH 4 beginning and it took me about a year.
No.532
>>519I know you're pretty far into it so you're probably committed at this point, but Umineko isn't worth it. It's just not a good VN. You'll come out of it with a bit of a bad taste in your mouth.
Why are you reading it if I may ask? I think there's definitely something out there more suitable to satisfy that craving that I could recommend.
No.537
Finished Gothic Delusion. The presentation in it is really impressive. It's entirely CGs, the website boasts that there are over 300 of them, and most of them have elements that change as you advance. Even the more static scenes usually have some sort of filter to add an atmospheric effect to the shot, like shadows cast from clouds on the moon drifting across the scene.
The quality of the art is a little off at times, but considering that a lot of the images only remain on screen for a short time before changing to a different one I can understand not wanting to put as much effort into things that aren't going to be seen for more than a few minutes. This is the first commercial work Cura did all the art for so that might have been a factor as well.
The biggest problem is ultimately that it isn't finished. It basically ends once things get started. As such it's difficult to really pin down what was done well and what wasn't in some regards because of that. It wouldn't feel fair to complain about some of the characters being largely useless, as they're clearly intended for use later in the plot, but currently some of them don't get to do a whole lot. The protag is a big ol' hetare up until near the end though. I'd still say he was a pretty alright protag in general, but maybe I'm just building up a resistance to hetare characters. Pacing is also weird at times. I can only assume Lose spent so much money on this (it's fully voiced and there are a pretty large number of characters) that they couldn't actually afford to finish it. Hopefully they can bring themselves to spend some of the boatloads of money I have to imagine Monobeno must have made on a conclusion.
Anyway, it's listed as only being eight hours long on EGS, but I can't read that fast so it ended up longer. It's still pretty short and I would definitely say worth it if only for the presentation and Lo. Lo is cute as heck. I do hope it gets finished one day, but considering it's been five years…

It was goodish. I couldn't really accept how the MC was such a soulless bastard, his story is never really developed beyond I was young and shit sucked. The story also felt really samey, like the filler in between the main events was pretty much copy pasted.
