For news and generally about any games you're looking forward to.

To start things off:

XBlaze is up for pre-order with new info and screenshots.
http://nichegamer.net/2015/02/xblaze-lost-memories-details-screenshots-pre-order-bonuses-and-release-date/

And I'm looking forward to the new UtaPri game because I'm a fag.

Welcome to /vn/, faggot.
I'm always looking forward to Miyako's route in Majikoi. …If it ever gets released…
The QC got 66% done with it and then "lost" his progress. I swear this route is cursed.

I'm glad I never play partial translations, otherwise, I would be moping around about Majikoi as well.

Anyways, Princess Evangile is coming out about a couple weeks after my birthday, so I preordered that. The demo was fun.

Probably the game I am most hyped for that will probably come out this year is Gahkthun. Euphoria is a close second.

It seems like Rance 5D and VI are still being translated by the resident translatorfags at 4chans /haniho/, which is exciting because Rance is a great serious and VI one of the greatest in the franchise, and those guys (Maria and Arunaru) always deliver.

 No.305

I left halfchan for that obvious reason, but it's nice to see /haniho/ chugging along.

Huh, considering he changed his Twitter avatar, I suppose Arunaru is doing Rance 6. I guess it's finally come full circle.

One week left, had it preordered since the end of January.

The artist is the same as Fraternite so I wonder if we're getting that some day.

/haniho/ was always a light in the darkness to me, that's the last place I left. Shame about Ludo though, RIP

 No.313

>>309
Ah well. I like to think that by triggering the creation of /haniho/, Ludo paved the way for the Rance games to be translated one way or another. I'm pretty sure that Rance 3 and 4 probably wouldn't have gotten translated otherwise.

Huh, Arunaru plans to finish Rance VI by the end of the year. He finished Kichikuou in a reasonable time frame; I'm pretty sure he'll pull it off. Remakes aside, that would leave 4 Rance games left to translate, including Rance X.

 No.315

>>313
Yeah Ludo held the torch up more than anything, he never did anything relevant, kek. But Arunaru (save for his tendency to get butthurt easily) and Maria are amazing translators, I still can't believe Kichikuou legitimately got translated, that is a legendary game in the eroge industry but also a game many probably thought would never get TL'd. I trust they will keep going and carry the western Rance community on their backs well.

I wish they would migrate and make a /haniho/ board or even chill with us though ;_; I tried to shill a bit but no dice, it's hard to get any remaining cuckchanners over here.

Oh, hey, I watched the NTY!! stream yesterday and it looks really fun. Translation seems good as well. Think Hiroshi's my favourite character so far.

 No.335

>>331
Same. They've got an otome game localisation in the works (OZMAFIA) and it would be great for them to expand the sorts of games they localise. There's a few fan translations for games but otherwise it's fairly difficult for non-Nip speakers to get their hands on good BL/otome VNs.

There was a rumour they attempted to get into the BL market with SPRAY's Gakuen Heaven but SPRAY turned them down, if that's true, they've been wanting to do this for a while. (I don't think this was confirmed so pinch of salt and all that.)

>>334
Hiroshi seems to be the most popular. I preferred Ryu but apparently I'm weak to male tsunderes.

 No.336

>>331
It won't sell well.

VNs are an incredibly niche market, with even the big name ones making only modest sales compared to other forms of media.
The niche for Official English Localizations are even smaller. The profit is very little even with big name stuff.
The niche for sexual VNs is only the tiniest bit smaller, but still smaller.
The niche for BL VNs is then smaller.

So an officially localized sexual BL VN? It's got a damn small niche and I can't see it being a big profit.

Gakuen Heaven isn't that great and probably would have bombed. I'm glad we're getting some quality titles at least (don't know about Ozamafia).

Ryu seems like an uptight bitch, I can't wait to mess with him.

It's good in a campy/cheesy sort of way (if that's your taste). It's apparently popular because it's getting a re-release.

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters (PS3/Vita) is being released in America today (Europe: 13th of March).

Game Summary:

>Become a ghost hunter and dive into the secret world of evil spirits to protect Tokyo!

>Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is a visual novel that puts players in the role of a high school student who newly transfers to Kurenai High School in Shinjuku. While touring the campus, our hapless protagonist and another student are attacked by an evil spirit. Thankfully, a pair of intrepid ghost hunters intervene just in time.

>In addition to an entertaining story with superb production values and an immersive, fleshed out world, Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters contains a strategic role-playing element in which players use their wits to defeat ghosts with all sorts of unique ghost-hunting items.

>The producer and character designer for Konami’s Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side and LovePlus dating simulators resigned from the company yesterday.

>“Now that I have thought about the possibilities, I believe I’ve made the best choice. I will continue making games that I hope will be worthy of your appreciation,” Akari Uchida, the senior producer, wrote about his choice, “So I’d be very grateful if you all continued to support me, and continue to offer critique. Your input is at the heart of my work.” He continued, “When I think back to everything I wanted to do, free of any restraints, I feel a sense of excitement and anxiety. I’d like to make something [new], so when that time comes, please lend me your strength. Let’s make a ruckus!”

>Mino Taro, the character designer, wrote on Twitter, “I have a lot of memories of and appreciation for all my work at Konami. However, in the midst of my career as a game creator, I found myself thinking and worrying about much. There were things I couldn’t do at Konami, challenges I couldn’t tackle while I was there, and I’ve come to my decision because I feel this is my last opportunity to do the things I haven’t been able to do with Konami.” Mino Taro states that he will henceforth work under the name Minoboshi Tarou.

This annoys me so much.
>These are the most requested VNs for us to translate!
>Oh look, it's a bunch of shit that already has translations!
>Maybe we'll translate them later and throw out cease-and-desist to anybody hosting the fan translation
Who is voting for F/SN? I've got to think it's just the anime-fags voting on this thing, seeing as how Fate gets an unworthy amount of attention from them and Majikoi is getting an upcoming anime.

Why do they not vote for shit that doesn't have a fucking translation yet? At least the Baldr series came 3rd, but still. Just can't fathom why somebody would willingly vote to have less VNs translated.

 No.534

>>530
One issue I've seen is that people simply don't know about untranslated VNs. Balder Sky and Flowers are exceptions, but Baldr Sky did have a TL project at one point and I have the feeling that the people who voted for Flowers are the same people that managed to get Lonely Yuri translated by making it win that DLsite contest.

 No.536

>>534
But even if you didn't know about any untranslated VNs, why would you vote to have them acquire the license to translate a VN you've already read?
The current patch isn't even bad like Clannads, though I still wouldn't read Clannad again even when Sekai brings it out because fuck those guys. The current F/SN patch is good, and translating it again does nothing at all.

It just confuses me. Who is voting for those things? It could only really be people who see F/SN and think "I liked that, I'll vote for it", completely missing the point of the poll.

 No.538

 No.539

>>536
>why would you pay for something you already read
Because fandom.
That aside, it's not too uncommon to have a "pirate first, pay for a reasonable price later" mentality. I do agree it defeats the point of the poll. I personally voted for things that MG's current partners have.

>it's not too uncommon to have a "pirate first, pay for a reasonable price later" mentality
The only issue I have is that if you're going to pay for a VN, why would you not buy an original Japanese copy? That's what I've always done, because at least that may have collectors value while an English copy would never be considered collectable.

I see where you're coming from with the fandom point, it's just annoying that there are that many people in the western VN scene who are utter plebs.

 No.543

>>542

>doesn't RenP'y exist anyway? How is this going to change anything?
RenPy is bad enough as is with the effect it has had on western VN development.
But this is even more fucking baseline and shitty than RenPy, and this one is gonna have STEAM APPEAL.

A tidal wave of shit is coming, and you must brace yourself lest you be washed away.

 No.555

>>553
I hear that but what I mean is, wouldn't people just use RenP'y as they are now?

What do Japanese devs use anyway? I know it probably depends, but generally.

 No.558

>>555
Onscripter, I think. Or maybe KiriKiri

 No.564

>>555
People who genuinely have an interest in Visual Novels but don't have the best coding ability will still use RenPy, that's a given.
But this appeals to the 10,000 or so people who bought Sakura Spirit. They practically never heard of RenPy and they're less interested in VNs with less skill at coding. People who were gonna use RenPy will still use it, but it will bring new people who will make shitty VNs, and then almost definitely try to sell them on Steam.

Jap devs usually use Onscripter like another anon said I believe. Of course that's usually smaller devs, the big devs sometimes have their own super special engines.

And that Korean VN conflicts me. On one hand it looks pretty decent and the artstyle is a nice upgrade. But on the other hand, I don't really see why a Kickstarter was necessary. I try to refrain from Kickstarted games on principle, but I might try this one out.

File: 1427248104506.jpg (1009.09 KB, 1704x1279, 1704:1279, arr rook same.jpg)

I can't get over how many RenPy games use this bland as hell text box. It's a primary visual element that is going to be on screen for the entire thing, at least try to do something with it. If there's a tool that allows people to put even less effort into things than the already simple RenPy engine requires I can't even imagine the sort of shit that will result.

 No.567

>>566
What the fuck is going on in the bottom left.

 No.568

>>566
The problem a lot of Western VNs have is that the people making them want to simply tell a story rather than make a VN.

The ones on the top left and right seem to be aiming to make an anime-book rather than a VN.
The one on the bottom left seems to not take itself seriously so I assume they didn't care.
And the one on the bottom right wants to be a choose your own adventure book, which a VN facilitates more easily than just plain text would.

Even those who want to make a VN but use that box seem to be forgetting about the 'V' element, and just want to make their vision of the 'N'. They think the 'V' is solely characters and backgrounds, and they completely neglect interface.

One of the most visually pleasing and most user-friendly VNs I've read was ImoPara, because everything looked nice. The interface was pleasing as well, every aspect had care taken with its design.

>I don't really see why a Kickstarter was necessary
I could see how some of the money was necessary for a translator but I don't know how much it would cost and how long the game is. I guess the rest is the usual 'if we had the money, we could spend more time on the game than other things' sort of thing.
I don't follow KS, so I don't know.

That's a point. The little money thing says the majority of it is going towards the translation, so since there's more stretch goals: money towards the VAs, money for the Japanese translator but I have no idea what the OST goal means. Assuming that's right and that's what's going to happen, the devs don't actually get that much after everything else gets spent.
