Rance 1 is pretty uneventful, and really outdated, but you meet important characters and stuff. It has a remake, 01, which is way better but untranslated.
Rance 2 is untranslated, but Rance 02, the remake, has a passable translation. Meet some more main characters in the series and it's pretty short so it's worth a playthrough.
Rance 3 is where it starts getting good, it's translated. Pretty fun plot and even the gameplay isn't terrible.
Rance 4 digresses a bit gameplay-wise but the plot is still good. Also translated
Kichikuou Rance is one of the greatest and a must-play. It was the result of the build-up and the final efforts of Alicesoft to save their company from death. Of course it was a resounding success and they're still an influential company today. Translated a year or so I believe (maybe months? time flies by).
Pretty sure the rest are still being translated by the /haniho/ community at 4chan. They have shit on lock for the most part.
