Volknet

TL;DR

Volknet grew out of a thread posted on /pol/ about setting up a separate Internet outside the control of governments & corporations. Archive: (https://archive.is/5vWap) It quickly evolved into the idea of setting up local meshnets, pirate boxes, packet radio, etc and arguing over how to connect them all together.

I liked the idea enough to make a board about it, but I knew that building a separate physical Internet was definitely the wrong place to start. It is the goal, but not the immediate means for reaching the goal. It's too ambitious and it would be stillborn from the get-go.

My idea is that we start by culturally appropriating the darknet. Any & all darknets: onions, i2p, freenet, etc. We do this by outright & un-apologetically pirating whatever content we want & cloning whatever websites we like from the regular Internet and copying it to our favorite darknets. I'm talking about content & websites sympathetic to the general culture of pol.

The idea is to draw more traffic to the darknet, which will attract more content creators to the darknet, until it becomes a self-sustaining culture. Overlapping with this goal, we develop our own separate crypto-economy amongst ourselves and use it as a way of funding our goal of a separate Internet.

At the moment I'm developing an imageboard eepsite as a place on the darknet where we can gather and coordinate.

Sucession from the Internet

Original Thread from pol

>Archived here: https://archive.is/5vWap

—————————————————————-

OK /pol/, bear with me on this, because it might sound kinda dumb. Just think about it.

We all know the internet is going tits up, everybody all over the world is controlling and regulating it to death. The wild west is dying, we are entering an internet era of forced political correctness and censorship. Why then, are we still using this internet?

Why haven't we begun to build our own?

Not some piggyback service like tor, where big brother watches you everywhere, but an entirely seperate entity, not connected to the current internet anywhere? Let me elaborate.

We start with offshore servers, running in international waters a la Sealand. We'd need a plethora of wealthy backers, but there are tons of rich people who dump cash on libertarian utopias all the time. This time however, we set up a heavily militarized navy society. Every citizen is there either to expand or protect the Island, and ultimately the seed servers for what I will refer to as the freenet (slavenet being used for our internet from now on). We'll slowly build up a country sized city on pylons in the ocean (preferably the Atlantic to protect against tsunamis) dedicated to running servers. While we are working on this stage, we assemble a team of the best software engineers in the world interested in a free internet to work from the ground up to build an internet completely unlike the slavenet. Something incompatible with how normal computers operate. I'm thinking also some way to piggyback the signal off decommissioned satellites, keep it low key.

Near the completion of it, we need to populate the world with auxillary servers. At no point should they be any less than a total of 50% decoy servers full of dummy information, to misinform foreign interests that may want to break in. Membership would be likely have to be paid, but open to anyone, to support the team of software engineers that would have to live full time among the servers, constantly making them more secure. It would ultimately also need to have one plug. One big cable that all the information would have to travel through, so if we detected an intrusion, the plug could be pulled and all the information could be kept safe. We could carefully filter anyones access to the server island via our navy (would all have to be well trained, every citizen), while simultaneously keeping the internet free and open for the truth to be out there, away from the censorship of big brother.

Of course, everyone involved would have to be willing to fight and die to defend that country. The entire world would be after it. The only feasible way of survival would be to force two options; leave us alone, or attack us, murder every last man and woman in the country, and have the rest of the world hate you for the war crimes and mass genocide you've committed. Eventually we could just do what Israel does and get nukes to leverage against anyone who hates us.

If we want freedom, we're going to have to fight for it, what say you /pol/?

Internet Secession Part 2

Sorry for the long silence. I've been quietly copying the contents of the original /pol/ thread from the archive over to this board, in case archive.today happens to go SJW and start deleting stuff. Plus it's a lot easier to follow the conversations (reply links don't work in the archived copy of a thread).

I'm going to post another Internet Secession thread to /pol/ late this month, and I have something specific that I want to talk about that just about anyone could get involved in. I'm hoping that thread number 2 will be just as lively as the first one was.

I won't talk about it now; I'll use it to kick off conversation on the thread.

But there are a few other things that I'd also like to see discussed:

- People who use encryption automatically draw attention to themselves. Therefore we need to start using encryption by default, for everyone. How do we put pressure on browser devs, email providers, hosting providers, ISPs, major websites like Amazon, etc to use encryption as a default setting in their normal, everyday functionality?

- Who wants to start an official manifesto?

- How do we pressure/incentivize major online stores to start accepting crypto currencies? (And NOT requiring personal information from their customers)

- Protecting children and fighting terrorism are the two main arguments for rolling back our privacy rights both online and everywhere else. How do we as citizens deal with these issues ourselves in order to negate the government's involvement as much as possible?

- How do we get municipalities and businesses to take down their cameras?

- Where can we get computer hardware that we can trust? Currently, the firmware of many popular harddrives can be reflashed by the NSA in order to behave like spyware, and there is no way to remove it. Vendors are working with the government to compromise our privacy so we need to find vendors that we can trust.

- How do we put a stop to RFID, the "Internet of Things" and effectively boycott the companies to put RFIDs into their products?

What is wrong with Freenet

Why is there a need for a meshnet when Freenet can do much the same using the current internet infrastructure?

Something to look into?

Found this on >>>/cyber/39540

"Just found out that fully P2P imageboard already exist. What a great time to be alive.

Get ZeroNet:

https://zeronet.io/

Yes, you can run it through Tor.

And then go to:

http://127.0.0.1:43110/0chan.bit

Or you can check it right now through web-ZeroNet gateway:

https://zeronet.classcoder.com/0chan.bit

That means you can have fully distributed imageboard that can't be censored by anybody.

I don't know about you, but i'm amazed that it really works."

Agitation Materials

Looking for material about Internet censorship & surveillance that's designed to really piss people off. We don't want people feeling hopeless, we want people mad.

Infrastructure: my suggestions

1. CJDNS over Wi-fi

2. Encrypted packet radio over non amateur HF/VHF frequencies

3. CJDNS over IP

And in my fantasy realm:

Encrypted Maser

Power Grid?

So how hard would it be to co opt the power grid?

Power grid broad band is current technology, and since our gov refuses to use it, why couldn't we?

What would it take? Would we need the power companies on board? To me it seems a lot more realistic than … creating our own sealand and navy…

Thoughts?

Our Own Hardware

If there's one vital thing we eventually need, it's the ability to build our own hardware. The NSA can now reflash the firmware of your machine and turn it into spyware. Even reformatting your HDD can't get rid of it.

I asked around on /b/ and /tech/ about the idea of open source hardware; people designing and building their own custom computer hardware and sharing the designs just like they do with open source software.

Well….options are limited but they exist. These are some cross-posts from the respective threads that I started on the subject. But feel free to join in.

Our Female Avatar

These are archived comments about our female avatar, Embla, the first woman of Norse mythology. I've laid out the specific details of Embla's appearance already. I'll leave her personality to evolve with the culture of Volknet.

I'm looking for artists to interpret her based on the description in the following posts. Or recommendations of some good artists that could do commission work.

——————————————————–

One of the main concepts I've been pitching over on our /pol/ thread is the importance of representing ourselves with an avatar. I've proposed having both a male and female avatar. Gamergate has /v/ and Vivian, the USA has Uncle Sam & Columbia, we need something like that. A male-female duo is rich in all kinds of possible symbolism.

I've suggested Askr & Embla, the first male & female of Norse mythology, as our avatars, the Adam & Eve of our volk.

My inspiration for Embla's appearance is based loosely on the album cover drawing in the attached pic, of the girl with two different hair colors. But instead of stopping at just two hair colors, I thought she could represent all the physical variety within our race. Her hair would be brown, black, blonde and red. Her eyes would be blue, brown, gray and green. Finally she would have freckles, another distinctly Caucasian feature. She would be dressed in some kind of traditional European garb or like a Druidic priestess.

One anon has already done a mockup >>53 but she needs to have ALL of the physical features of Caucasians in order to represent us.

I welcome any drawfags who would like to do their own interpretation of her.

The idea is to memify her, to give her such a distinct personality and appearance that she will be copied and re-interpreted by other artists, just as the Vivian James avatar is. People will make comics, fan-fiction and even r34 drawings, doesn't matter. It all spreads the meme and by extension spreads the idea she represents.

Our Male Avatar

For discussion of the male half of our avatar duo, Askr, the first male human in Norse mythology. How should he look? What is his personality?

I'm migrating over some archived comments from the original pol thread so we can continue the conversation here.

———————————————————————

Our male avatar presents a challenge. There is already a decidedly volkisch male avatar: Iron Pill Man. We can't make Askr, the husband of Embla, into a simple knock-off of Iron Pill. He has to be qualitatively distinct, be completely his own person, but be volkisch at the same time.

I'm thinking of having Askr portrayed as a sigma male. He's scruffier, he has stubble, he has scars, he's an outsider. "Outsider" perfectly personifies what we are trying to build.

He should NOT be the dark, silent brooding figure though, like Batman or like Shadow from Final Fantasy 6. He needs a sociable personality like Han Solo or Tyler Durden, even if he's abrasive sometimes. His volkisch-ness would be less intellectual.

Iron Pill likes to read books by Julius Evola. Askr, the first human, lives it in a more instinctive, non-verbalized way.

Iron Pill's relationship to his wife would probably be portrayed in an idealized way that emphasizes chivalry. Askr would more likely be portrayed as refusing to take any of Embla's shit, with crazy make-up sex afterwords, and then Embla walks around the house wearing his shirt. His rough masculinity frees her to be perfectly feminine.

He's a swashbuckler and a brawler who makes his own rules. But, like Tyler Durden, is still perfectly capable of self-discipline and goal-setting.

Mechanical Computing

Hey guys, I was just watching this and was wondering if there was any potential here. I know to build an entirely mechanical computer would be impractical and inefficient as hell, but what if we built some of our infrastructure mechanically? Wouldn't something mechanical and human operated be harder to watch by the NSA? I'm no engineer, but if someone out there could develop something I'm good with mechanical assembly (just bad at anything to do with electricity). Maybe some sort of code scrambler operated mechanically to acess the system, one that was built with specifically placed random numbers that a normal computer couldn't randomly guess, and could be swapped out upon compromise? I'm spitballing here, but anyone else inspired?

structure

So let's get this cleared up, how is this going to be structured?

I'm seeing a basic network of pirate box type things in tight areas, for individuals, tied to some sort of area base transmitter, that links to other local bases, that all link to some sort of district base, or "Capitol", who all… transmit through the aether? At least according to some guy in the OP… Realistically, i' d say through Radio or SATCOM. This seem good?
