One concern I had was that if we had the character visibly eating someone it'd turn off a lot of people. Which I know sounds stupid considering what the mascot is for, but if we made a great design and only subtly implied she was all about killing people in her stomach, it wouldn't alienate and skeeve people out as much.

Doesn't sound stupid at all. People can get very particular, in the initial pic leaving as much to imagination might be possible. A few bumps from inside a belly can imply they were taken in a few ways.

I see nothing to apologize for, especially because the discussion not once devolved into personal attacks.
I see attacks on the validity of the information, questioning the importance on doing it in the first place, even if a bit harshly it's should be expected by the OP to have people questioning them. Sometimes content should be reviewed as to where it belongs or no, rules need questioned, there are times to put anything under scrutiny, discussed, and evaluated. Even my actions.
