How to convert to webm/mp4

1- http://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/download.html

Freeware, portable, without ads or bloatware.

2- Select Profile:Custom, Format:MP4 or Webm(I rather mp4 because better quality per bitrate and FASTER conversion).

3- In Filters/Preview tab, crop the time you want, if the video is HD, don't pick more than 30s; if low quality, you can do 2 min or more, but try to get only the important parts.

4- In Audio tab, set Bitrate:128(or lower), codec AAC(not FAAC) or Vorbis if Webm.

5- In Video tab, set Rate Control Mode:2-pass average bitrate, Codec:VP8 if Webm, Codec:AVC/H.264 if Mp4. Now comes the fun part, setting the bitrate:

double-click in the video name to check the original bitrate, setting the original bitrate(or lower) is a good start point or:

300 kbps for webcam/xvideos, 500~1500 for 480p(DVD) things, 2000~3000 or more to HD.

If you want a 8MB file, the max size 8chan accepts, use the bitrate calculator, click in the small calc icon to the right and set to 7.5, this will automatically pick the optimum bitrate(only works after you cropped the time).

6- Click in Add to queue and Encode.

No, set the Mode:Copy in video and audio tabs and only cut the time. This is instantly, so you can do a lot of trial&error until find a size who is under 8MB.

MP4 is only a extension, the video have to be encoded in the format 8chan accepts.

Use the Mode:Copy in audio and video and crop half-sec of the end or beginning of the video.

For MP4, only AVC/H.264 with AAC. For webm, all of them.

Set Mode:Copy in video tab and convert only the audio to AAC, Bitrate:128 is actually overkill to AAC, to porn 64 is good enough, but better safe than sorry.

Yes, all the way better quality comparing the same filesize(which is a must in 8chan) and faster converting.

ANOTHER THINGS I FORGOT ABOUT COVERTING TO WEBM:

-Set the Quality to Good, "Real-Time" is slow as hell and "Fast" is bad.

-Set the bitrate and maximum bitrate to the same number, because most of time it will use the max bitrate.

-Opus(audio codec) is prone to error, use Vorbis. VP9 is impossibly slow.

How do I stop being a lazyfuck and find source by my own?

1- Google the file name

Hard as that.

If the name is not already the title of the thing, most of time you will find another chan thread where it have the source.

Google the watermarks in the video also helps.

2- Reverse image search

Download the video. "capture snapshot" or "capture image"(in VLC:video>snapshot, in MPC:File>Save Image), capture:

the very first frame, 2 frames between the 0s and 3s, a frame in the mid of vid, and a frame in the end.

Click in the camera and upload the frames. Most of time the first sec frames are the ones which will find the source. If desperate, capture more frames and keep trying.

3- Never works, but…

-Google the data of the video who appears next to the filename, ex:"1.09 MB, 640x480"(the double slashes help in the search), since most chans use the same way to display these data, you will find all chans where this file was posted.

-Download and look the video metadata(CTRL+J in VLC, Shift+F10 in MPC), some converters store the original name.

Ah yeah, I noticed that on /b/ and /wx/ - sometimes the mp4s will just throw back an error instead of playing, whereas I never have any problems getting webms to play. I use Firefox if that makes a difference.
