Most of us here are waifuing girls who are teenagers or in their early 20s, and quite alive. Some may prefer to keep their personal idea of who that person is in their minds, others may simply enjoy watching interviews, movies, music videos etc with this waifu and feel connected to the person they present there. Of course, it's impossible to fully know anyone, and there is inevitably a certain limit in how well one can really know about someone they've never met (given the majority of waifuists have never met their waifus or been in a relationship with them). However, none of this has to do with the person being dead or not actually alive.
Basically unless a guy tells me his waifu is Audrey Hepburn/Grace Kelly or a zombie girl, I wouldn't say they waifu the dead.
