It's not possible for a computer with a 32-bit OS to be upgraded to a 64-bit OS (without a fresh start), right? :|
My tablet had a free upgrade to Windows 10. It's running a 64-bit processor (and 2gb of RAM) but the Windows 8 copy it comes with is 32-bit. If the upgrade process is taking too long, there's a button that takes me to the MS site to download the package for later. I copied it and opened it for my desktop. Naturally, I chose 32-bit.
Now, I went to Acer support cause I needed to download a certain driver. It let me choose my tablet's OS. The choices were "Windows 8 32-bit" and "Windows 10 64-bit". T_T
Though, Google's telling me nothing about Acer Iconia W4 running Windows 10-64 bit except for the support site result.

you can only upgrade to a similar or corresponding win 10 version, in your case I assume you had win 8 home 32 bit, then you can upgrade to win 10 home 32 bit.
I am going through something similar, I'm trying to install win 10 on an older iconia tab. but I think I fucked the license because I did a fresh install and didn't upgrade.
what you can do if you want 64 bit win 10 pro, is to pirate win 7 ultimate, fresh install, activate that and then upgrade to win 10 pro.
once the upgrade is activated you can fresh install again without a key.

I don't mind having only a 32-bit copy of Windows 10… especially since my tablet only has 2gb of RAM anyway. I'm just hoping that by not letting the tablet install all the way on its own instead of downloading the package for later (which Microsoft said I can do anyway), I didn't disturb some Windows 8 32-bit to Windows 10-64 bit conversion cause I, naturally, want to have the exact OS that was actually meant to be put in my device. I'm just hoping that the info on the support page is some sort of mistake.

it's easier if you just want to upgrade your current OS and it's possible it's just a typo but, why are you downloading from an acer site and not from microsoft.
if you reserved your upgrade you can just go to:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
and download the upgrade directly, you shouldn't have driver issues, win 8 and win 10 use the same drivers basically. if you still have doubts just google your tab model and see if someone else had issues.
I have a iconia w500 and the rotation sensor has a shitty driver that doesn't work on win 10 but it also didn't work on win 8 so I don't think you'd have the same problem.

I downloaded Windows 10 for my tablet ages ago, when it first came out. Since my internet's slow and it was taking long to download, I decided to go with the option given me which is to save the package for later (which I think gave me that link). I chose 32-bit and decided to download it on my desktop instead to transfer to my tablet later.
I went to the Acer site now cause ever since the last BIOS update, my touch screen has been acting weird. Sometime, it won't work. Sometimes, part of the screen can't be touched. Other times, I see my tablet "touching itself".

I think that's just acer's shitty hardware, I have the same issue.
Then I think I didn't understand your original question, no you can't go from 32 bit to 64 bit OS, if you downloaded a 64 bit upgrade for your 32 bit OS it's not going to work, if you dl the similar corresponding OS (32 bit upgrade)

I'm hoping it's not a hardware problem. I've had this thing for almost 2 years now and it only happened ever since the upgrade. But, there's surprisingly another BIOS update this morning already. I downloaded that and it seems to be working fine now.
