The law is a weird thing in that people who deal with it get so desensitized to the real world effects of what they're doing. It's just forms that need to be filled and silly little debates in funny clothes to be won for money and prestige. It's normal to them to do whatever it takes for more billable hours or a bigger settlement. I know quite a few people who've studied law and found they couldn't practise it after a while just because of how insular and indifferent the system is.
