Tarantino's style is not exactly universal. It is strongly linked to American culture and values. In a country that does not have links to the US such as Argentina, people know who Spielberg, Coppola and Scorsese are, but "Tarantino" is not a household name. His movies get rejected pretty hard, most people that I've talked to about any of them find them dumb, vulgar or distasteful.

Yeah but Scorsese doesn't take the graphic violence nearly as far as Tarantino takes it. We can deal with jokes going over our heads and such, but most people outside of the US or Mexico don't enjoy that stuff. My grandma won't even watch movies with explosions or gun violence in them. Would be an improvement if he wasn't mishandled one way or another. In New Hope Vader was one note enough to be executed perfectly, and then his character came later over Empire and ROTJ. Him being a cold bastard is basically useless at this point since Rey beat him on day one of using the Force and a lightsaber, and Finn went even with him for a while with no Force at all, he can't be portrayed as a threat anymore into the new movies so the only way for him to go is his inevitable redemption since he doesn't work for a villain anymore. Apparently Benicio Del Toro was cast as the villain in the next one so I'm guessing he'll be Ren's replacement when he's brought back to the light.

Vader was threatening but it felt like he was a bad guy just because there was the need for an antagonist.
With Vader the first one was just one note, and although he was intimidating that isn't dimensional enough for a character imo.

That's what I said m8, Vader in a New Hope was just meant to be the Enforcer and because that's a simple role to be it was 100% successful as both that character and the villain. Kylo failed as a villain and was inconsistently written as a character which really makes him a failure on that level as well. This makes New hope Vader the more competently executed of the two. It was really the only structural problem in the movie as far as storytelling goes but JJ really botched Kylo for this movie and the next.

I didn't say that though, I was explaining why he failed for the inconsistency in how he was written. I can't even understand what JJ was going for because he seemed to be going for two different things and then in the end tried to reconcile them somehow instead of choosing one and wound up ruining both by doing so which has nothing to do with the character's internal conflict. It seems to be more to do with JJ's internal conflict between choosing what Kylo is supposed to be in these movies, the angsty pushover or the antagonist to Finn and Rey. He seems to want both but they detract from one another to the point that because he is given the character traits of both he winded up not really effectively being either and instead was just all over the place from one scene to the next in a contradictory way.
