The aircraft crashed after a captain allowed his child to manipulate the controls of the plane. The pilot's 11 year old daughter and 16 year old son were taking turns in the pilot's seat. While the boy was flying, he inadvertently disengaged the autopilot linkage to the ailerons and put the airliner in a bank of 90 degrees which caused the nose to drop sharply. The co-pilot pulled back on the yoke to obtain level flight but the plane stalled. With his seat pulled all the way back, the co-pilot in the right hand seat could not properly control the aircraft. After several stalls and rapid pull-ups the plane went into a spiral descent and crashed.

>>4036Can someone explain this ?
>>4037I remember this crash. I saw a documentary on National Geographic about it, and the guys working on it discovered that once the plane started to fall, pilots just had to release the controls to let the plane automatically recover normal speed and inclination.

Also could anyone give my command a once-over to see if I'm immediately doing something wrong?
ffmpeg -i input.mkv -ss 00:02:15 -to 00:03:14 -sn -s 1280x720 -preset:v libvpx-720p -b:v 800k -pass 1 -f webm -async 1 -y output.webm
ffmpeg -i input.mkv -ss 00:02:15 -to 00:03:14 -sn -s 1280x720 -preset:v libvpx-720p -b:v 800k -pass 2 -f webm -async 1 -y output.webm

breddy good. You're not really doing anything wrong as far as I can tell, but I still have plenty to learn about ffmpeg so I might be missing shit. Try using VP9 and opus instead (for video/audio respectively), VP9 used to be slow as fuck but it got multithreading support a few months ago and it's actually pretty useable now. It's still slower than VP8 (a third to a half the speed), but the quality difference is quite significant and the conversion like that one will still be over within ~5-10 minutes. As far as general quality of videos you can use on 8ch go, VP8/vorbis webm<h264/aac mp4<VP9/opus webm. Here's an example of some commands to use:
ffmpeg -ss 00:02:15 -i input.mkv -vf scale=1280:-1 -to 00:03:14 -c:v libvpx-vp9 -pass 1 -b:v 1000k -threads 4 -speed 4 -tile-columns 2 -frame-parallel 0 -auto-alt-ref 1 -lag-in-frames 25 -c:a libopus -b:a 96k -f webm NUL
ffmpeg -ss 00:02:15 -i input.mkv -vf scale=1280:-1 -to 00:03:14 -c:v libvpx-vp9 -pass 1 -b:v 1000k -threads 4 -speed 1 -tile-columns 2 -frame-parallel 0 -auto-alt-ref 1 -lag-in-frames 25 -c:a libopus -b:a 96k -f webm papa_look.webm
-vf scale just scales the resolution according to the source video (-1 scales according to aspect ratio, so a 16:9 video will give an output resolution of 1280 by 720 in this case)
Replace NUL with /dev/null if you use linux. And try -ss in different positions if the original arrangement doesn't work (before or after -i like in your commands, I can't remember which one you're supposed to go with).
Using VP9 you should be able to get rid of the majority of the artifacting. Check out the official guide (http://wiki.webmproject.org/ffmpeg/vp9-encoding-guide) to learn more.

what if it's 0 or 1 or -2? What will happen to the resolution?
No.5261
>>5258
vf scale=x:y (where x and y are some numbers > 0) just tells ffmpeg what the output resolution should be. So if you have -vf scale=600:400 then the resolution of the output video will be 600x400.
What -1 does is it tells ffmpeg to determine one of the dimensions itself based on the aspect ratio of the original video - if the input video has a resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9 aspect ratio) and you use -vf scale=1280:-1 then ffmpeg will make the resolution of the output video 1280x720 (as it's 16:9 and you've already given it one of the values for dimension).
So -vf scale=1280:-1 is the same as -vf scale=1280:720 in this case, it's just convenient to use the former to prevent any potential issues such as accidentally fucking up the aspect ratio when you're dealing with weird output resolutions.
If you use 0 or -2 in vf scale you'll probably just get some error returned and ffmpeg won't convert the video.
