Favourite Wh40k book? Recommendations?

Ciaphas Cain - Death or Glory is cosy as fuck, I've read this book a lot.

Eisenhorn is really good too, so is Gaunt's Ghosts 'the founding' omnibus

Stuff with space marines tends to be over the top, the books about imperial guard and their commissars, or the inquisition are a lot better imo

The Space Wolf omnibus is what got me and a lot of my friends into Warhammer 40,000, some of the things inside it may of been changed with the recent codices and stuff but it's still a good read none the less. I really like the humour you can find within these books, it's sort of quirky and has a british feel but it's a nice addition to a wh40k book since they all seem to be deadpan serious.

Excluding the commissar Cain novels ofcourse.

Priests of Mars was actually the first 40k book I bought for myself and it quickly became my favourite one.
Characters were well written, with each one going for their own goals, and you'll find one or two characters who you'll hate. It's a good thing, seriously.
The plot is full of nice little twists, keeping you reading until the very end.
And if you like the Adeptus Mechanicus this book is a must buy.

Sounds like fun, how long is the book?

 No.233

>>232
The one I have is 317 pages long. Could very well be different on a softback book, though.

Hmm, 317 pages long of AdMech'y goodness, sounds like a decent read I'll be sure to keep my eye open for it.

Thanks for the reply, anon.

Dead Men Walking is highly underrated. Death Korps of Krieg vs Oldcrons - what could be more fucking awesome? The protagonists are all human and relatable but man…

This is a seriously depressing book. It breaks my fucking heart every time I read it, especially the ending.

Woah someone has actually read Dead Men Walking, when ever I try to discuss the book on wh40k sites or ask people what they think about it all none of them have even heard about it.

I blame there not be a Space Marine on the cover.

I wasn't even aware it existed until a few days ago, I've literally never seen any bookstore with it.

The first ever wh40k book I read was Let the Galaxy burn, I recommend this to anyone who wishes to introduce their friends to Warhammer 40,000. Some of the short stories within are written by some well-known authors such as Lee Lightener, Graham Mcniel and Lee lightner.

Seconded.
I borrowed it from a mate just out of random interest (had never heard of warhammer, 40k or black library before)
and just totally fell in love.
Deus Ex Mechanicus remains one of my fave short stories

File: 1419700845270.jpg (177.38 KB, 600x849, 200:283, horusrising.jpg)

My favorite book in the WH40K Universe would have to be the first book in the Horus Heresy series, Horus Rising. It gives one a great insight into the golden age of humanity from several points of view, from remembrancers, marines, guard and even the political powers at play in the great crusade. It does an excellent job of introducing new readers to the Universe and is still lots of fun to read for long-time fans, being able to still teach those who have been fans for a few years some information about various aspects of the lore.

I fucking love Flesh and Iron.
I gotta say its the only book that really made me sympathetic towards Chaos and the Blood Gorgons are really interesting in the way they Operate.
I also enjoy the main characters and the regiment he serves with which I would describe as Swampland Rednecks fighting aliens which is kind of bad ass.
Some great supporting characters such as this one pilot who is the only one that gives a shit about the ground forces so he pumps himself full of Coffee and Stimms so he can stay awake for 4 days straight to give air support. Kick Ass.

Also because its written by a millitary veteran the firefights feel really good and there are even small moments like soldiers laying magazines and field striped autoguns (which I imagine to be M16s) as he does maintenance on them.
Also the setting is pretty great as its basically Space Nam.
Highly recommended.

Dead men Walking is also great.
>Dat Krieg insight
>Dat character transformation
>dat melancholy

Also this is the only book I read I think and this is very impressive. I cant wait to read the rest.

 No.398

It begins and ends with Eisenhorn. Best book, best author, best inquisitor.

 No.409

Space Marines Omnibus
Battle of the Fang
Helsreach
My top three favorites.

This guy gets it. That omnibus was the greatest. Especially the first book Xenos, it had literally everything a science fiction or science fantasy reader could ever want.

Ravenor was good, but Eisenhorn's hard to beat. I read all 700 pages of 'Horny Goodness (ayy) in just two days my first time through.

The Founding/Saint are obviously great too - no need to re-recommend those.

>>227
I just finished reading Blood Reaver after finishing Soul Hunter several years ago. A page turner worth picking up for sure.

Prospero Burns is a good HH one.

>>235
I will pick this up in a haste.

Ciaphas Cain books are my personal favorites and I recommend all of them.

Grey Knights Omnibus was surprisingly good storywise.

Titanicus if you want to know more about titans and the mechanicus.
