To make this board spark into a flame, i suggest we create some sort of war game where we use Paint to design defensive or offensive positions on locations. We pick a random area, such as a dam, a small town, or just some random location, and set up ideas on how to fortify it. Any military experienced NCOs or Officers can teach us some lessons which could be extremely valuable if SHTF and we are stranded and must defend some site.

>Anyone like this idea?

Please tell me yes or no in a reply below. If enough people like it, then i will start a thread for our first scenario.

BO here, I have military experience, but I was not a NCO.

Do you have any experience or knowledge in defending positions which would seperate you from other people?

Even if you dont, like me, i am sure your thoughts and contributions will be helpful if and when i make one of these threads. I have 0 military experience. I took the ASVAB, got a 93, and considered signing up, but never did and never will unless we get to invade China or Best Korea without having to fight Russia

Some, very little.

Most drills I have done I was focused on whats going on at hand, most of that stuff was ranked space magic going on somewhere else.

contact with each other is considered the most important thing thing.

Shoot, move, communicate, kill.

Lay down fire on the enemy, move from the position you were at to a new position so the enemy does not know where you are, communicate with one and other as to the best action, kill the enemy.

For example, enemy rides up in a car up to our dam, we see them but they are to far away to engage, but we open fire anyway. As we do we send someone to move around into a better position, or someone who we set up into the rocks for just such a event moves. We keep in contact with the shooters as we try not to shoot them, and we move around from protection to protection. The enemy makes its move and we alert everyone what that move is, and counter it.

Very basic

What should be done first is recon the size of the hostile force. Count them out, their armaments, their vehicles (if any), and if possible, their appearance (do they look trained? Are they in formation? Are they rag-tag with different guns each?). You need to know what youre up against before fighting.

If small, engage them and have some flank around to wipe them. With the river there, it could be difficult seeing as they can just duck down. Youll want more men across the river.

If large, you can do one of two things.
have one or two engage head-on, and retreat. Make them think theyre gaining the upper hand. They will surely push up. Draw them into your chokepoint, and have your other squad waiting to cut them off. If you have a third, have them move to flank.
Or, you can wait for them to move into a chokepoint. If this is the case, you should already have men flanking around them in the case some retreat.
Heavily armed forces and well-trained units set on taking the dam will push forward, so use this to your advantage. Looters will probably fall back if theyre shot at, and will return later, so you want to wipe them as soon as you can, and make sure you get them all.

Get your maroon beret, strelok. It will help to make sure you arent shooting a friendly or being shot by one!

Were you thinking something like this, OP?

I've been eying the Barnes & Noble as a temp bugout location. Shelves to fortify, Twilight for kindling, shops all around for food.

>Get your maroon beret, strelok.
I would rather have a helmet, thats my personal opinion, beret shall go on-top of helmet.

Something like that, yeah. Except probably some areas more secluded or easier to defend. At least for the first few threads of it.

The OP (probably me) will post a few pictures of a location, give you the objective, give you a number of team members you have available (based off of the location), and the supplies list you have (based off the location, population, etc). Itll be realistic, so no one gets cheytac M200s, M2HBs on every corner, or any of that stuff. If your average /k/ommando doesnt have it or doesnt know how to make it, it probably won be in the supplies list.

Mountainous defense situation would have more long rifles than the city type. The city situation will have more numbers. The rural area will have more cover and probably more firepower, but moderate numbers and a more difficult objective. Itll play out nicely if we can get one started. The page doesnt have enough people active right now, and ill be going to sleep soon.

If you can afford a helmet, go for it. Get a 4" thich armband or a deltiod protector in black or tan, whichever contrasts your camo best.

Location

San Diego, CA

The United States was hit by an EMP attack. You and your four /k/ommando friends have holed up in a newly built medical office building (mainly due to it's new construction and it's relatively long fields of fire [200-400 yds]).

All of you can hit a man sized target with reliability at distances of 400yds.

All of you are of average body mass, none overweight, but none very lean.

All of you are over 18 years old, but under 40.

The power grid is down, and it is unknown when it will return.

Weapons and ammunition

You have a mixmatch collection of arms, a mosin, an SKS, an AR-15, and a scoped fudd rifle, with a ruger .22 rifle for varmits. For side arms, one of you has a Glock 17, one a Walther P99, and one a Ruger MKIII .22 pistol.

For ammunition, your group has half a spam can (~230 rounds) of 54r, around 250 rounds of 7.62x39, 900 rounds of .22, and 450 rounds of .223. An additional 300 rounds of 9mm is had.

Threats

As you are in an urban area, you will most likely be fighting against unorganized raiders looking for easy prey. Once you make yourself known, some may unite to try to take you down.

Food and water

You have 8 gallons of water per person, not counting what's in the building.

There is a creek 1km north, down a government road. It passes under I-15, so you can be damn sure there will be people there. You are unsure of their hostility, but due to the fact that it's the only water source for miles, you assume the worst.

For food, you have 4 days worth per person. One of you has 5-6 50lb buckets of beans and rice for food, that need to be brought up to the building.

*NOTE: this is a desert region, so natural food and water sources will not be plentiful.

Now that the details are out of the way, let's get started.

Opening

September 28, 2015

Five hours ago, at 3:00 PST, an EMP detonated over the western portion of the United States. It rendered much of the electronics we use today inoperable, including every vehicle with an onboard computer(cars made after the late '80s). You and your /k/ommando team has met up and decided to use a nearby building as a base of operations. You all ready your bug out bags and start to move supplies.

As this is the first day, people are unsure of what's happening. Some wait by their stopped cars, others gather round and chat. There is no unordinary violence yet.

Now strelok, what is your first move.

if you have any questions, I will answer

Garfield here, I love the idea.

I'll be posting pics of places in a sort of "yay or nay" fashion, that maybe someone beside myself will see potential in.

Not enough people to properly defend any large area. The arms are too different for any kind of field work too.

Id suggest:

relocating innawoods

or moving to the roof of a very tall building

On the building, block off the stairs/elevator shaft, and set up a garden on the roof. Allow access to the roof only through climbing out the highest floor's window and up a rope. This will allow for one person at a time, and gear can be hoisted up by rope. Youll have a good vantage point to see what is going on, youll have excellent cover if you stay down, you can shit in a bucket and toss it off the side, piss at night off the side, collect rainwater and filter it for drinks, and shoot any bird that lands up there. Just make sure you brought up enough shit to start fires with. And keep your beds raised off the ground and covered somehow so you dont get your shit wet.

Really, with the insufficent arms and troops like that, youre fairly boned.

The only problem will be water. I doubt you will have enough area to grow adequate food too.

Oh ye, there are no innawoods, just scrub brush for hundreds of miles

The first night is spent moving items of necessity into the building, to the top floors. All bring items the first trip, then people are rotated to stay and guard the items. One covering, three moving. By the next day, everything is in order.

Day II

By this time, people are still in limbo as to whether or not things are going back to normal. Some have realized the worst and started buying supplies at the store. People still have basic necessities, so violence has not ramped up… yet.

Now is the time to act. While most are still wondering, it is time to buy supplies necessary for the coming months. Anything that can be of use, from food items to general hygiene items (don't forget this shit!). A good portion of the second day should be spent grabbing items before they are taken. Use what cash you have, because after this point, it will be worthless. focus on item that can provide more than one use, or items that can be grown. Ideally, you should have one person go to a different store and grab what items that they can afford.

Make sure you grab some water. in a desert environment, water will be one of the most important things to have.
