What are some items you should have that are good for trade after SHTF since money will be worthless? How do you trade with people and not get killed when word goes around that you have goods or that people won't just kill you on sight when they learn you have goods?

Can you list some things you think will be good to have and trade?

cc5fa1 No.510

>implying anyone who wants something isn't just going to shoot you and take all your stuff

Might be different if we meetup with some cool guys but if not it's mostly going to be shooting people, because they're hungry and so they'll either Join you, shoot you, Beg you, or demand their "fair share".

but in any case a good trading item if there is any trade would be

>booze

>fire starting things

>anything addictive

>food

>an hour of your ass

c413dc No.513

TP,lighters(matches and flint too),booze, cigs, fuel, canned food, folding knives maybe, ammo, a skill, batteries, books on how to information, maps of areas maybe, basic camping materials such as camping stoves, sleeping bags etc. I would say a can opener and trick your average idiot into buying a useless tool that a knife can do but that's a big if.

A bike pump would be a good trade(has more uses than just pumping air such as finding a abandoned gas station and getting out what little gas is at the bottom of the diesel).

coffee beans or grounds because america is addicted to caffeine. anti-biotics, pain killers, OTC meds. Bleach can be used as a disinfectant(no added smelly stuff only the good original).

Disposable plates are a good trade like you wouldnt believe since most people arent gonna be able to carry done and bulk up with their ceramic plates plus cleaning them. Shampoo, Soap, and Toothpaste

I would say things to avoid is obviously electronics, frozen stuff and other perishables.

Teabags. If real life ends up anything like Metro 2033, tea was seen as a hot item.

Pretty much any drink mix at that. cool aid packs are pretty cheap and can be added to big pitchers for large groups and its cheap(for now)

I should stock up on twinkies now that they make them again. Who know's what I can get for snacks like that. Maybe I can set up a shop when we all meet.

Keep in mind, that ounces are pounds. You've got to carry these goods with you. IT also makes you a giant target, which means you need serious security.

Also keep in mind that skills will be better and safer than actually carrying items with you.

Learn how to make alcohol, grow tobacco/hemp, harvest/grow chicory. Offer services like weapons repair/maintenance/cleaning, tire inflation/patching.

Buy an assload of P-38/P-51/FRED/Church Key can openers, they're cheap and not worth much until you can't open a can.

Locks, pad lock and combination locks.

c413dc No.520

>>519

you can open a can with a knife

also pad locks have a certain amount of keys so you can in theory have all keys to padlocks.

>>you can open a can with a knife

It's a utility tool. I can open a can without any tools, but I'm still going to carry tools. I've always carried a P-38 and always will, just like I've always carried a knife and always will.

>>also pad locks have a certain amount of keys so you can in theory have all keys to padlocks

Or simply have a pair of bolt cutters or sledgehammer.

Locks aren't an 'end all, be all", they're a form of temporary security, designed to prevent quick "smash and grab" type incidents where the criminal party isn't going to be walking around with tools or have advanced lockpicking skills.

a5324e No.523

>>522

alternative ways to open stuff such as above can be useful in many situations and doesnt require carrying around a bulky and heavy sledgehammer.

75aef9 No.524

>>523

The listed ways require attained skill and knowledge prior to applicable use. Simple purchasing of the tools doesn't equate to "trained professional".

Of course lockpicking has its uses, be it crime or tactical entry, if you're looking to gain entry without destroying the lock or alerting your presence. Alternatively, an entry way can be opened with explosives, rams, axes, halogens, door jacks, and a wide assortment of extrication tools during a dynamic entry.

cc5fa1 No.526

Booze would be good to have on you though because

>fire starter depending on the booze

>trading Item

>help disinfect wounds

>if your like me if your uncomfortable sleeping in a fucking makeshift shelter booze might help you fall asleep

>you can't cheeki breeki without vodka strelok

I feel bad saying this but could slave trading come back from this period, not only niggers but men and women in general?

So will we become slave traders? Dabble in it? keep our hands clean?

so many choices and paths to shape what will come. Slavery part 2 the niggerboogaloo

A good part of why slavery was a a thing was because of an entire society geared towards it and a chicken egg situation of no one making anything more efficient because they had slaves and people needing slaves because there are no other more efficient means. Now even a NEET could be taught the basics of machining and engine maintenance in about a year and do the work of a hundred slaves working hard. You could have an engineer slaves a la Mad Max war boys but unless you have cult like fanatical devotion there is very little stopping them from running off and seeking protection with a group that would see him as an equal. Unless you have an entire region that agrees that slavery is okay but even in a lawless world there are a lot that will see issue with that.

Is it still possible? Yes; but it would in no way be ideal for anyone involved. Sexual slavery is different and I would avoid it because any slavery is degenerative to any society of any size.

Silver, simply because it is antimicrobial. Keep it in a bottle of water.

learn to make moonshine and trade the booze

grain alcohol, which you can manufacture relatively easily, tobacco, bic lighters, canned foods, seeds, ammunition if you and your party cant use it, knives, medications, excess equipment, batteries, cheap led flashlights, candy, combo's.

as bad as it sounds women will probably be traded also, or pimped out

Although slavery will likely become a thing again, is that really something we want to get into? From a moral standpoint I couldn't bring myself to do that. Although I can't speak for everyone here, I have a feeling that many of us couldn't stomach the idea from a moral standpoint anyways.

As far as trading is concerned, I'd wager that we wouldn't really want to start sending out expeditions to the surrounding territories until at least a couple months after SHTF. Therefore, we'll want things that would keep for a good while. Alcohol would be a good idea, provided we could keep it safe. If cigarettes could last, then we'd probably want those as well. Aside from that, I figure we'd probably want Twinkies and other long-lasting snack cakes, as well as other "luxury" items.

Since I have access to farmland/livestock, guns and ammo, basic necessities, I will accept silver for small produce trade and gold for tractor larger livestock from those wanting to trade honest for goods.

Cigarettes have a shelf life.

Booze does not.

Rather than stock up, it might be adviseable learning how to trade and sell quickly to your advantage. That's a skill I don't have, but probably worth more than having a basement full of J.D.
