Nah m8 we need to get some sailboats and meet at some unoccupied island or buoy or something. You can buy a remington 870 with a corrosion resistant barrel designed for use near seawater. Fishing skills would be great for food, and most sailboats have a reverse osmosis system for making drinking water out of seawater. Sailboats are the ultimate SHTF thing, especially if you can get a crew of 3-4 people on one.

It's the 870 Special Purpose Marine Magnum, designed for use by the Coast Guard and Port Authority. Mossberg also makes competitive model to the 870, the "500 Mariner".

The 870 Marine Magnum is electroless plated with Nickel, while the 500 Mariner has the Mossberg Marinecote, which is a propriety formula made up of Nickel and Teflon that Mossberg keeps closely guarded (probably Elctroless Nickel).

MSRP for the 870 Marine Magnum is around $840, while the 500 Mariner MSRP is around $550.

Mossberg also makes the 590 "Mariner", also coated with Marinecote, but at a higher MSRP than the 500.

Both can be found cheaper used, as low as mid $600s for the 870 and mid $400s for the 500.

It does have that little fishery and decent sized hydroponics area. That and plenty of underground tunnels for easy travel across the parks. I assume the tunnels go from one part to another but i can only confirm what little i saw under the Magic Kingdom.

Actually, it could theoretically work if you are /k/ enough it could work depending on the scenario. Depending on scenario- that is.

Government goes full dictatorship: park would probably stay open for money and tourism. Security would probably be upgraded. Definetly not the place to go in this kind of happening.

Government Collapses or DC and most places are nuked etc: Assuming Orlando or Region arround Kennedy Space Center isn't hit by a nuke and or fallout? Yes. They have tons of food, generators, fuel for the generators, bunkers, supplies, and wild animals depending on the park. The feral cats hunt rats and other animals so disease won't be as bad of an issue and there are nearby lakes and areas to fish. The cons to all these pros is that other people will obviously think of this, and the park may still be open. So you are going to have to compete with others. Also hurricanes and the fact that after a collapse you are going to have to deal with the area it's built on turning slowly into a swamp and dealing with mosquitos.

also the best place to temporarily hunker down would be a library as none of the libraries in new orleans (when katrina hit) were broken into. they have maps of the local area and a back up generator with gasoline.
