I'm an atheist and I think science is the best thing going for the human species. So when I approach the unknown, I strictly use the scientific method. BUT, it's fun/educational to play around in the unknown with rituals and whatever else. You might not literally be summoning shit, but what I believe to be the religious part of your brain…makes that shit real.
In this book it is spoken of the Sephiroth and the Paths; of Spirits and Conjurations; of Gods, Spheres, Planes, and many other things which may or may not exist. It is immaterial whether these exist or not. By doing certain things certain results will follow; students are most earnestly warned against attributing objective reality or philosophic validity to any of them.

I do not believe in any of the above but I do strongly believe our universe to be a computer simulation of a sort. However, this computer need not be constructed or mechanical in nature. For example, this computer could be a butterfly and our world could be a dream in the butterfly's head. Or the computer could be a natural construction like a bubble of self-replicating chemicals in a protein soup. Moreover, as this computer would exist in the over-universe and not our simulated universe it need not obey our physical laws at all. In other words, this computer is outside of time and space and by our standards could be any possible combination of supernaturally intelligent, mad, blind and idiotic.
Now around about here, some /x/ browsers might start mouthing off about how we can hack into the matrix and awaken from our imprisonment via meditation, lucid dreaming and other mystical techniques. I strongly believe that hacking into the universe is probably impossible without technological help. Most probably, to produce results that interfere with the over-universe one would need to produce some kind of very large scale consistent pattern that unbalances things, or create situations that demand a very large amount of processing power.
Keep in mind that the universe is massive and already has massively powerful explosions in it (stars.) I think the most straightforward and obvious way to use up a large amount of processing power would be to create very high energy particle collisions. Strange results in modern physics from those collisions might be due to the over-computer being unable to cope with such complicated calculations. However, we might require huge amounts of power for that such as from ant-matter matter bombs.
The other form of hacking where very large scale physical patterns are created might require massively large structures that would interfere with computer simulations or possibly very small and precise patterns such as from precisely arranged molecules.
In summary, magic may be possible but I think magic would probably require high energy explosions such as from colliding suns with anti-matter suns and creating galaxy sized patterns. I may be making serious overestimations or underestimations though.
