Side discussion: Even back in the 1990s when I was a kid, I noticed how the superheroes of the original Image Comics tended to be older than the characters seen in competing comic books. I suspected then (and now) that the founders of Image were telling stories about superheroes who were their own age, thus as the creators aged, their characters got older also, even fresh new characters were middle aged. The Savage Dragon, Grifter and Lord Emp, Spawn, Striker, that guy who lead Wetworks, and even The Maxx were middle aged dudes in their thirties or forties.
That phenomena primarily was restricted, however, to male superheroes. Here we see Grifter who has been a soldier since at least the 1970s with his cozy teammate, Voodoo, who is maaaaybe as old twenty-one. I think she was eighteen in the original WildC.A.T.S. mini-series, but I don't remember clearly.
Due to Grifter's continually showing up in all sorts of storylines where he didn't belong, I think he represented Jim Lee as the creator's way of working himself into his story.
