Here's the low-down:
If you watch vid related you'll see that the show is titled "the berenstain bears".
Additionally, an internet search of the show will also tell you that the show is titled "the berenstain bears".
Despite this, everyone who saw the show as a kid vividly remembers it being titled "the berenstein bears".
This led some to believe that our very reality itself has been tampered with and we now reside in an alternate universe.
So what does /x/ think? Legit?
It's definitely spooky.
No.16910
oh god, just stop.
i can't believe im explaining this yet again:
>kids don't have a perfect memory, since the frontal lobe isn't fully developed and comparative memories aren't around yet.
>-stein is a more common part of a surname then -stain, so with that comparative knowledge in adulthood, people would be more quickly to assume 'stein' above 'stain'.
there is nothing spooky about this phenomenon, so just accept your memory isn't objective and chiseled in stone, but rather dynamic and grown, which brings problems like false/distorted memory.

My problem with that is I'm a dyslexic, so growing up reading was hard for me. I've always had to sound things out. So I know if it was BerenstAin bears it'd pronounce it as such. I remember reading that book as a kid and if it said BerenstAin I'd keep fucking it up.

Millions of people are ==adamant== that the word "Dilemma" is actually spelled with a silent N, as "Dilemna". It's the Mandela effect.

I know that this whole "alternate universe" shit is just for fun, but the real explanation for this is that it's often people misreading/misremembering things, we've all done it. I used to read "Vaporwave" as "Vaporware", for example (dumb I know).
First off, Stain is very similar to Stein. Stein is a more common name (oy vey!), and people read it wrong. Most people are only barely literate anyway, especially children. Also, everyone pronounced it "Bernstein"; therefore they thought it was spelled that way. And "Berenstein" just looks better than "Berenstain", imo.
"Play it again, Sam." is not in Casablanca. Darth Vader never said, "Luke, I am your father." Kirk never said, "Beam me up, Scotty". Carl Sagan never said "billions and billions", except to say that he never said it. You thought "Sex AND the City" was "Sex IN the City" because "in" is phonetically similar to "and", even though it was always meant to be "and". Human memory is not perfect.
