Everyone was a bit freaked out, especially Jeff who after all this told me how "fucking shitting himself" he was, direct quote I might add.
I'm a little on edge at this point, but it could have been anything, the African bush is freezing cold at night, we all had a good few layers on plus blankets and I had the heater on in my cabin so it could have been early hypothermia or even food poisoning, she'd been eating alot of Biltong (Basically Jerky but prepared differently and raw), who knows.
That was until the roaring started up again, but this time somehow a higher pitch, I tried to carry on the drive, we saw a herd of buffallo at a watering hole and a baby elephant but the roaring was always there, at one point it sounded like it was right ahead of us.
Eventually I give the guys a question, I say I have to investigate this as it could have been an injured animal, we had about 25,000 acres and the whole big five plus a bunch of other life, but it could have been a lion that was illegally shot, and that meant poachers, and that means a big fucking deal considering we had about 20 Rhinos in our land at that point.
I say I can either drive half an hour back to the lodge and drop them off and cut the tour short or I can carry on the tour for an extra hour and a half but investigate the noise, the vote was 5-3 for investigating, so I head towards the noise, I call in the local anti poaching team in our area and say what's happening and ask if they've had any unknown vehicles or broken fences in the area and there was nothing
