I'm part of a team and we're making a visual novel with board tans, and in order to respect community lore I'm wondering how you feel about /fringe/.
Are they a totally different thing that you don't identify with, or are they split from this board?
/x/-tan has a red eye that can see the paranormal. I'm pitching /fringe/ being the curse of that eye escaping and forming it's own board-tan.
/x/-tan now wears an eye-patch to hide the secrets within.
Discuss.
No.8558
I don't know about any of that. However.. Just take a look at /fringe/. Why? Just.. Why?
The Mod is A shit. The board is A shit. /x/ should be more populated but at least the containment board does its job well. The small number of post /x/ has received are usually quite good. Before the DDoSing it was in the top 30 and a board of the week.
Come home spooky man.

>>8557I guess both /x/-tan and /fringe/-tan would know the same about the paranormal, but there is obviously a difference in personality.
/x/-tan is shy, but once you get to know her you can talk with her about a wide range of topics, most of them related to the paranormal in general. Want to talk about ghosts? Check. Want to talk about aliens? Check. Want to write a horror story with her? Check. Want to get help with your lucid dreaming or your dream diary, maybe even astral projection? Check. Want to talk about metaphysics? Check. Want to comment a Lovecraft novel with her? Double-fucking-check. Doesn't even have to be related to monsters, spirits or magic, /x/-tan also loves to talk about mundane horror stories (homeless horror stories threads, for example) or even science-fiction horror. She can also talk about stuff unrelated to horror, but these are her favorite topics. /x/-tan is definitely a weird girl, but she's
mostly sane, after all. She enjoys both horror and actual paranormal equally, and is constantly seeking for answers and new experiences. /x/-tan is a xenophile.
/fringe/-tan, on the other hand, is probably more of a shut-in. It is obvious she is insane, but the extent of her mental diseases is unknown. /fringe/-tan doesn't like talking about horror fiction as much, but about magic. Of course, that doesn't mean she doesn't know about Cthulhu and the likes, but she believes talking about fiction is pointless. She practices magic
(or at least tries to) for practical purposes, hence why discussing horror is simply not entertaining to her. Also knows about aliens, but definitely her favorite topic is magic, rituals and astral matters. /fringe/-tan investigates magic for results, not for fun. Probably thinks /x/-tan is a simple mundane, even though she fucking has a paranormal eye.
tl;dr /x/ enjoys her curiosity and love of the paranormal and horror in general, /fringe/ just wants to know new spells. There is probably a quite tense relationship between them.
Also, where did you get that first pic from, OP? It looks rad as fuck, and it's 8/x/-tan design, so it is kinda modern.

Japanese girls cut their hair after ending a relationship, a symbol of a new stage of their lives. It means they have "moved on" and they are ready to forget about their past.
While halfchan and /x/-tan weren't in a sentimental relationship, the meaning of cutting her hair could still stay. It makes sense, after all. /x/ has forgotten about halfchan already, we've moved on and ready to live a new life.

Not a single image of fringe chan.
Everyone is always iffy on fringe because everyone there is already committed to researching the occult to find truth in it. As a result, they don't give a fuck what it looks like to others, they're focused on their own paths to their own goals. Astral projection is a good dogma they have, though. Not a whole lot of RP'ers can keep up with some of the shit they go over. They're also incredibly racist and elitist at times. Honestly, it's best to take what speaks to you from their mega library.

I don't really think x-tan should have different "versions" for boards. I love her long hair ( Japanese ghosts have long hair/long hair to me seems more.. mysterious? standoffish? )
There are common threads throughout many ghost/paranormal stories throughout the world. Yes, there are some regional spins, but the core is the same. thats another reason that I think x-tan should stay the same - shes universal across all.

I'm not a chan historian, but I was under the impression that fringe existed independent of x and their presence on infinite was a migration from another board. I don't think they'd even be related, even if there's a little bit of overlap in topic. Fringe often behaves more like a metaphysical /pol/ than a specialized /x/.
If anything, in a visual novel I think fringe would be more like the new girl that has the same friends/style as x but is a condescending bitch to her because fringe thinks she's the hottest shit ever.

Dude, /x/-tan's design is pretty simple and straightforward, and best of all is both the socks (what the fuck does "tranny socks" even mean) and the eye make her an easily recognizable character.
Most other board tans (I think all of them except /x/, /d/, /v/ and /mlp/) tend to be fairly generic, and while they can be recognized inside their context or drawing the whole character, it would be difficult to identify them without those things.
>Draw suit and nazi band

The hair is standard crazy cat lady hair. Hex maniac uses the same one because it fits the archetype.
The red eye doesn't make much sense (originally made as an eye capable of "seeing the paranormal"), but it looks cool and mysterious and has become one of the insignias of /x/-tan.

/fringe/ and /x/ are basically parts of halfchan's /x/, with /x/ concentrating on creepypastas and the 'old /x/' type discussions, where paranormal or creepiness is the main theme. /fringe/, on the other hand, is what halfchan's /x/ turned into, with people actually believing their own stories, heavily emphasizing on the spiritual and esoteric.
personified, /x/ would be the guy who watches the x-files, goes to haunted places to get anything on camera, or generally enjoys stories told around the campfire, while /fringe/ is the new-age hippy who uses tarrot-cards to predict the future and believes in any subject which are interesting to her/him being highly spiritual in nature.

Hey guys, passerby here. Sorry for the bump. I've been compiling, as you might notice if you go to other boards, information on how various boards, after this long, are using mascots or not, if they redesigned them, etc. I figure I might as well use this thread instead of a new one since it's already here.
When you guys where redesigning /x/ (who was one of the most popular mascots before), I remember you had a very good idea of just having her change clothes, to emphasize that unlike /v/, there was no traumatic separation here between chans- and so you can easily imagine /x/ dressed in 8ch attire one day, halfchan attire the next.
With that in mind, and seeing the slight backlash agaisnt the design that ended up chosen, how do you guys like the actual outfit? Do you only have problems with the short hair?
