Hey there fags! In light of the recent announcement of XCOM 2, many of you poorfags, myself included, remembered they never finished their now non-canon (or maybe not, if you suck enough!) playthrough of the Long War.

Many of you are also autists like me who had both pirated it yet cannot live without playing the most recent version of something, only to find any and all torrents were from hella old versions and thus didn't work, and to boot missed that sweet sale that happened with the announcement.

Alas, after many questions and pleas for help gone unanswered, I have found the way to do it! And in true, selfless fashion, I shall teach you the dance of the poorfag.

First, grab this:

https://thepiratebay.gd/torrent/9185034/XCOM_Enemy_Within-RELOADED

Any Enemy Within copy you have lying around will actually do, but I've only tested with Reloaded copies so I'm going with that to be sure.

Now, this:

https://thepiratebay.gd/torrent/10165467/XCom_EW_Modded_Long_war_Pack

Grab the update rar and drop it into the Enemy Within/XEW folder, and overwrite everything. For the crack, since this is a badly translated updated pack from a russian site, it's badly explained, but there are three versions - he says it's one for each type of processor but I couldn't make sense of it.

For my case, an i5, the first one worked just fine. Drag and drop to Enemy Within/XEW/Binaries/Win32. Overwrite as needed.

(For you folks with iffy antiviruses, it might detect a false positive on steam_api.dll - feel free to test it to your hearts' desire, but if you pirate a lot of vidya you should be used to this file causing trouble with these types of programs.)

Now, ignore the Long War setup that comes with it - it's grossly out-of-date. Grab the newest one here:

http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/88/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fxcom%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D88&pUp=1

You'll need a Nexus account, but if you're annoyed with that I'm sure you can find mirrors elsewhere or better, a kind anon can upload it to mega as this thread goes on.

Run the setup and then run XComEW.exe - congratulations, you can now play the most recent version of the Long War!

I hope this brings both relief and happiness to you, fellow anons. Game on.

Also, this can serve too as a snektits XCOM general thread.

HOW TO REDUCE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Users\user\Documents\My Games\XCOM - Enemy Unknown\XComGame\Config and then open up XComEngine.ini file.

Open the file with notepad and press "Ctrl" and "F" to open the search menu. Type in the search box "[SystemSettings]" without the quotes.

Edit anything you want under [SystemSettings] except:

DepthOfField=True

AmbientOcclusion=True

SHSecondaryLighting=True

DirectionalLightmaps=True

Make sure to keep a backup of the XComEngine.ini file.

You may experience technical issues at first, so you will need to experiment to get the settings that you need.

UPDATE

Posting the magnet links so no dealing with piratebay fuckery.

I fucked up fomratting a little - if board owner anon could fix that I'd much appreciate it.

Done and done! Thanks for coming.

If you have any requests or questions, feel free to ask.

45b0a9 No.278

Thanks anon.

59a6b2 No.287

Should I play the vanilla game before trying Long War?

244f4a No.288

>>287

If its your first time playing ever, than ya, you should atleast get to where you feel comfortable with playing classic + ironman before going to Long War.

59a6b2 No.291

>>288

alright thanks playa

59a6b2 No.325

>>98

Does Enemy Within come with the base game?

244f4a No.326

>>325

I assume so. Enemy Within is available as an expansion pack, but this is much larger than the base game, so it should be coming with it.

59a6b2 No.327

>>326

Oh so I should just play enemy within, I thought it was a separate campaign but it just adds onto the base game right?

244f4a No.328

>>327

Its the same, with much more content. Enjoy!

59a6b2 No.332

Say, OP, is Ironman advised? I feel like normal is way too easy just by itself, and classic is significantly harder so I need something to balance that out.

9d8e56 No.333

>>332

Ironman is the only mode that matters. It creates tension and makes your decisions truly matter.

582440 No.444

So it appears that this isn't the latest version of enemy within (toolboks told me so).

9d8e56 No.445

>>444

As long as it works more or less consistently, its fine. It would be nice to get a newer trusted version, but that would require someone to actually do that.

582440 No.446

>>445

So how the fuck do I use toolboks

9d8e56 No.447

>>446

http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/79/

I don't know anon, I'm like 70% through the torrent myself. What issue are you having?

582440 No.448

>>447

It tells me I have an outdated version and I can't select anything other than speed and skip intros.

9d8e56 No.449

>>448

Look for an earlier version.

Or

I'm pretty sure you can actually make most of those changes in the Long War config, or that's at least what I remember hearing.

Just make sure to back up the config file.

582440 No.450

>>449

I tried long war for two days and gave up near the end cause it became frustrating and retarded. I just want to make simple changes to the vanilla game, toolboks seems perfect if I could get it to fucking work.

9d8e56 No.451

>>450

I'm sorry man, I'm not sure what to do. We're using a fairly old version of LW. Maybe you should ask the current /v/ thread? I've heard them talk about editing it and stuff.

582440 No.452

>>451

Oh I can't even use toolboks cause it modifies the .exe

9d8e56 No.453

>>452

Try seeing if you can do it in the .config.

Presumably if there is one. I sure as hell hope so.

582440 No.455

>>453

Can I add your ass on steam or something

880c97 No.543

I tried installing the patch in the OP and I got an msvcr120.dll not found error, and after installing the 2013 x86 redist which I think is what that is the game does not start. I copied all the old files back in to test if it was my machine or the patch and it worked like it should, so I am either using the incorrect VC or some other thing is wrong.

Any ideas?

9d8e56 No.544

>>543

Get this http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr120#

And put it in the folder with the executable you are trying to use. Also did you apply the crack that comes with the torrent?

They should be on the .ISO

880c97 No.545

>>544

I should have clarified: I tried getting the .dll itself, putting it in the binaries folder and it didn't work. It didn't give the error, so it found it but it still failed.

I got the game itself from a 3DM torrent a long while ago, not from the OP link. It's the z10yded version and it works perfectly; I've beaten the game with it. If you're talking about the CPU-specific cracks, there are some in the long war/patch torrent. I have a Phenom II so I used the AthlonPhenom.rar one. Surely if you're telling me to use the one in the main game torrent it would not work since since the ones in the patch torrent are newer? I hope that's an error on your part.

I just had a passing interest in getting my old version up to the latest, not explicitly to play long war but just to have a new version.

Thanks for your time.

9d8e56 No.546

>>545

If you mean the long war patch, than I can't guarantee it will work with your version of Enemy Within. The anon who posted the guide got it to work with that specific torrent and that specific version of LW.

I DLed it recently and got EW to work perfectly fine, and have heard others get LW to work with it too.

880c97 No.547

>>546

I'm trying to get the enemy within patch located in that torrent to update my old enemy within game. I do not want to play long war.

9d8e56 No.548

>>547

Just use the entire install if you got the whole 16GB~ torrent.

I really don't know if the update will work across cracks.

47fc00 No.553

OP didn't work for me but this did.

Download this torrent:

http://88.80.6.5/hash/9e1822652d708a69c2e92c58ec4acf33726bba8d/torrent-info/XCOM-Enemy-Unknown-The-Complete-Edition-PROPHET

Download the crack here (torrent is already updated to the latest version so you don't need the update)

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/r9w2my95p9559/XEW

Then download Long War from the nexus and install.

http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/88/?

Also if you get the msvcr120.dll not found error you need to install this.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

I installed everything but when I boot up the game it just goes on with normal EW, got this error and clicked ignore while installing the mod, what do /xen/

977428 No.562

>>560

nvm fixed it ;^)

4dd34b No.565

>>562

Good, I would have been very upset with you if it didn't work.

Perhaps even angry.

47fc00 No.567

>>553

The torrent is slow as fuck now. Here's a better one.

http://88.80.6.5/torrent/3e6594e7816ea7d5fa5bd5b330c3a6e5a78c560e

I'm a retard, what file would that be?

4dd34b No.570

78d30d No.606

I can't get the game to work. No matter what I do when I open up the new game I can't choose a starting location(the list is completely empty), and if I press confirm it loads up a mission and then freezes at a black screen.

7c8d65 No.607

>>606

Which torrent did you use?

Also did you make sure to apply the crack?

78d30d No.608

>>607

Fitgirl repack. I've lost the magnet link.

7c8d65 No.610

>>608

Sorry m8, I can only confirm that the version in the OP works, since its the one I've been playing on. Sounds like its missing something for you, since those don't seem like the usual errors.

78d30d No.612

>>610

Looked through the logs found in the Long War Files folder and appearently an error occurred where the XCOMEW.exe file wasn't found, despite not bringing up errors in the actual installation. What a load of shit. Guess I'll need to shit around even more with the installing to get the damn thing to work.

7c8d65 No.613

>>612

Maybe you have the locations mixed up? if it cant find it, but its installed, it could just mean its off target.

d5a47c No.614

File: 1436418206937.png (948.88 KB, 890x544, 445:272, deadthinman.PNG)

How do I fix this?

7c8d65 No.617

>>614

Game bug, which torrent did you use?

d5a47c No.618

>>617

Prophet

Updated with https://www.mediafire.com/folder/r9w2my95p9559/XEW then installed LW.

7c8d65 No.619

>>618

Sorry I can only recommend the torrent in the OP, as I've said several times ITT.

The setup is a little iffy, but once you get it right, I've never experienced any game breaking bugs.

From that image, are the thinmen still alive despite being killed?

d5a47c No.620

>>619

No, they are properly dead. It's just that when I reload a save, they froze up like that (look at the outsiders, they're already killed)

7c8d65 No.621

>>620

Huh, ya that's bizarre as fuck. As long as it doesn't break the game it doesn't really hurt, but its still weird.

d22a56 No.622

>>621

Probably some kind of ragdoll issue. When reload, stunned enemies still get stunned again, dead enemies just left froze up like that.
