Hello and welcome to /xivg/ - a place to discuss anything related to Final Fantasy XIV. I believe having a centralized board dedicated to FFXIV could be a great place to cultivate unique discussion in a way different than /v/ (8ch or 4ch) where users are confined to a single thread, or reddit/OF where your voice is much more likely to be censored or restricted.

The rules regarding this board will be quite simple:

All threads should be related to XIV. Off topic threads may be deleted.

Any pornographic material should be spoilered. Posting unspoilered porn, especially in a thread not related to it, is grounds to be banned.

Avatarfagging/ERP should be kept within their own threads (ERP in the ERP thread, Avatarfagging in server/community threads). Avatarfagging outside of the containment threads will be grounds for a ban.

Finally, if you have ideas, criticisms, or comments related to this board, please feel free to post them below.

Not a lot of Heavensward oriented talk here, so might as well start some.

Many of us know the issues with Alexander: Gordias (Savage) and how its over tuned gear checks are breaking apart statics and taking the fun out of raiding for many midcore groups.

But what would you have done differently about Alexander: Gordias in 3.0? Would you have kept the current format (Story and Savage) and adjusted the difficulty? Or would you approach it in a different way.

I can only speak with experience clearing A1S and A2S, with some limited wiping on A3S but:

Release Savage first (possibly dont call it savage, just "normal" mode), maybe with some other form of entry/mid tier content (Void ark? Airship exploration? Something else?) and release story mode in 3.1. This would give a lot more players a bigger incentive to actually progress the fights, I know personally seeing the story unfold and seeing the new zones/bosses was a big part of Coil. Being able to do story mode first just made Savage feel like a chore.

Tune A3 and A4 down a bit to 2nd/3rd Coil levels. Make people feel like it isn't hopeless. A1 and A2 are fine tuning wise I think, A3 and A4 just seem unfun though. Then maybe released the ACTUAL savage mode a la Coil 2 with 3.1 or 3.2 and give hard-core raiders dick waving titles/mounts/glamours for completing them.

That looks really great, clear skies in Coerthas are pretty hard to come by.

I wish there was a way we could explore/take-in the dungeons without a time limit breathing down us. Maybe they'll open them up for solo-queues soon.

Either way is fine really, I personally prefer using them for crafting since there isn't much of an alternative but if you don't really care about crafting may be better to just use them on your battle classes. The worst thing you can do is just let them sit at 99 and not use them.

Crafting? Craft and sell things on the MB, preferably useful mid-level things that have few or no listings and stay sold out. Also do your goddamn Ehcatl Ixal beast tribe dailies, turn the oaknots into shit that sells. Preferably Ehcatl sealant depending on your world's economy.

Gathering? Find out what sells well, things like silver ore/electrum ore/effervescent water for MIN move somewhat well while leveling and can even fund gear upgrades. Not sure what the BTN equivalents would be. Failing any of that, farm shards/crystals/clusters as long as there's a market and you're not fighting shard-farming RMT pissbabies.

Neither of the above? Level up a tank, do roulettes for the adventurer-in-need bonus, spam roulettes and keep exploiting the bonus. Sometimes it'll be healer but most of the time it's tank.

Gear Acquired:
>WoD Caster Robe
>NIN Poetics Boots
>i100 Dungeon Caster Robe (Glamour)
>Forager's Chest/Pants/Wrists/Pickaxe

General Accomplishments:
>Dipped into T10 for the first time, got to 55% on the third attempt
>Able to hit 2 Star Miner nodes now

And in general, made a lot of improvements to things in general. Also did some rearranging in my private house.

Hit 50 NIN, used my WoD drop on the gloves for it. Spent some poetics and soldiery on it (had some sands/carboncoats lying around) so it's i123 now.
Managed to get it to parse 520 without b4b or really knowing my rotation at all. Now that I do I can probably hit 550+.
Got my SCH zodiac in time for the new patch. While I'm acc capped I can probably squeeze out a few more points of eMND if I remeld some gear.

Knowing how my static functions we're probably going to postpone raid until Wednesday if not Thursday. Hopefully I can get a nice T13 parse out of it.

Honestly I'd just change companies. I'll probably change my company once I get a few classes to 50. The company I'm in right now though is kinda helping me along so I'll probably dump a wad of gil in their bank before vanishing to the ether.

Most of them play on consoles and don't use VoIP. That's a deal breaker for me.

2) if you change your mind and want to rejoin they'd probably let you

We're roughly 2 weeks away from the launch of gold saucer and probably what will (I hope) be the biggest drive for a long time to keep coming back to this game but I'm curious to know out there what keeps everyone still playing.

For me, right now, it's all about that Main Scenario. And really, it ties into the non-gameplay appeal of XIV as a whole. Which, I imagine is probably fucking insane to a lot of people but I find the main storyline one of the most engrossing parts of the game. I enjoy everything else it has to offer, but the MS has just the perfect amount of melodrama and lore to keep me engrossed in it.

Non-MS storylines also really get me hooked, as a good number of the Job storylines have relatively well written stories, such as Ninja or Bard, with Black Mage and Scholar having some of the best ones I've seen, really getting me hyped to see if they will continue directly from where they left off for 3.0 and has me hyped for the forthcoming jobs as well.

Just wondering what else it is that keeps people coming back. And, I dunno, I'm bummed out that I discovered this board after it seemed to have died out…
