ITT: POST POOPS THAT ACHIEVE MORE THAN YOUR AVERAGE POOP IN TERMS OF GENUINE VALUE AND ORIGINALITY

EXPLAIN JUST WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL, DON'T FUCK AROUND HERE THIS IS ART DISCUSSION

I'LL START

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMHANUJD5NQ

ASIDE FROM BEING A BEAUTIFULLY EXECUTED FAST POOP WITH PLENTY OF WHOLLY ORIGINAL JOKES, THIS POOP MAKES EXCELLENT USE OF EXISTING TROPES OF THE SUB-GENRE, INCLUDING THE INCREDIBLE CROWD CLAPPING STUTTERS. THIS ISN'T CS188'S USUAL TURF, BUT HE PROVES THAT HE'S NOT UNABLE TO STEP TO THE LIKES OF GEIBUCHAN IN TERMS OF FAST POOPS.

THE THING THAT REALLY SETS THIS POOP APART, THOUGH, IS IT'S GENIUS PREMISE. CS188 STARTS BY LAMPOONING THE STYLE OF HIS MUCH OLDER WORKS (AND AMATEUR POOPERS IN GENERAL) BY POOPING FOOTAGE HE HIMSELF FILMED FOR THE PARTICULAR PURPOSE. AFTER HE GETS DONE SPOOFING HIMSELF, HE CONTINUES TO SPOOF HIMSELF, USING BARACK OBAMA AS A MOUTHPIECE FOR HIS IRONIC SELF-HATING MONOLOGUE ABOUT HOW HE WATERED DOWN THE YTP SCENE WITH STUPID SEX JOKES AND SENTENCE MIXING- BARACK WOULD RATHER WATCH A DOTSPORECAM VIDEO.

HONESTLY THIS POOP IS INSPIRING AND SHOULD SERVE AS A LESSON IN JUST WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH YTP- POOPS CAN HAVE CONSISTENT NARRATIVES THAT ADD TO THE HUMOR WHILE STILL RETAINING THAT WHICH MAKES THEM GREAT.

All very good points, it had a message to youtube poopers, an integration of cs188's own video footage, and he does an excellent job at changing up his own style. However, when I watch YTPs, the first thing I'm looking for is humor; when I say that I either liked a YTP or didn't like it, what usually determines that judgement is whether it made me laugh or not. There's no doubt that it's a very funny and original YTP the entire way through, but I still laughed hardest when he was parodying his old style on 0:35-0:55. Maybe I just have a very immature sense of humor.

If you like YTPs that have plot lines, this is the best one that I can think of, once again made by cs188:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQWHjq7hqIE

In regards to humor in particular, quality, and video editing skill, I have found marc3611's newest videos, on his account marck3611, to be outstanding. Examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ruUhbaxLtE

In this YTP, Marck3611 makes excellent usage of the narrator to both add development and humor, particularly during the exchanges between him, Billy Mays, and the other people in the infomercial. When the narrator bet that Billy Mays couldn't use the sander without falling was very clever and funny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgbU_8Fxv6k

This one has excellent plot development, as Dr. Rabbit goes to the various countries and wreaks havoc on each of them. Marck3611 also shows off his editing skills with the rockets and the middle east scene in particular. I found the lines "knock knock," "who's there?" "slavery" and "let's give that kangaroo some crack and see if it takes us to America" very funny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROn5o91t0ck

I laughed the hardest at this one, and it's probably my favorite of the three. While simpler than the other two stylistically, Marck3611 still integrates the Amazon shopping list and makes Billy Mays advertize each of the items. The jokes were fantastic. The subtle "heavy or light, nigger small," was hilarious, as was the toucan sequence, where Marck3611 demonstrated that he can be humorous by simply being clever.

There's nothing wrong with that, honestly. Obviously, taste is subjective. I find myself less inclined to enjoy pure sex jokes over a well-done stutter or a sort of ripped-out-of-context contortion of footage into an entirely new joke. An example from NWOAT would be STOP THE POLITICAL CIRCUS. That sort of joke can only be done in YTP.

That said, good sentence mixing can be fucking golden, and is also really something that can only be done right in YTP. If I saw an SNL skit wherein Billy Mays sold you the Drunk Jack, I'd scoff at it, but the way sentence mixing sounds and just the nature of how it comes to be is hilarious to me.

>YTPs that have plot lines

>A Michael Rosen Christmas
I appreciate the suggestion, but I prefer poop premises to be a bit more abstract or "flexible" than that. I have a lot of respect for pure flash poops, but I'm more interested in the narrative styles of OrpheusFTW and DurhamRockerZ.

OrpheusFTW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWlKr4seJ-0

The Skooks series is an incredible example of YTP jokes that can only be done in YTP. Orpheus sets up several running gags per episode, and starting with episode 2, the creativity he shows is astonishing. I didn't fully understand the beginning to Skooks 2 for literally dozens of watches, and when I figured it out, I was crying from laughter.

Shaggy comes in, does his hilarious dance (one of the earliest running gags in the show), and then is joined by Tom Cruise. Once the dance starts looping, so does the song, in sync to the looping. After a while, Tom Cruise is blown up by scientology. Velma laments his loss, and Shaggy is driven into a deep depression.

This is what I'm talking about. This stuff is some of the first properly done YTP, in my opinion.

Okay, now Durham.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrJAYOmOFTo

Durham has some of the best Vegas visual gags I have ever seen in my life, and many of his gags are like triple passe now but were new at the time and still hilarious to this day:
"I can't stand another meal with beal at our dinner table." Bill's breakdown at the very beginning. Bill's breakdown near the middle! That fucking house zoom, and robodale. Frankly, everything about this poop is perfect except for the ending which feels forced.

>posts a bunch of Marck3611 videos

You have GOAT taste in sentence mixing, dude. The interplay between Billy and the narrator in Orange Glo is fucking hysterical, and a perfect example of the kind of sentence mixing that can get me to laugh.

I didn't like the Dr. Rabbit one as much, though. I can't really justify it, which probably means I just have to watch it again.

>Everything and Nothing

Fuck yeah, dude. The premise on that is fantastic- "find funny things on Amazon, make Billy Mays advertise them." Innovative, and funny to boot. The shopping cart at the end was hilarious.

If you like Marck, check out xox. He's pretty Marck-inspired, with lots of sentence-mixing. I'd recommend starting with the Jesse Ventura series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtca3XnCSV8

Like most good series, it gets exponentially better with each episode.

>OrpheusFTW
One of my favorites. When you mentioned YTPs that had narratives, I hadn't thought of YTPs that were in a series, and you're right, The Misadventures of Skooks is a great example. I particularly OrpheusFTW's short YTPs with CopperCab:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDKHN20zF-8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQsCayQ_5rs

In these ones, OrpheusFTW uses music to add humor, but does not rely upon it entirely or go on with it for too long, like other YTPMVs tend to do. Every second is hilarious, which lends these ones to be viewed again and again. I'm having trouble finding a reupload of the one with Hatsune Miku, that one was my favorite.

CopperCab is an interesting source. It would initially seem like he would be perfect, as he has tons of videos and he's funny to watch to begin with, yet most YTPs that I have seen with him are terrible. I think he's too loud, constantly angry, so you can really only edit him to be angry, and fluent sentence mixing is difficult. It's interesting that OrpheusFTW's CopperCab YTPs are some of the few great one out there. I guess it's a testament to his skill. If there are any others out there that are funny, feel free to post them.

Oh, in addition:
>The premise on that is fantastic- "find funny things on Amazon, make Billy Mays advertise them." Innovative, and funny to boot.
Absolutely, dozens of videos could be made on that alone.
>>32
>yet most YTPs that I have seen with him are terrible.
That's actually not entirely true, MANY, not most, I have see with him are terrible, as in a disproportionate amount in relation to other sources.

f80764 No.34

>>32
Honestly, I liked those, but I don't really find 'em that funny. The first one gets more chuckles outta me because it's a coherent rap verse- I guess I've just heard too many YTPMVs in the style of the second one, although it's much better musically.

You hit the nail on the head with CopperCab, including the part about low-quality poops coming from him. I think particularly young kids are likelier to choose him because they really think yelling is funny, no matter what.

Familiar with ChemistryGuy? He's part of the neo-DaThings1 movement, the one that's unafraid to use reversing and stuttering even though it's 2014. His best videos are more like OrpheusFTW, though, although some of them are so inspired that I can't even pin a proper influence on 'em. He's one of the greatest at the moment, IMO. Here's a video!

I have seen some of ChemistryGuy's older stuff, but I am not too familiar with his newer videos. The one you posted is very funny and eclectic, he does a great job of integrating all of the sources together cohesively.

Ah yes, DaThings1, showing that you don't need profanity and sex jokes to make YTPs funny. Even though I am a huge fan of Michael Rosen YTPs, despite how overused that source is, it is very nice to have YTPs from a wide variety of sources.

Two of my favorites:

Both excellent choices, although I think DaThings is best in his "Year Of"s. He cuts out almost all the bullshit and in general improves most of the jokes.

It's 22 minutes, so, yeah.

I thought The Price is Rice was some of his best work in ages.

Oh man I really really like this first one. There's like no pitch shifting or repetition the guy is just talking in rhythm (I guess its rapping then) with sentence mixing. this sounds really really catchy. the sentence mixing is funny, but honestly im enjoying how satisfying this is to hear more

Dice rollRolled 1 (1d1)

I love it when elements in the background are edited separately from the main action, or it's implied that folks from one shot are doing something independently once they're off-stage, through audio. It really makes projects feel lively and gives a strange sense of credibility to any reinterpreted continuity. Like the suit-flapping in the video mentioned in the OP.

Useful in cheap gags of someone talking or making some repetitive noise, followed by a cut to nearby characters, with the noise still going at a slightly lower volume, as in Skooks 1, 1:40.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWlKr4seJ-0&t=1m40s

Even in what could be considered the less creative aspects of video-makin', there are ways to make things interesting. It seems like there are four categories or margins in which to do most things, including general timing, framing a shot and when to cut a shot or scene:

The conventional, acceptable and expected, where editing follows the rhythm of the content. There's usually a few distinct possibilities to choose from, depending on the desired effect, be it a smooth transition or a deliberate interruption.

The overt flouting of conventions and doing things as incorrectly as possible, which often comes off as too obvious an attempt to do things wrong; this can lead to an undesirable 'trying to hard' impression, especially when it's applied to multiple facets of editing at the same time.

The completely nonsensical, where things seem to happen on a whim, occasionally right, occasionally wrong, often in between. Without rhyme or reason, things just happen.

And then there's breaking the rules just a little. Just slightly stepping outside of those boundaries, hanging onto scenes just a little bit too long, having zooms and pans meander off the expected final destination or reach it a little too soon and just stop. Having absolutely everything feel a little off, but executed with enough confidence to ward off any ambiguity that the end goal might not have been the intended result.

The glue that is conventional editing finds use everywhere, so it's not really worth mentioning too much, and going as directly against the grain is often the mainstay of projects concentrating on sensory overload and earrape, as a cheap way to get more bang out of one's BRRBGRBMSHHHFFFFFFF, by having it appear and change character at an unpredictable rate.

I think LUIGI IS RACIST encompasses the last two quite well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSpUkE5CE2s

It's simple, it's not clever with its content, but so much of it feels… off, in such a bizarre way. Its principle joke just cuts through everything as if it has a mind of its own, and most of the little editing and repetition gags just drone on for a little too long or just don't 'click' right.

I'm thinking of writing a long-form examination of Dikekike/KroboProduction's YTP history. His style of editing, source usage, and implication of story/character establishment is underappreciated. Like >>181 says, YTPs where there's an implied history of actions for characters are some of the most interesting, and I think Krobo's a master at that. Every Captain Rescue YTP he's done reinterprets or reveals a new facet of the character that impacts how one views that episode's fiction.

An example of this approach (for a one-off) would be "robots" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRiJdDIKrs8), where he takes one of Kyle Mooney's cringe videos and gives "Kyle" dignity to lie beneath how pathetic he is. Krobo both mocks the source's transitions between scenes, using clip art and oiramapap-style inserts (a family watching TV with a tiger inside, or a gorilla pug randomly showing up—playing off the character's incompetence/tastelessness), but also lets Kyle serenade the robot with a catchy tune. Kyle's agitated and lonely, perhaps because his interview subjects are speaking on a different wavelength (represented by the vibrato edit) before seeming to speak normal. This video's mean sometimes, like when it cuts Kyle's neverthoughgouhtreoughgouhtre off for comic effect. Without giving us any history for the character, though, and by titling the video with a generic keyword, Krobo implies that Kyle's on this futile mission to get people maybe as disoriented as he is to discuss "robots". This ultimately doesn't lead to much; the digital zoom onto the black man's face shows him bewildered yet polite enough to nod after hearing Kyle babble on at the last booth. Meanwhile the stereotypical teen YouTube viewer (don't know the real person's name, but Krobo loves to reference YT users) is shown cringing, but we can guess that's just the reaction Kyle expects and that Krobo would highlight for laughs. The interviewer's trip is sincere but he isn't given credence by those around him, largely because everyone else has a mission at the trade show.

This video's an example of Krobo adopting the superficial look of the source and subtly (or not so subtly) warping it, without flashy gimmicks, to make the story more beautiful. Kyle ends up a palindromic emotional wreck by the end, and we can see it coming, but he's funny and seems to have a personal way of doing things we can't see in public. I love how I didn't know exactly what the source was like in terms of style until Krobo did the cringe joke at the end—he does this for the benefit of context, but also to clarify the expected reaction that viewers may or may not have. Given all the previous efforts put into developing Kyle's character, I feel Krobo is ultimately making fun of those who disallow themselves sympathy,or at least being cool with someone doing cringe-y things. The author finds a much less linear way of telling the original video's story, too. Krobo used to do more disconnected, skit-format videos that were meant to confuse, show off small jokes he'd cooked up, or simulate the feel of flipping through bizarre TV channels in a deranged state. I think over time he's continued to go after the emotions that approach can generate, just with a more point-to-point structure, often like that of a sitcom episode (Fesh Pince and some Friendship is Gic).

Not much to say that isn't apparent in the video itself, but perfect timing, and exactly the right amount of ear rape.
