about this
>>206Q: I saw your routine with my colleagues. To be honest the half of them were crying in this moment. Tell me please, are you sceptic or you give the way for emotions?
A: I give the way for emotions. Often. I have the tears of joy, tears of sorrow... Pile of emotions.

>>412Thanks for the translations. I don't think Putin will succeed as a comedian and Yulia is forcing a polite laugh and doesn't seem to enjoy being touched by him. Besides, "hold the line" is something we would say in American football! Was he trying to make a hockey joke?
Yes, Yulia is a very emotional performer and I admire her for not being afraid to show them.

Q: Is there something for what you can give all of you trophies
A: No, I never give all my trophies... so... there are no this things.

Yulia speaks about presented apartment: Whene we come back from show we were handed the warrant to view the apartment... so... we could go antd look for it... good district. But it is a social housing... and... so... middling. We went to look. So a good district, we liked it. We decided not to show off and accepted the offer. And they said "yes we confirmed, we will tell you the price". So, it looks like we have to buy it. Though I was promised that it will be a present. As I know you should not to pay for a present... It was a bit unexpected.

About popularisation of skating: It begins very active... Everything what's happen around me. There are on a skating-rink... Within a kilometer aroun "Crystal" you can't even to park, because a lot of babies arriving. Eberybody on the car... This is not real.
1:25
Q: Do you feel your contribution?
A: Yes.
1:30
Q: There are a lot of anime-pictures with you in the internet. Japans do love you. What do you think about it?
A: I like it very much :3
Q: Did you see yourself? Maybe a clip or cartoon.
A: As I know there are one cartoon. That's cool! They draw cool things, I like it.

>>411I just watched this. What an amazing girl and interesting life story. She is so deep, intense and philosophical at such a young age, yet she is also soft and vulnerable and still very much a little girl. I know she is 16 now and probably dating boys and is developing into a young woman. I hope her hormones don't make her crazy and influence her to quit skating because it seems that she's had some doubts and temptation to quit in the past.
She is truly like an artist or a ballerina on ice. I didn't realize her routines, movements and facial expressions had so much meaning in conveying a story and portraying a character's emotions and actions.
She's very lucky to have such a talented team around her who are sensitive to her age, her personality, and her moods. I hope they all stay together and that Yulia continues to perfect her art. She could truly become the greatest skater ever if she possesses enough motivation and inspiration to push herself to her limits and beyond. But getting too emotionally involved with a boyfriend could possibly ruin everything. It's probably better for her not to get involved with guys until after she retires. But hormones at that age make girls do crazy things.
Anyway, thanks for sharing that link. I'm sure I'll watch it again.
No.428
>>417It's ridiculous that the government would trick Yulia and her mom with a "bait and switch" in offering a "gift" and then expecting them to buy it. Well, at least she got a free car...or did they make her buy that too?
It's good that she enjoys all the attention and the anime, etc. Is she still popular in Japan or do people forget everything once the Olympics are over?
Thanks for the translations, bro!
No.431
>>427She doesn't have a bf and has never had one before either, far too busy training. Her mother has apparently banned her from seeing any boys until she is older and I doubt Eteri would be ok with it she is very demanding, in a good way though. In pretty much every picture of her in her free time she is with her mother or coach, she seems like a bit of a loner tbh, doesn't have many friends she hangs out with in person just the people she trains with. Everything I've seen about her makes it seem like she is 100% dedicated to her sport.
>>428After she mentioned/complained in the media about having to buy the appartment the authorities claimed it was a misunderstanding so she got it for free. It didn't make her very popular with some Russian people though since there are alot of people who can't afford homes and she's complaining about not getting one for free.
No.432
>>431I don't mean to seem like a stereotype because I'm personally a minimalist, non-materialist American, but I'll just say that if Yulia was American she would be drowning in money right now with multiple book, movie, tv and corporate endorsement deals financing her ocean view estate, not some glorified commieblock that the authorities tried to trick her into buying after offering it as a gift. How do they even live? Does she earn a salary as a skater? Who finances her career? Seems like her mom isn't earning income either. I think Yulia needs a good business manager to help her capitalize on her popularity, so that after she retires she can do whatever she wants without worrying about money. Seems like there's no one currently in her life qualified to do that for her.
I'm glad she's not dating anyone because it would cause problems for her career which is more important for her right now. However, I don't want her to feel lonely or to be without a good group of supportive friends to have fun with. Maybe that's why she's so attached to her animals.
No.433
>>432Yulia seems to hate everything about being famous, even that photoshoot she did for elle. She seemed to enjoy the shoot but then part of the deal was a meet and greet/signing session and she looked miserable as hell. She complains all the time about intrusive media.
After the olympics she went to a party thrown by a famous russian socialite, her coach and mother decided to let her go alone, she was there about 5mins before asking the host(on camera) when she could leave, when asked about it she said everyone there was just about celebrity and not about sport. It remains the one party/awards show she has been to. It's part of the reason she is so popular online, she is awkward as hell and completely uncomfortable anywhere but on the ice.
Although I'm sure she wouldn't say no to the sponsorship money I'm certain part of the reason she doesn't have a whole load of deals is because she hates the attention and the work that would go along with it. Adelina Sotnikova, another gold medallist from Sochi, has done a lot of magazines and she is less popular around the world than Yulia, so it seems to me that it's a deliberate choice.
As far as salary goes I think they get funding from the Russian ice skating federation and whatever she wins, when coaches have been given a share. I think if you win a top level even it's only $30,000 so she isn't exactly loaded. Although she does go on expensive summer holidays so there is clearly a good income from somewhere, she is one of the elite russian athletes.

Q: So you came back after Olimpycs, do you see how people look to you? Maybe they look with open mouth or enviously?
A: You are walking down the corridor and always hear shouts like - THIS IS YULIA LIPNITSKAYA!
Q: But you have a character, what's your reaction for this?
A: No reaction.
Q: Just passing by?
A: Yes!
1:06
Q: There are craziness in social networks, you have thousands of subscribers.
A: I didn't see how much. I think it's about 300 thousands.
Q: 300?
A: Thousands.
Q: 300 thousands?
A: Maybe 305.
Q: I should say! Do you have a special person to manage this?
A: No. But I verified my page. I don't add somebody now at all because if I add someone I will hurt other 300 thosands. That's
why I add people who I know personally.
Q: Do guys intrude for acquaintance?
A: Everybody write me in VK [russian clone of FB], but I don't care:)
1:41
Q: We came to gym not accidentally. You practice here.
A: At the end of the day only. We have a cool down here.
Q: What is cool down?
A: After the training during 45 minutes we have running or bicycle or ski...
Q: And barbell?
A: No, I don't do this.
Q: And how fast do you run on theadmill? Come on, set the pace of Yulia Lipnitskaya and I will..
A: Not fast on the treadmill...
Q: Why not fast?
A: Because it's a cooldown. If it's fast it is a functional train.
2:19
Q: OK, may I try?
A: Yes.
Q: Like Yulia Lipnitskaya... mom! Ok, 45 minutes, what do you do in this 45 minutes?
A: I'm running.
Q: I understood but you may die. 45 minutes. Maybe you listen to the music or...
A: Yes, music. I can watch a film.
Q: They say that you like Eminem. Why Eminem?
A: I don't know. Once upon I heard some songs and liked it.
Q: So you know english?
A: Very poor. Mostly I don't understand the meaning.
Q: And what if he screw you? And you listen him.
A: So, when I'm singing I say "screw you" for him too.
Q: OK. Advice from Yulia Lipnitskaya. What I should watch or download?
A: ...Shindler's List.
Q: Shindler's List? Ok, that's it. You are running and watching Shindler's List.
A: I don't know, I can't give an advice. I like Intouchables 1+1.
Q: So we can expect that the next music for your programm will be the music from 1+1?
A: We still thinking about it. How it will be, to do the mix. It shouldn't be boring.
Q: And have you ever tried to skate to Eminem?
A: No, not yet :) I can take it for show.
3:33
Q: How do the stretching, warm-up of Yulia Lipnitskaya begins?
A: If I need to do it fast I can stand in all of this main...
Q: Let's do it fast. All "this".
A: I don't know... Forward... To the side... backward. That's all, I warmed-up, I'm going away.
Q: Some exercise that I can do everyday.
A: I think you should go there.
Q: There... What's next? Oh, I can higher. By the way I can do it!
A: Yes, that's OK. Bend here, bend there. The same with another leg.
Q: And what I have to do to lift my leg totally? What? What exercise?
A: Yeah... The splits.
Q: And how do you splits? Show me please... Just like that? Aaaghr! Wnen did you split the first time?
A: As I remember I could do it always. They said that I will have some problems at the age of 14.
Q: No?
A: A lot of gossips... No. That's OK still. I can do it the same. It does not become harder.
Q: What about you plans for the closest future?
A: World Champ. Totally closest. And we never look too far.

>>428Don't worry, that's ok now. On the next day after that press-conference they promised that it will be a present and they wouldn't take money. And they kept the promise. By the way the other company presented for Yulia another appartment. But it is slill building. Also she has a vacation home. Not bad, if you remember that less than 1 year ago they had a money only to rent a small appartment.
>>432> Does she earn a salary as a skater? She has a prize-money for competitions. Something about $20K for winning on the Grand-Prix. But she has an earning enough for live only last year. Recently she was under the maintenance of russian skatig federation. And after Olympycs she had a good award from government. It's about $250K summary. And a car. This is not bad money, but Moscow is very expensive city, you need about $300K to buy a small used appartment.

Y: I want to say "big thanks" for guys... I just... When I was a kid I wanted to buy... ask my mom to buy a glass-table to practice it, because I saw somewhere a broadcast when I was 6. I wanted too but hands haven't reached to it. And after so many years they draw me though it's not drawing, I don't know how it calls. This is cool.
0:39
About hometown
Y: Since I came here last time a year has passed. Fewer but whatever. There are Ural winter, I see it's ok [laughing] I clearly see that I'm home. Moscow is more habitually for me but here [in Ekateringurg] everything is native. My flat was near the embankment. And the rink not far away, it's about 10 minutes on foot. And I always walked there on my foot, the most native place for me.
1:16
About glory
Y: It was horrible. Everything was... Too much attention, it rolls over. And it is continuing now.
Journalist: Yes, we see.
Y: I'm trying to be used to it, but I think everybody need to calm down, the season is over. And all this attention... [long pause] nullify it. I didn't want to talk with press because it's my own business. I arrived with personal affairs. We didn't advertise when I'll come. Our flight didn't delay for 5 hours, as you have written. I have arrived with personal affairs, and I don't want to do it with press. Everything surrounds me is so active. There are on a skating-rink... You can't even park your car within a kilometer of "Crystal" because a lot of babies are arriving. Everybody on the car... This is not real.
[Next part is from that
>>417 video.]
3:22
About plans.
Y: To be the first on the Worlds, not the second. I would like Euro... It would not excess if I win Nationals. But there are some people, some great sportsmen who never was russian champion, and it's ok, they live perfect. But I will try, of course. [Yulia never won nationals because of Adelina Sotnikova. The ugliest moment is Rus Natiolas 11/12 when judges gave to Adelina some crazy numbers for components, the second score. It was about 20 or 25 points more than her average scores in the season. So Yulia had the second place, scoring 191.65 and Adelina won with 193.71 So I like how ironic she was at that moment on press-conference.]
3:42
Advice for woman
Y: More than half... More than half of a half products that I cannot eat. If everybody had trains and loads like I have... so it would be hard to put on weight.

00:50
[ABOUT HOLIDAYS]
Yulia: We have 2 weeks in summer to go to the seaside, to go where we want, and it'll be the same this season
01:02
Elle: Yulia has a quite different image today, we completely went away from sports and decided to use these petite, very girlish dresses, pastelle colours, flower prints, applications, laces;everything is very feminine, very light and airy
01:25
[ABOUT VICTORIES]
Yulia: I don't really pay attention to score, to everything, the major goal is to skate
01:35
Elle: As for the hairstyle and make-up we decided to keep the most natural look, she has careless curly hair and maximum light make-up

As the well-informed Brit at
>>433 already mentioned, she isn't really into fashion and that shooting came with the obligation to be part of a autograph session (where she literally died). I don't like those heavily photoshopped glamour pictures with her either, she's much more a natural girl, not exactly the icon for girls of her age.
It's kinda obvious she only does those chores for money.

It's like two people sitting next to you and constantly chattering during a dramatic scene in a movie, commenting on what great actors they are, how long they prepared for their roles, how amazing the costumes and movie sets look, sharing an interesting anecdote about the director, etc...just STFU and let me listen and watch!!!
Unfortunately, there isn't a selective mute button for these events where you can silence the commentators, but still hear the music.

She already struggles with the fame so I hope she takes a little while to adjust rather than damage her potential. In a few years I think she might branch out a little more though when she is more mature and able to juggle her public and private life better.
No.764
>>760Those tennis players are extremely overrated, figure skating isn't nearly comparable and not really a thing outside of Russia, thus the sponsorship interest is rather low.
Regarding tennis, in particular smug people with money have interest in that sport, while FS is very affordable, in Russia at least.
Just compare the top tier trophy money of both sports - several million $ vs. hardly 20k $.
And as we already discussed several times ITT, Yulia isn't that type of person for blatant PR events, galas and similar product placements.
Just look how unhappy she looks here, trying hard to feign happiness:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecRdTbFWtlM&t=1m30s(that event where she asked in front of the camera how long she has to stay)
Just imagine how she'd feel if she left her country, all her friends, her family etc. behind, while barely speaking any English and being exposed to a totally different,
much more superficial culture. This would be utter alienation, and even if you see it differently as a capitalist, no money is worth that struggle.
No.766
>>764Keep in mind that in America, $5 million a year in endorsement money is pocket change. Even after Tiger Woods' dramatic fall from grace and the loss of many sponsors, he still managed to pull in $65 million in endorsements this year. Whether or not Yulia wants to chase after money and fame is one thing, and it's obvious that at this stage she's shying away from it, but that doesn't negate the fact that the opportunity is there for her if she wanted to reach out and grab it.
It has nothing to do with whether or not a culture is superficial or who is a capitalist or not. The opportunity which is there for her is a simple fact of reality.
No.767
>>764Also, forgot to mention that she wouldn't necessarily need to leave her country, family, friends and all that other dramatic stuff you mentioned. She could simply authorize several book deals, license her name to a line of clothing/cosmetic/perfume/sporting goods, etc. Any good business manager and PR firm would quickly size up their client's personality and preferences and tailor an endorsement package around what they want and can handle. It's really not that difficult when you have the right connections and can finance new projects to get the ball rolling.
Just associating your name to a product can have incredible results:

>>760Nah, look at Plushenko, he sells his crap all over the world, he didn't have to change country for that. Besides the biggest market for figure skating is Japan, not US, so if you're selling out to the highest bidder, that bidder would surely be Japan. But there's no need for it really. Top athletes are rich anyway. Again, look at Plushenko, he lives like a goddamn king.
No.769
>>768The article is confusing as it shows potential earnings based on Yuna Kim, who I don't think moved to America to make the most of her name so it's kind of stupid. As you say the biggest markets for figure skating are europe and asia, Plushenko is great at self promotion and isn't anything like Yulia but she could easily get a healthy fraction of what he gets just by doing very little.
