 No.1646

I have this friend who owns an adorable, slightly pudgy (but toally huggable) yellow labrador. I've never been able to get a dog for myself, so this has left quite a large hole in my heart. Due to this, I love this dog so much, and pet it heaps whenever I come over.
Although I'd never try anything with it because none of my friends have any idea I'm interested in animals.

I understand that being a zoophile is, by definition, creepy/strange, but is it weird that I kept and brought home some of the fur it shed?

i'd say it's odd and if anyone found out they'd be very weirded out, but hey it's not hurting anyone, and i doubt the dog would mind, so don't worry about it. smell is after all the most strongly linked sense to memory, so i think it's kinda sweet actually. a little something to remind you of him/her.

but srsly, why dock the tail on a lab?

My dog is a yellow lab/king shepherd mix and looks just like that, except much bigger. I would never want to have his tail docked like that.

Done properly, it happens not long after birth.

If it's a working dog, you might expect that the dew claws would be removed, too.

My rural friends tell me that a long tail is a disadvantage to a working dog, and has the capacity to cause problems, which docking helps solve.

So, kind of like circumcision really. A choice made by those responsible for the creature, and it really gets on some folk's tits.

Sometimes people dock tails when the dog has broken it multiple times. It's ultimately easier for the dog to just get it shortened rather than have it never set properly. The length of the OP is typically what people go for when that happens.

Heavy boned dogs are more prone to this. They wag their fat tails excitedly, and they end up breaking when they hit objects. I've met multiple undocked rottweiler and mastiff that had this happen.

That's a show lab, not a working lab. Also, taking off dew claws of a working lab is a really shitty trend. They're important for retrieving.

that dog's tail isn't docked you fucking retards, it's just short/thick

not to mention, show dog handlers trim the fur on the end of it to make it look more blunt, because in the breed standard they're supposed to have an "otter-like tail"
