Sometimes the owner takes the dog themselves when the dog retires or lets an organization adopt them out. I wonder if you could get "in the middle" there and go directly to an owner and say you're interested in their dog. You'd probably have to do it ahead of time, like express interest in 'adopting' (I don't like using that word lol) the dog before it's time for him to retire. I think it would be kind of cool to own an actual racing dog who competed, but they don't usually live at home with the owner unless they're close to a track. I have no idea if racing breeders would sell pups to someone who doesn't intend to race, but information seems hard to find online. I was reading on the National Greyhound Association's website, they say many breeders advertise in the NGA magazine, The Greyhound Review. So if you wanted to look for a racing line dog, I assume that would be the first step. There are AKC breeders around and they would probably be easier to get a dog from, but there aren't very many of them. There are lots of racing dogs every year, I guess the tricky part would actually be figuring out how to get one! I might look into it more when I'm ready to bring home another dog.
