Sup /zoo.

Once I'm done slaving away to get my bachelor's (I guess you could call me a young-blood) and live in a real house/apartment/whatever, I want to have a dog - maybe 2. Male dogs of course, for reasons.

I would kidnap my parents' dog (read: my childhood dog, living with/cared for by them), but even if he did live long enough for me to graduate (he's old and probably won't make it that long - heartbreaking, really), he's fixed and that limits our sexual contact to him bottoming (which he loves BTW) or him eating me out.

So with all that, how do you guys/gals suggest getting an intact male pup without having to jump through a shit-ton of hoops? I'd adopt a shelter dog, but from what I remember most/all shelters require dogs to be neutered when they're adopted. Looking at CL yields dumbfuck breeders that apparently make you sign some spay/neuter contract.

What do you all suggest?

Pic related because dog balls.

Try looking in the paper or something or ask around for some family whose dog had puppies. As you say it's hard as fuck to get a 'professional' breeder to sell a non neutered animal.

One of my family's dogs was bought non-fixed without any influence from me anyway or intent to find one. So it is possible.

First and foremost- do not get any animal until you are in a living situation where you can properly house and care for it.

Reputable breeders will sell intact animals (male and female) as "limited registration", meaning any offspring they produce will not be recognized in the family bloodline. They may question you about your intent to spay/neuter so be prepared with a good answer. (If they do not have any relevant health or behavior issues, then why mutilate them).

You can also find many intact animals on CL in need of good homes. They will most likely come from less than ideal conditions so be prepared to do a lot of work with them adjusting, love and kindness go a long way but obedience classes train both the dog and the owner.

I'm fairly sure that you can sit down with one of those Craigslist breeders (or whoever else) about how the purpose of neutering is to prevent unwanted puppies, and that you don't want to alter the dog's behavior or health by changing his hormonal state. Most vets will perform a vasectomy on a dog for the exact same cost as a neutering as it's a simple procedure. Ask the person if they will accept this method of sterilization as fulfilling the neuter requirement. If they're not a complete idiot, they will do so.

Oh, and obviously don't get two male dogs, especially two intact males; are you fucking insane?? Supposing you get an apartment/whatever big enough to comfortably house two large dogs, the best situation for you would be an intact male and a spayed female. The male will probably still attempt to hump at the female, but she won't take any of that nonsense and will keep him in line without any real risk of fighting. This will also make him a lot hornier and he'll want to fuck you even more than he already would.

But seriously, don't get two male dogs, especially if they're intact, and DOUBLE especially if you're going to fuck them. They will literally attempt to fight to the death over who gets the right to breed with you, and there isn't anything obedience training can do to stop it.

I have no experience with this myself, but I think CL is your best bet. Try to find a family that had an accidental litter and wants to find homes for the puppies. I know zoos who have found their partner this way, for dirt cheap. It's not ideal, but then again what about being a zoo is ideal, right?

If you are willing to shell out a few thousand dollars you can always look into buying a show dog from a breeder. As most kennel clubs disqualify neutered dogs, they will remain intact. Some breeds of working dogs (GSD, border collie, etc.) are sometimes left intact so that their behavior during work does not change.

Good luck and keep us in the loop please. I'd like to know how this plays out.
