It's not like I have faith in our infinite fail overloads, but the technical stuff will get sorted and it's low importance on a public-only board compared to a dedicated zoophilia site failure.

It's not clear, they say "all content will be lost" but it's not clear if it refers to images only, or images and text posts. Might as well assume it's both.

Josh is trying to fix a fatal flaw with the server, running a million tests, and in the last days it hasn't been looking good (he said if he can't fix it they might scrap infinite next and 8ch could bite the dust, worst case).

Just wait it out.

All I ever wanted was a simple unmoderated public zoo board on a diverse hub. This is the kind of incompetence you hope to avoid by being on a hub in the first place.

That's what happen when you use the beta server/db as production stuff. I mean, there was really no way to convert 8ch db into beta db, daily import/merge new 8ch posts, try if beta is stable enough until the final switch when everything pass all tests? As you said, it's not their first migration, haven't they learned from their last difficult attempt?

There was a resource limitation, but it was still a predictable testing failure.

They came up with the decent compromise of migrating individual boards (in batches) but it all got tossed with the bathwater.

It hurts to know one of the few decent sites left (policy-wise) I care to browse is a technological disaster.

I don't much understand, it's not like the current incarnation of 8ch is very demanding, hardware wise, it's just throwing out rather basic html pages 90s computers were able to as well. Sure there might be throwing alot more than in the 90s, but that's where scalable architecture comes into mind. Now the beta was rather annoying with all its fancy stuffs popping all around ajax style. Gosh, we're just looking for a simple board, not facebook or anything else even more shiny. Like Josh said, 2ch installation is rather enough because 2ch is not really demanding, just a huge ram cache. We are not demanding either, otherwise we've all moved elsewhere already. But like you said, policy-wise there's only a few place left in this word of freedom of speech.

As far as I could tell it's not like they were adding insidious shit like reddit threads and stupid forum features (correct me if I'm wrong, cause if they did that might change my opinion).

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with the current software. They just said they can't integrate it with caching and scaling for whatever reason, and obviously the front page caching is all fucked up.

Keeping it simple is overwhelmingly the way to go (and not only for chans), and one of the reasons is it's supposed to be easier to implement and maintain. So I don't get what road you have to take to get it this fucked up. Sure there's scaling but nobody mistakes 8chan for twitter.
