So yeah, all in all Ozpin amounted to a garbage character for how he's supposed to be a subversion of the wise mentor man with secrets ala Dumbledore.

See:

>melodrama happens to make kids turn on you

>Running away after some kids and a manchild whine at you

>Have no contingency plan for your minions going out of control, not even plotting to steal the relic out from under them.

It's embarrassingly obvious they were trying to throw a bone to all the fans who were saying Oz was a secret villain but wouldn't go all the way with it. The kids and manbaby didn't turn on Ozpin over him covering up Lionheart's treachery, not over him putting civilians at risk, but over him not going around yelling Salem can't be killed by mortals.

93273a  No.37671

>>37669

Well, that'd be a good argument except… Ozpin did nothing wrong.

>he's supposed to be a subversion of the wise mentor man with secrets ala Dumbledore

It's been a long time since I read one of those but afaik, Dumbledore kept his work a secret because he knew about the connection Harry and Voldemort shared. Any information dumped in Harry would end up in Voldemort.

With Ozpin is different because there's no connection so far. However, the bombshell that is that the greatest enemy of mankind can't be killed is worth to be kept secret to not demoralize your troops. What's the point of fighting a startfish on stereoids?

>melodrama happens to make kids turn on you

Writers fault for not coming up with anything better

>Running away after some kids and a manchild whine at you

It would've been great if he did as another anon suggested; taunt them, dare them to try and beat their asses. Anyways, from this point of view, Ozpin fucked them good by not even attempting to help with Cordovin.

>Have no contingency plan for your minions going out of control

Maybe the only brain fart the retarded duo can be proud of. By their writing, Ozpin believed his men to understand the gravity of the situation

<We are holding hands when daddy comes back home or all of us are vaporized

Still, the fear of Salem killing them first changed their minds

And as Ozpin was becoming more and more used to only work in his academy, he stopped caring about all the other people that wanted to help, leaving them exposed Salem

> Who

Voice actor for Qrow, and several anime dubs. Not important aside from who he interacts with. Allegedly strong christian beliefs, may have voted for Trump.

> What Happened

Has been accused of sexually harassing female fans. While the exact origin is getting harder to find due to other accusations coming out of the wood work, nearly all of them are turning out as hearsay, without evidence, or proven to be fabricated.

Despite this, many places are dropping him. Several other dub VAs are also throwing him under the bus (supporting stories despite later being proven fake, etc.

Vic has allegedly taken up legal advice, but we don't know where this will go.

> What Next

Dig into what's going on. Spread the truth, forward it to his lawyer (if he has one), and make it clear that a mob will be met with facts instead of being able to freely trample over someone just because they believed what they read on the internet. Let him have his day in court.

Some info was discussed in the Season 6 discussion thread:

>>37468

I'll attempt to repost it here.

> Why

Not because he worked on RWBY, not because he was one of the few good VAs on RWBY, but because he may be an innocent man who is suffering due to libel and slander.

This is to discuss RT as a company. Who they are, where they are likely to go, what sort of people work for them, and what the companies goals are.

RT is owned by Otter Media (who also own Crunchyroll. Strange that was never disclosed by either party).

Otter Media is owned by AT&T and some investor & businessman called "Peter Chernin".

Peter sits on the board at Twitter, owns majority stake in "Barstool Sports" (a group not afraid to be left-leaning and accusing people of being neo-nazis)- gave over $100,000 to the Democrats, and hosted Obama in his home for a fundraiser, and a producer of the new Planet of the Apes films.

Literally so much about RT makes sense.

Lets not forget that RT is in the heart of Austin- and it shows. Most of their staff is quite left leaning (with a few people that come across as so relaxed- maybe they're keeping their mouths shut or just don't care). They even promoted some game at RTX that was basically AntiFa simulator (RIOT: Civil Unrest IIRC), and Yang's VA has gone on public record & made it clear at conventions she believes the "pussy grabbing" mudslinging.

I disavow and condemn any post encouraging harassment, doxxing, or any actions deemed illegal in the USA.

If you see posts violating the rules of the board and law of the US- please report it.

Embedded video is not an official RT upload, and is only related to show how Burnie interacts with others. (former Chief executive officer, current chief creative officer- used to be the company boss, now he's the creative team's boss)

I decided to take a look of the rabbit hole that is the "RWBY critique community" and holy fuck these people.

Half of the time these niggas don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

>Monty's weightless and lifeless animations are good!

>But the new seasons have such garbage animation!

I'd say Monty's animations are less shit than the ones we have now, but it doesn't mean it has no flaws onto them. It's like that thing where women would have uglier/fatter women next to them to trick others into thinking that they are pretty.

Some of the shit they complain about feels like nitpicking at times- but that might be because they have such an unbearable tone in their voices and its hard to listen to what they are saying.

But one thing that stuck out is that these guys seem notorious even in community sites like Reddit, Youtube, Twitter etc. Is it just rabid fans who don't like criticism or are the critics genuinely are crazy, or both? I only glanced at a few comments.

Like this video here

https://hooktube.com/watch?v=yQhsvkEfg3w

I don't know anything about this guy. Hell, I don't even know anyone that's e-famous in the RWBY fanbase other than Mojojo and AlphaJaune (that guy who made the RWBY abridged series when S1 first aired), and I don't know anything personal about them either. Some of his points were fine (like the lesbo pandering of lgbtbbq) but I feel like he's bitching about it not for the sake of the show or critique, but because HE doesn't like it and he's throwing a tantrum about a ship he hates.

I didn't watch the whole thing because it's essentially a 40min video of a manchild whining about some anime cartoon but choice moments were:

>25:04 bitches about Rooster Teeth not improving or taking criticism well throughout the video, proceeds to cry like a bitch immediately after when someone calls him a faggot

>hell one of them gave some sPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I remember there is a way to get them back but only the board admin can do it.

At least extract the html code or the text and rebuild the thread with whatever useful thing he can find.

>Doesn't matter.

My point there was that I don't see the point criticizing the critiques. So they have an annoying voice, they call each other names, it's another day on the eternal debate, so what? They can do it. You can too.

>25:04 bitches about Rooster Teeth not improving or taking criticism well throughout the video, proceeds to cry like a bitch immediately after when someone calls him a faggot

How is calling someone a faggot criticism?

It's just calling him a faggot. From where in that sentence anyone is supposed to draw ways to improve or change?

>hell one of them gave some solid advice for him

>but he puts the comment in the 'toxic fandom showcase' because it wasn't worded kindly enough along with the others

r/rwby: "Only worship RWBY and their mighty creators Miles and Kerry! Three times a day before you go to sleep!"

r/rwby: "Monty is the messiah when we need it, any other time he's the false prophet that wasn't that good of a writer either!"

Threadly reminder that bumblebee got mixed with women's day and made Glynda die.

He's not wrong about just scrolling and finding shit out of place either. Pics related grabbed minutes ago from this day. No need for digging.

I'm not a fucking prune but if the sexual tension is killing them so bad why not rub one out and come back when they can think on something that isn't "how can I draw something suggestive between these guys?"

Just get it out of your system. Why everything has to be about placing characters in situations where you want them to bang, all the time?

>They are. They have punching, kicking and shooting.

But it still lacks animation fundamentals that ruin those actions- any action/movement the characters make. I'll say that I don't know jack shit about fight choreography and I'm just getting used to knowing the fundamentals right now, but in art (and most likely other subjects) its absolutely necessary to demonstrate your fundamental steps before you can get into the details.

When people move, their bodies motion against gravity. Even when the body is still, there is still implications of gravity (feet being squashed slightly on the ground, muscles working with and against it). Almost all of animation will mimic the basic gravity that exists in our world. This is one of the fundamentals to know when animating characters.

The goal of animation in general is to make it believable. Pic related is a snippet from the beginning parts of Animator's Survival Kit that explains this well. In general , animations need believably in their world rather than realism. In order to do that, people study anatomy and how it moves and why it moves like that and apply it to their fictional characters. Looking at anime and cartoons, if there are characters jumping and flying up 10 ft up in the sky, there's still a sense of force occurring in their movements.

This is just one part of Monty's bad direction/animation btw, there's other problems in there like composition and bad color relationships with the objects/backgrounds in each scenes. He's not the worst animator in the world, but he isn't good.

So you can have all of the flashy, cool 5 sec. movements in your whole 8 min fight scene, but without that fundamental knowledge of motion then every single thing in that scene, and even your whole show/movie will fall apart.

In drawing terms, this will be like those pictures that follow coloring tutorials in attempts to make your drawings look pretty- but if you can't draw, its a bad picture no matter what you do. (Which was why many western artists drew bad deviantart anime bPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>Read it all.

I stand by my opinion. What, as a consumer, have I got from these animators following da rulez?

Almost nothing.

Monty moves everything, little to no commentary, music in tone and it is a beating.

Current BC interrupts the fight (like in s6 Cinder vs Neo, RWBY vs Cordovin, Ruby vs Leviathan, s4 RNJR vs Fluffy, s6 Yang and Blake vs Adam, s5 RWBY vs Hazel (worst of them all).

All of them could be fights had they not paused them to deliver unnecessary, corny, edgy lines. Or long useless sentimental scenes with dramatic music pulled out of mexican stories.

Anon, I respect that you want to follow the book. But if the book means that I'm not getting jack, I'll prefer Monty's mediocrity, because within his mediocrity, I got entertained. I got fights that feel like fights. I am not here to go frame by frame to study their technique, then give them my opinion, I'm here to look at the product of their technique and then give them my opinion.

I'm alright with Torchwick not being a more blatant big bad wolf since you know RT would've made it too obvious. He would've been the RWBY equivalent to those fat bald bastards in doujins.

8b9429  No.37556

>>37282

While it's a tenable comparison (more or less. I personally don't see it) but as you said, nothing really indicates Roman is compared to the wolf from the LRRH story at all.

His looks and personality are derived from the character of Lampwick and the main character of A Clockwork Orange.

I think perhaps Ruby's connection to RRH is more in the form of her personality (naive and kind of gullible) only, rather than as a connection to the story at large (same with other characters. Yang and Blake also don't have a real connection to their inspirations when looking at their place in the story).

It's true that the villains are subpar. They had a huge chance of making a sympathetic character out of Adam (ruthless but only because he's trying to help his people escape racism.) but they, for some reason, shifted that role to Illia.

Same with Torchwick. Right before he dies he says he's a gambling man, and that he decided to help the people most likely to come out on top (Salem and co). It would be interesting if, for example, he didn't die at all, and he would realise later that RWBY was actually more likely to win, so he and Neo switch sides.

While Salem's backstory is interesting, sort of, I really couldn't give a shit. Her personality is nothing compared to the minor villains like Torchwick, Neo, Adam, Merc and Em, etc.

933233  No.37557

>>37282

>>37553

>>37556

I always imagined a better version of Adam being "survival of the fittest" taken to extremes, fueled by how down-trodden he was. He doesn't just want the Faunus to succeed and thrive- he wants to be the Faunus who succeeded the most. His manipulation of the white fang and Blake always being a way to make his "tribe" bigger.

The only risk with that is you have multiple villains who egos are either "survive and thrive", ego-driven, or both. And yet another villain who manipulates others by playing to their fears/desires. Even as a recurring motif that's a bit much.

> It would be interesting if, for example, he didn't die at all, and he would realise later that RWBY was actually more likely to win, so he and Neo switch sides.

If the show was more fun, I would have hoped the season in Atlas was staged more like a heist (the vault has the First National Bank of Atlas built on top of it, and the army headquarters built on top of that). Desperate to work out how to break in, the crew turn to the criminal under and find Torchwick. Though I wouldn't say he'd switch sides. Now he's seen what Salem/Cinder can do he'd probably look for somewhere to hold up- after revenge on Ruby & co.

f6f79b  No.37572

>>37556

>His looks and personality are derived from the character of Lampwick and the main character of A Clockwork Orange.

That just makes it worse since Alex is a gangster who rapes rapes rapes. We have a story where a villain is modeled off a protagonist infamous for his bloodshed/violation with that same villain also in the fairy tale role of the wolf (a major symbol of carnage and/or lack of inhibition) up against a young girl on the cusp of her adulthood covered in flower/blood imagery who's designed off a character from the iconic tale of the dangers that'd face young women (namely rape).

Roman is obviously supposed come-off as a depraved beast (see him stop his own escape just to get a chance at killing a teenaged girl) who has a veneer of charm but he's lacking in teeth thanks to RWBY's writing.

>It's true that the villains are subpar. They had a huge chance of making a sympathetic character out of Adam (ruthless but only because he's trying to help his people escape racism.) but they, for some reason, shifted that role to Illia.

The first showing of Adam had him try to kill off a train in the most edgy way possible. And the Fantasy Racism angle never worked since we failed to see such for the White Fang's actions (see them partnering with the faction that uses legendary monsters who destroy towns) to come off as warranted. See here >>36958 for more.

Ilia indeed is a sloppy character. She's more or less just a retread of Adam (complete with being a dyke) but with a more obviously forced dark past to make her sympathetic enough to join Blake's band of friends (even though her backstory has her look like a school shooter telling her manifesto).

>Same with Torchwick. Right before he dies he says he's a gambling man, and that he decided to help the people most likely to come out on top (Salem and co). It would be interesting if, for example, he didn't die at all, and hPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Korra and Asami were rivals in Lok Book One, were still hostile in Book Two, and got a forced friendship in Book Three (complete with a talk where they're insulting Mako and deflecting to Asami kissing him even though Korra was the one who cheated with her boyfriend to begin with), and got a paired ending so forced that Byke had to go on tumblr to insult random viewers for not seeing it coming.

Sun - Is actually concerned and thinks the best for Blake, helps Blake with taking back the White Fang, helps Blake save her family from an assassination attempt, takes a fucking hit for Blake from her crazy Lesbian stalker.

Yang - Bitched that Blake ain't there for her while her arm was chopped off. Only gets close with Weiss to have Weiss say to Yang to forgive Blake. Was more angry that Blake left her than her own mother. Guilt trips Blake numerous times over what she did that isn't exactly her fault.

And people prefer Yang over Sun as the perfect pair for Blake because Yang has tiddies?

Hey I didn't it works. I just said it has more to it than Korrasami. Which it does.

It's obvious that like how Korra was obviously written as straight in the start Yang was obviously intended to be straight also.

Doing these for myself.

Requires BournShell, Graphicmagick, FFMPEG.

Needs an optimized loop.

$MAX_IMAGE_FILESIZE=`gm identify %s`
$Bitrate=`ceil(500k, $MAX_IMAGE_FILESIZE)`
$MAX_DIMENSIONS=`gm identify -format \"%wx%h,\" +{.png,.jpg,.gif}`
$NUMBER_OF_FRAMES=$(ls +{.png,.jpg,.gif} + 2 )
$BD=`gm convert -size $MAX_DIMENSIONS "xc=#000" $($NUMBER_OF_FRAMES - 1).jpg

ffmpeg -framerate 1 -i %2d.jpg -b:v $Bitrate -c:v libx264 -t $NUMBER_OF_FRAMES -vf "format=yuv420p,fps=1,scale=min(iw*$(sed 's/[x]*$//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS))/ih\,$(sed 's/[x]*//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS)):min($(sed 's/[x]*$//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS)\,ih*$(sed 's/[x]*//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS)/iw),pad=$(sed 's/[x]*//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS):$(sed 's/[x]*$//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS):($(sed 's/[x]*//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS)-iw)/2:($(sed 's/[x]*$//' $MAX_DIMENSIONS)-ih)/2" -tune stillimage -preset veryslow -r 1 output.mp4

I think I could just do one `gm identify` loop on all images, then separate the results to an 2D array, so then I could calculate $MAX_IMAGE_FILESIZE, $MAX_DIMENSIONS, & $Bitrate. $NUMBER_OF_FRAMES would be a sizeofarray()+2, and $BD should just commanded once $NUMBER_OF_FRAMES was calculated. There's a lot to optimize.

Reusing sed seems too much an overhaul than just creating variables.

> The line that Qrow says about Mistral "scraping the bottom of the barrel these days" has been bugging the hell out of me. I get that he was insulting Dee & Dudley to get them to go away. But given the current circumstances Mistral is in, having lost about 30 Huntsmen, it just seems off.

A bad soldier is worse than no soldier at all. They get under better soldiers feet, don't listen to superiors or follow tactics, their deaths demoralize civilians thinking they were decent soldiers, and overall act so confident that they're a peg above a civ it actually puts them below a civ with a gun who knows to be scared.

Everything Dee and Dudley did in their introduction showed they were not competent. Now did Miles and Kerry consider all of that when writing it? Past evidence screams fuck no. Otherwise, totally on board with everything else you said.

>>36712

The energy and resources needed to fix RWBY exceed that of creating a new original universe. At it's core it's (as RT have joked themselves) teenagers vs. monsters. To have the monsters you need a world big on defense- like medieval castle cities (as an anon said in a past thread) to protect the richer population from bandits and wolves, while everyone outside had to rely on a local knight (either hired to stay there, or hired per day/job).

That way Grimm can attack based on any desire because they can't get over the walls. With the above you can keep them almost the same. No need to eat (as evidence when the few times they have stayed in captivity they have not starved), yet will attack and consume. Negative emotions is liked cooked meat to them- overriding all their cunning and instincts to make them attack the source. This can in turn create frenzies if the negative emotional state is big enough, where Grimm will use wave "tactics" to knock down walls and lose self preservation.

Throw in a bit more history lore about the nations and Humans v Faunus and it sounds like I've solved it right? Now imagine re-writing the whole series to get those elements in witPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

They all work great now.

And this is funnier than I remember. Not amazing, but I remember it being dire, and this is OK aside from some downright cringe-worthy shit. I hate RT is actually getting better.

I will admit than when they are pretty funny when they made fun of themselves or grow self-aware of how Shit the RWBYUniverse was. I did like that Nora episode when she was teleported to the RT storage room and see likeminded tiny RWBY figures praising the shitty Pyrrha doll.

Welcome to /rwby/'s first ever CYOA/Quest thread!

In this adventure you all will be guiding the actions of a character named Verdant Octavius, rich heir to a Dusk merchant who has ties with SDC (Schnee Dust Company)! This is Verdant's first year and his team/origin have already been decided in the meta thread for this CYOA, but that doesn't mean you can't join in despite not participated. Though I'd recommend that you check the thread out to get an idea of what's going on here.

The adventure will begin at the same time Ruby Rose is starting her first year at Beacon and will follow the shows plot to a limited extent. There will be twists and turns in the path ahead, as well as romance, friendship, and heartbreak.

The meta thread can be found here:

https://8ch.net/rwby/res/624.html#top

Archive:

Part #1- https://archive.is/Jo4mb

Part #2- https://archive.is/RBx5k

How will Verdant's actions be decided you may ask? Through democracy of course!

Everyone gets to choose from one of the many options that will be presented throughout the adventure and the option with the most approval shall be Verdant's action.

From this thread forward, you guys will have the option to write in your own dialogue for Verdant. This is certain to make things interesting.

But how will combat be solved? In combat you will be presented with several options and the one with the most approval shall also be Verdant's action. Some actions can turn the tide of a fight while others will miss, or even cause you great pain in your immediate future.

Will there be waifu? Of course there will be!

Pretty much any female in this CYOA will be open to romance, or even befriended depending upon your actions. Don't expect to get intoPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>Returning to your dorm room, you stand at the foot of your bed and discuss tactics with your team while RWBY and JNPR get ready.

>"What exactly did you have in mind, Verdant?" Edread asks, standing with his hands on his belt.

>"I've been going over our initiation on the first day of school, and I feel like there's still plenty of room to improve," you begin.

>You pause dramatically and look your team over a few times, Balder towering next to his partner, while Iris sits cross legged on the floor. If a teaching from Atlus' military school walked in right now, he'd probably sneer in disgust at the unprofessional sight, probably before sending everyone off to run a few miles in the cold snow.

>"Iris' semblance, and acrobatic skills are definitely one of her greatest strengths," you continue. "But the lack of communication is going to be an issue, so I want you to straighten that out as soon as possible."

>"Might I make a suggestion?" Edread speaks up.

>"Speak," you say in an official tone.

>"Given her excellent stealth abilities, maybe she should actually remain silence during combat unless absolutely necessary?" Edread begins to pace about the room, hand resting on his chin. "Perhaps we could even develop a sign language system so that she can deliver vital information to us on the battle field?"

>"I like the way you think," you nod with a smirk. "We should probably work on that now before meeting for our study session. Another problem is Balder's uncooperative nature when it comes to communication."

>Balder simply keeps his eyes forward, standing before you as if he was his own CCT tower. Sizing the giant up once, you glare at him before looking to Edread for an opinion.

>"His raw physical strength, and ability to pin even the strongest of enemies down will have to speak for themselves," Edread sighs before giving you a look that tells you everything you need to know. Edread is planning on working with Balder to break him out of his shell, for your sake, and Edread's own.
