If you could only listen to one black metal artist i'd pick Varg. His discography covers so many different types of black metal. I've explained Burzum to my friends a few times and everytime it comes down to the vocals and the experimentation. His vocals legit sound like a dying animal and very few other black metal artists manage to produce that atmosphere properly. Filosofem, his best album, is also a perfect example of black metal minimalism.

I'm not sure if Varg was the first one to do it, but he was one of the first artists who decided to purposefully tank their own production value. Aske was recorded on a headset microphone. This is a logical and fitting decision for black metal since it's mainly about breaking with the (fake and contrived) traditional guidelines for music to make something more genuine. The original concept of black metal has sadly been subverted by roleplayers like Satyr.

Black metal has never been my thing, only in some cases do i like it, such as Behemoth's The Satanist, i don't really like the vocals and neither the shit production, guess it makes sense aesthetically but for me it just sounds bad, the fact that it's done on purpose doesn't make it sound good.

Share what you think are his best songs and i'll give it a try, it's been actually years since i last listened to some of his work

Only concert I’ve ever been to was Queen. It was alright I guess, not sure why going to a crowded hockey arena (that’s where most concerts are held in leafland) and paying for overpriced shitty beer/food is better than just listening to the same music at home. Though I guess for smaller “underground” is that still a hip term? what about hip term? musicans it’s probably a lot different.

It absolutely is, last concert i went to was one by Swans, in a rather small theater/bar and holy shit you could feel the pounding of the drums in your chest, everyone was almost in a trance, shit lasted like 3 hours, it was a quasi religious experience.
