Would people buy an rpg maker game?

4525bb No.23486

>>23484

I'd definitely say not really. Unless it's really really good, but the problem is that the traditional turn based RPGs that rpg makes is built for is not really that interesting in 2015. You would have to change it up somehow like Undertale. And I don't think the engine is malleable enough for that, so you might as well work in an engine that is more customizable and has cross platform support like GameMaker, platform support because more systems that can run it = more potential buyers if that's what you are concerned about. At the end of the day, people are more likely to spend money on games taht are actually worth their time, that gives a new kind of experience regardless of engine.

People have before. LISA and To The Moon are both rpgmaker.

>Undertale

Undertale was made in Game Maker. It's an understandable mistake, considering that it plays like an RPG Maker game, but it was indeed done in Game Maker.

There's like 10 pages of RPG maker games on Steam. Most people don't give a fuck what did you use to make your game. It all boils down to how well you can market your game (and/or how good it is).

I guess >>23486 has a point, but there's always a market for JRPGs even though some people might find them boring as hell. And as always, since it's an RPG game, you should strive to tell a good story, which engine do you use for that doesn't matter.

As long as it doesn't look like an RPG Maker game, or is very high quality, sure

007f8e No.23515

In my case I wouldn't.

c388bb No.23521

Only if it's pornographic.

7fda06 No.23551

Only fantastic/ youtube bait games.

RPG maker really is only one step above making campaigns in an editor like Amnesias you won't be able to innovate at all in terms of mechanics as someone above pointed out so your art and story have to be spot on. If that's the case then why even bother with RPG maker at all pick up RenPy(bonus its free) or something and make a slightly more interactive than usual visual novel, you even get to learn python out of it. Even if your arts trash tier as long as the storys passably good you can get away with a visual novel just like the when they cry/bloom series seems to.

161488 No.26129
