Updates:
1. New board owner. Previous owner appeared to be MIA so I took over.
2. Flags have been implemented. Check them out!
The following characters have been added: Akiko Minase, Bulma, Chi-Chi, Hanako/Delia, Mitsuko Shindo, Mrs. Briefs, and Rinko Iori. More will be made in the future.
Future direction of this board
The post rate on /ara/ has been abysmal for a while now. So I will be figuring out ways to expand this user base and try to make this board more fun for you guys. I have some ideas (which are currently secret) that I plan to implement sometime in the near future.
/co/ & Western art inclusion?
One idea that's not secret and that I'd like your input on is the following: I might start allowing and encouraging Western art that's related to this board's content. You know, attracting people from /co/, dA, and so on. I feel that diversifying the available content on this board is one possible method of expanding the user base and increasing the post rate. If I do allow it, it will probably be under the condition that their content be segregated in their own threads. Of course, any /furry/ garbage or similar would be prohibited. What do you guys think about this?
No.428
In the rules you should clarify on onee-sans. I'm personally all for keeping Onee-sans as a part of this board.
For other potential characters for flags (some of them are very much on the obscure side):
Masane Amaha
Cattleya (Queen’s Blade)
Saionji Reika
Ren Seto
Hoshizora Ikuyo
Nana Todoroki
Akana Rui
Crimson Viper
Vanessa (King of Fighters)
Cooking Mama
Yukari Takara
Mother Brain
I don't know how you can really "diversify" the content though. I mean, we have milfs and onee-sans. Not sure if there's any more we can do beyond that.
But either way, I have a lot of potential threads planned for this board anyway, but I usually only do it at a trickle at a time.
Western-art is iffy. Maybe just allow someone, if they want, to make a single thread for western art milfs and take it from there?
As for traffic, I think it's slowly finally starting to get there. The past week has been far more active then it usually is, so maybe the tide is finally starting to turn there. But it will take time and there's no guarantee, since 8chan is slow anyway.
No.429
Western art could be good as as long as it isn't extremely terrible if that makes sense?
No.433
Also Board owner, did you consider shilling by either making a thread on
>>>/boards/ or posting in the sticky thread for low-traffic boards?
It seems that a lot of low-traffic boards go those places to explain what their board is.
>>429I have no problem with western art itself (I have plenty).
I was only slightly worried that an overabundance will make the board look more like rule34 paheal and may turn some off. But Dexter's Mom, Madeline Fenton, and Mrs. Incredibles are examples of characters that get some fantastic milf art. I also humbly admit that Peggy Pete is the only time I've ever fapped to what is arguably considered furry.
There probably won't be much worry though: most around here will probably post more anime/game related and only occasionally we'll get western, so it probably wouldn't be an issue.
That's why I say if someone wants to down the line, then they should just have a single thread for western art, and see where it goes from there. I too think encouraging western art would be a good idea.
No.434
>>433That's reasonable and Dexter's mom my nigga :)and that would be slightly bad if this board looked like a rule 34 board.

Hello!
Updates:1. Trying Yotsuba as default theme.
I think it suits this board better, but if you guys find it too bright and prefer Yotsuba B, I'll set it back and try to come up with a better style sheet in the future.
2. Rule page has been updated. Any objections? Let me know what you think. I think it can be cleaned up a little, I'll figure out how to re-word things later.
3. Three new flags added: Araragi, Cattleya, Masane Amaha. Keep the suggestions coming. I think I'll do these in larger, less frequent batches, because 8chan has this glitch where new flags aren't listed in the reply box for each thread until someone posts a new reply.
New title ideas?Even though this is just a casual NSFW board, having a better title will attract more people.
2D MILFs & Cakes doesn't look bad, but I have a feeling it could be slightly better. Maybe I'm overthinking it. "2D" sounds slightly dorky. But it might be a problem if I omitted that. Thoughts on this?
>>428>I don't know how you can really "diversify" the content though. I mean, we have milfs and onee-sans. Not sure if there's any more we can do beyond that. Diversify, as in not just Japanese milfs and onee-sans but Western ones too. The rule on this was never clear to begin with.
>As for traffic, I think it's slowly finally starting to get there. The past week has been far more active then it usually is, so maybe the tide is finally starting to turn there. But it will take time and there's no guarantee, since 8chan is slow anyway.Yeah, I don't expect changes in the post rate to be anything but gradual.
>>429If by extremely terrible you mean bizarre stuff found on deviantArt or rule34 websites, then no I won't allow that here.
>>433>Also Board owner, did you consider shilling by either making a thread on >>>/boards/ or posting in the sticky thread for low-traffic boards?Good idea, I didn't know about that. Maybe I'll do it later in the weekend if I have time. I still want to tweak a few things before I go in 100% shill mode.
>I was only slightly worried that an overabundance will make the board look more like rule34 paheal/ara/ won't be anything like that website. Also I think they banned straight shota.
>But Dexter's Mom, Madeline Fenton, and Mrs. Incredibles are examples of characters that get some fantastic milf art.I encourage people here to make threads for each of those characters. There aren't that many popular western characters anyway, and this whole board can fit 375 threads at a time.
>I also humbly admit that Peggy Pete is the only time I've ever fapped to what is arguably considered furry.Peg Pete is very anthropomorphized. Like 10% furry. Maybe I can adjust the rules to allow characters like her. But I have to be careful about this.

I don't know about the new rules, but on the old /ara/, we allowed onee-sans, such as the Sailor Moons. My definition of "onee-san" for the rules of /ara/ was either a blood-related/non-blood related older sister, or an older teenage girl/young woman having sex with a younger shota.
For the latter example, I'll include a Sailor Moon doujin as a reference in my post.
Also, one of the banners was from Onee-chan ga Kita (My Sister Came!), source included in my post.
>>1801
MILFs, Cakes & Onee-sans would be my suggestion.
I've noticed that there is now a /ss/ board, which was not there when I first made /ara/. This greatly splits the userbase.
As for the issue with the furries, this is my "radical" suggestion, but please hear me out. Perhaps a mega furry MILF & /ss/ thread could be made, for all the furry MILF & /ss/ content not to flood the board? Simply make a rule that you cannot post furry content outside of it and job's done. Everyone wins.
Another suggestion. I don't know if you're good at editing the board's code, but /ara/ could really do with a more custom look.
Thanks for keeping /ara/ alive.

Hi aradmin.
I avoid being overly nitpicky with the pictures posted, but if we allow teenagers, ordinary sisters, then how could this board possibly differentiate from /h/, /e/, and so on? The way I see it, this board can only survive by catering to a more specific niche as it does now.
>I've noticed that there is now a /ss/ board, which was not there when I first made /ara/. This greatly splits the userbase.
I never really saw /ss/ as a direct competitor to /ara/. All straight shota means is a young boy paired up with one or more females. Said female(s) can be younger than the boy. That's not allowed on /ara/ since only older women are allowed here.
>As for the issue with the furries, this is my "radical" suggestion, but please hear me out. Perhaps a mega furry MILF & /ss/ thread could be made, for all the furry MILF & /ss/ content not to flood the board?
I was thinking about that too, but I'm sure someone will eventually make that thread anyway. So far I have not noticed any real issue with furries yet.
>Simply make a rule that you cannot post furry content outside of it and job's done. Everyone wins.
I don't want to make a strict rule about this. This is more about common sense, where furry content will not be posted in a thread it clearly doesn't belong in. For example, if you look at a thread like >>2234, it seems it's just a lighthearted discussion thread. There's no reason for me to ban highly anthropomorphised furries from such a thread. If, however, someone starts posting stuff like ponies and pokemons, I will spoiler or delete those pictures because I consider those to be bestiality.
>Another suggestion. I don't know if you're good at editing the board's code, but /ara/ could really do with a more custom look.
I have been working on some different stylesheets, but the problem is that I always end up finding this default Yotsuba Blue style to be at least slightly better. It's really hard to beat. I still need a little more time.

>I avoid being overly nitpicky with the pictures posted, but if we allow teenagers, ordinary sisters, then how could this board possibly differentiate from /h/, /e/, and so on? The way I see it, this board can only survive by catering to a more specific niche as it does now.
Onee-sans and teenage girls are not the same thing and have never been. An onee-san can have the body of a teenage girl (like Sailor Moon), but her appeal is completely different. Like a large part of /ara/s, the appeal of onee-sans comes from older females with younger males. Like /ara/s, onee-sans have different personalities ranging from the motherly ones to the extremely lewd ones, the H-anime Kateikyoushi no Onee-san The Animation is a great example (it's about a guy in high school who over summer gets four private female tutors, all aged around 20-25, it's an example of the non-incest type of onee-san). Like /ara/s, onee-sans are niche, unlike their imouto counterpart, and the reason for this is the same one as to why femdom is more niche than maledom. And finally like many /ara/s, many onee-sans use ara ara~ as their catchphrase
Onee-sans simply don't belong on any of the other boards, but they still need a place to call home, a place to be loved and hugged. /ara/ is the perfect place for them, because I made /ara/ to give all older females love, be they mothers, older sisters, teachers, aunts, gardeners, etc., knowing very well how depressingly niche older females are, so niche that older females have almost no anime that focuses on them or just caters to the older female crowd, so niche that even in H-anime older females are extremely sparse, so niche that you have to wait months for a single new doujin with older females to appear.
This is why /ara/ was made, so those passionate about older females could talk about them without being persecuted, like on most other boards, even outside 8chan.
To deny entry to onee-sans is to admit the defeat of older females.
If you still have doubts about accepting onee-sans into the /ara/ family, ask the users themselves what they think about that, I can guarantee that most will say yes.
>I never really saw /ss/ as a direct competitor to /ara/. All straight shota means is a young boy paired up with one or more females. Said female(s) can be younger than the boy. That's not allowed on /ara/ since only older women are allowed here.
Yes, but please understand that the majority of content posted on the /ss/ board is young boys with older females, not to mention that the great majority of /ss/ works are young boys with older females.
/ara/ and /ss/ overlap too much, many users of /ara/ like /ss/ content, and many users of /ss/ like /ara/ content. In my opinion there's no point to /ss/ because /ara/ already covers that genre, if they really want young boys with young girls, they can just use the lolicon board.
>I was thinking about that too, but I'm sure someone will eventually make that thread anyway. So far I have not noticed any real issue with furries yet.
>I don't want to make a strict rule about this. This is more about common sense, where furry content will not be posted in a thread it clearly doesn't belong in. Agreed completely.

I never "denied entry" to onee-sans (i.e. it's never been banned outright), in fact you'll probably find some in the straight shota threads we have. However, I'm hesitant to add it to the board title because I don't want people using it as an excuse to make threads about 14-year-olds like Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon, just because she happens to have a younger sibling. Underage onee-sans like her have to be posted in context. If she's in a picture by herself, or with someone older than her, that's not /ara/ content. If she's in a picture patting her younger brother on the head or whatever, then that's okay because the context is clear. The only other exception I can think of is that MILF-ification thread.

Here's a pink theme I've been trying out.
I still think it's inferior to 8chan's default Yotsuba B and regular peach Yotsuba because light pink might be too much of a saturated color for the eyes, hence why I seem to feel some eye strain from it. I tried increasing the font size a bit (see second pic), which helps a little, but I'm not satisfied with it.
Finalchan's orange is too saturated. It's a nice concept, but Yotsuba is still better.
Maybe I will try to design a theme similar to Yotsuba (peach), but figure out a way to relax the background light yellow color while keeping the OP text still readable. In websites where there is quite a bit of reading, such as this imageboard, I think eliminating eye strain is far more important than looking fancy. At the same time, I still want to strike a compromise.
Anyone still reading through this post is probably thinking I have OCD, lol.

I really like this one a lot. Purple is the ultimate MILF color imo. I really hope you go with this one as the default, but if you don't could I at least have the CSS?
I'm not a big fan of the pink. Pink is just too loud and in your face, it makes me think of lolis and moe shit. Purple is like a more mature pink, it's more modest and gentle, like older women. It's a lot easier on the eyes when browsing at night as well.

Wait, I thought /ss/ was made before /ara/?
With that said, I don't think it overlaps TOO much to be much of a concern, but yes there is some overlap since a lot of milf stuff deals with /ss/ as well.

Aw, that's unfortunate.
Curious: how many banners can a board have?
No.2525

/ss/ wasn't there when I specifically searched for it back then, and /ara/ was made around the time /a/ was made, one week or so after 8chan skyrocketed in popularity, when board owners were called admins and volunteers were called mods, and when you couldn't make mods unless you gave them the password to your admin account.
Oh, and thanks for your concern. I was worried about you /ara/nons too all this time I've been away.
Truth be told I should've given one of you the password to my account while I was away, so you could take care of /ara/ until I came back. But I guess that doesn't matter anymore.
Also, why isn't the thread sticky'd?
No.2532
Still experimenting with purple themes. For now I'll leave it Yotsuba Peach. I can paste the different CSS I don't use in a pastebin at some point.
>>2508
>how many banners can a board have?
50. I think we have about 15. And a few of them I plan to remove once we reach that limit since the quality isn't that great compared to the rest.
>>2525
>why isn't the thread sticky'd?
Decided the sticky is unnecessary. It just added clutter at the top. No need for a list of rules when it's obvious what this board is about.

God bless this board for existing. The best board in this entire website. The best community, with all you /ara/bros of refined, excellent taste. I hope we last a good 20 years at least, if possible, even if it's not here.
No.2586
Does anybody else dislike multiple image uploads? I get that it's really convenient for doujin dumping, but I personally think it makes the whole board look really cluttered and ugly. I don't mind 2 images like this >>2479 because you can clearly tell it's the same post, but when it gets to 4 or 5 and images start appearing under the rest, that's when things start looking more like a booru than a chan.
This is more of a complaint about the board software so there's not much the /ara/ owner can do about it (unless you're really good with CSS). My suggestion would be to set max image uploads to 3 which is pretty reasonable and probably won't fuck up the formatting of posts (depends on the image dimensions). I really hope Infinity Next will improve on this.

I'll try to come up with a workaround with CSS. The two main things I need to do are to reduce the margin between the multifile images and to condense the file info.

Nope, for me multi image uploads is the best thing. Conserves a lot of space for threads/posts and helps me organize my uploads better.

I don't mind this current peach theme. I think it suits /ara/ fine. Maybe you should come up with a similar peach or orange theme. Though if I had to choose between those two dark themes, I think plum is easier to read. Or make the font a little brighter in purple.

B.O., how are you going to deal with Next?
No.3145
>>3085
Hope it's released soon. I think they said 8chan is transitioning to Next in early December. The new software should fix a lot of the problems, like the lack of banner editing, back pages, etc. I've been wanting to add new banners for a while.
I took a quick look at the beta and they've improved the multi-image post layout. Overall cleaner and better positioned.
It's not perfect right now though; for one, it's lacking reply buttons for threads which doesn't seem intuitive to me. And I'm not sure what's going to happen with the flags, although I wouldn't really care much since they're rarely used.
If they do bring back flags, do you guys prefer them organized by source title:
Dragon Ball Z - Bulma
Dragon Ball Z - Chi-Chi
Clannad - Sanae Furukawa
Kanon - Akiko Minase
or as it is right now, by type of media:
Anime - Bulma
Anime - Chi-Chi
Visual Novel - Akiko Minase
Visual Novel - Sanae Furukawa
or both combined:
Anime - Dragon Ball Z - Bulma
Anime - Dragon Ball Z - Chi-Chi
Visual Novel - Clannad - Sanae Furukawa
Visual Novel - Kanon - Akiko Minase
or just by name?
Akiko Minase
Bulma
Chi-Chi
Sanae Furukawa
No.3146
Okay I just thought of a different order I am now trying:
Akiko Minase - Kanon
Bulma - Dragon Ball Z
Chi-Chi - Dragon Ball Z
Sanae Furukawa - Clannad
I think the people who are real fans of these characters remember them by their names first, and their source titles second. Hopefully it won't look too cluttered.

The ladder for me. If anyone's really interested they'd put the name in a search engine. I'd be happy either way, honestly.

Tough call. Just by name looks cleanest but it's nice to know the source. I'm used to that media type order, but the name and source probably makes most sense. Although I wouldn't be so sure people remember by character name before source. I think in the end it's mostly just about getting used to an order.

I prefer Source - Name or just Name only.
Name - Source looks really messy.

>Although I wouldn't be so sure people remember by character name before source.
This. I find it easier to remember Clannad or Kanon than some long Japanese names like Akiko Minase or Sanae Furukawa. Often my thought process goes like "who's that milf from Kanon again?"

i like source title and then name better
name only is fine too, as >>3148 pointed out that people could search it anyway, it's not like /ara/ is some detailed wiki or something
by media it's a little tricky, because DBZ is a manga but is known more for its anime, Clannad is a visual novel but is known more for its anime, and so on
No.3164
Okay, I decided to go with Source - Name.
I even whipped up a little mock-up program in Visual C# to see how some of the drop-down lists would look like.
I had the flags set to order (A) yesterday, but it felt... unnatural, when you have multiple characters from the same series. (E) did look cleanest, but I think it's nice to have some context for the lesser known characters. (B) and (C) were attempts at capitalization, and frankly they were a horrible idea because the longer names got cut off. So (D) is my final decision.
