So is Carnivore's Retaliation one of the essential doomer metal albums? Track by track it tackles a lot of the shit doomers may feel or be aware of, to pontificate in a track by track basis;

Angry Neurotic Catholics - general resentment against organized religious upbringing

SMD - Although much more topical and dated based on climate of the NY rock music scene at the time it does explore elements of alienation and revenge against forces that would have us silenced due to our beliefs.

Ground Zero Brooklyn - Fear of annihilation through WMDs

Race War - One of the doozies in this record, and a song most leftists retards would dismiss due to shock value. The initial midpaced hardcore influenced passages with their explicitly racist lyrics serve to drive home the reality of a race war through tongue in cheek, while the fast part at the end intelligently declares why forced integration would end up in disaster, imo a brilliant song which 30 years ago detailed our future.

Inner Conflict - every doomer struggles with notions of self hatred, anxiety, and desire to kill oneself, this just puts it into music

Jesus Hitler - The other doozy on this record. Pure shock value, but it adds a real interesting question, would Jesus Hitler save the jews, or destroy them? I think we know the answer to this one

Technophobia - There's an ecofascist presence on this board so I have a feeling they'd disagree with this one, however accelerationists wouldn't.

Manic Depression - A decent Hendrix cover, but not as emotionally cathartic as Inner Conflict, I have a feeling it probably was for Pete though.

USA for USA - Nationalism ho! Could be percieved as jingoism but only if you REALLY REALLY take the tongue in cheek lyrics seriously. There's a lot of idealism in this one.

Five Billion Dead - Neat instrumental

Sex and Violence - This one I feel, is slightly out of place in the doomer mindset. I believe the doomer doesn't outwardly express feelings of sexual dominance or violence against others, I could be wrong though. Fun little tribute to A Clockwork Orange though.

What do other metalhead doomers think? Any other 80's metal albums you guys think are /doomer/?

Same here, I really dug the Mad Max aesthetic they had by this period, plus Peter's double tracked vocals put the fear of God in me way back when I was just discovering metal. Speaking of which, you should track down an original vinyl rip or the Price Killers CD issue of that record, the video you posted there is the remaster, which although it brings the drums forward and gives them a cool bass drum sound, it takes off the awesome reverb the vocals had on the original and buries the guitar. Here's Predator from an original vinyl rip, you'll know it's the original due to drumsticks clacking the tempo before the song starts and the aforementioned production changes.

I believe Retaliation tackles these doomer subjects better though. The debut only feels doomer in spirit to be frank.

Not really doomer music, but during those few momentary times of actual emotion I'll listen to this or other Death Grips songs while working out alone in a gym at 3 am or during /nightwalk/. One of the most intense moments of a emotion I've ever felt was during a heavy set of weightlifting alone cranked up on deadly levels of preworkout. Closest I've ever felt to euphoria and a psychotic break at the same time, legit thought I was being stalked by shadow people while walking home.

For me their music is completely unparalleled; nothing has elicited as much enjoyment and emotion for such a long time (been listening to them for 8+ years now). >Yes, I am isolated both musically and socially. It has always been so.

>In Japan, I have very few concerts unless I organise them myself. I very rarely get a paid concert or a musical job: not more than twice a year, normally zero.

>It’s almost impossible here for musicians who play experimental music to make their living only by music. I’ve been working as a part-time cleaner for 25 years. And beside this I have taken on more than ten different kinds of part-time jobs to support my living. A musician who I’ve known for 30 years still makes his living by juggling several part-time jobs. He sometimes has to do three different jobs within a day: one in the morning, the next in the afternoon, the last early in the evening, then finally a concert at night. For me it’s difficult to survive like that now. It’s too hard to manage. My friend sometimes looks really tired. I don’t want to do such jobs any more except the cleaning job (though that business has itself become depressed now). Instead I want to concentrate on music. So I am very poor now. Just to survive I’ve had to sell what I had: musical instruments, CDs, books, and whatever else can be sold. I have no stereo, don’t own a computer, or a phone, and, of course, I have no paid musical job. Often I even have to pawn my guitars. The older I get, the poorer I have become. Nevertheless I don’t want to work only for money. And I need time to do my music.

Anons, you all know that I am not into Rock music at all but after BO made this mixtape I went to look it up a little and get smart.

It seems like grunge is eternally associated with Doomer culture:

>comes from Washington state known for depression

>was the defining genere of Gen X like swing in the 30s, rocknroll in the 50s, J. Lennon in the 70s

>after grunge there has not been a revolutionary new genre ever again in the turbo globallized world

today we have dog eat dog turbo capitalism and obsession with status symbols, mirrored mostly in hip hop bling bling culture

common themes of grunge include:

>dark, nihilistic, angst-themed songs

>social alienation, isolation, trauma

>self-doubt, self-hatred, abuse, betrayal

>Grunge artists expressed "strong feelings" in their lyrics about "societal ills", including a "desire to 'crucify the insincere'"

>Many grunge musicians displayed a general disenchantment with the state of society

>In 1992, music critic Simon Reynolds said that "there's a feeling of burnout in the culture at large. Kids are depressed about the future"

>The topics of grunge lyrics–homelessness, suicide, rape,[72] "broken homes, drug addiction and self-loathing" contrasted sharply to the glam metal lyrics of Poison, which described "life in the fast lane",[78] partying and hedonism.

>Grunge lyrics developed as part of "Generation X malaise", reflecting that demographic's feelings of "disillusionment and uselessness"

pretty much what we discuss here. existence is a nigger and society cannot be fixed yet we trapped here

style

>grunge musicians in Washington were a "mundane everyday style",

>Grunge … became an anti-consumerist movement where the less you spent on clothes, the more 'coolness' you had.

> Kurt Cobain was just too lazy to shampoo", and Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman said, "This [clothing] is cheap, it's durable, and it's kind of timeless. It also runs against the grain of the whole flashy aesthetic that existed in the 80s.

>The unkempt fashion sense defined the look of the "slacker generation", who "skipped school, smoked pot

I think many anons identify with these intentions and wear casual or functional and comfy stuff

drug abuse

>In the 1990s, the media focused on the use of heroin by musicians in the Seattle grunge scene

> the "… involvement of heroin mirrors the self-hating, nihilistic aspect to the music

>A 2014 book stated that whereas in the 1980s, people used the "stimulant" cocaine to socialize and "… celebrate good times"

>in the 1990s grunge scene, the "depressant" heroin was used to "retreat" into a "cocoon" and be "… sheltered from a harsh and unforgiving world which offered … few prospects for … change or hope.

>grunge Jesus Kirk O'Bane was a heroin addict and suicides at age 27

>just like various other members of well known bands of the region

Mirrored in the american opiates crisis and generally Heroin was associated with loser types of people while cocaine was for $$ bankers

so it seems like Gen Xers have been the original Doomers. has that been discussed already in previous posts?

I was born 1991 so I missed this entire era and have no idea. When I grew up, Eminem was the big thing. He made rap mainstream.

I know the Gen Xer collegue at my last company told me he grew up with one guy who got hooked on heroin and a few years ago he died of an overdose.

Yes, there was a thread fairly recently:

When did Eminem become a thing on MTV? Wasn't it around same time as when grunge started slowly fading away? It was pretty short thing, like roughly from late 80s (88-89) to 93-94 max, after that it became too pop-ish, but I don't listen to grunge that much. However some grunge songs carry that essence of that era, from our childhoods or teens simply because radios kept playing it years after it died, especially in eastern Europe. I never met anyone who would be into Grunge like so much, often it was part of those rock emo girls (early 00s were emo scene kids era, I almost forgot about that). I was for a short while into grunge but mostly kids around me listened to rap, punk and few here and there were goths refusing to conform as usual. People mostly got over it fast, at least that's what I think. How many people do you know who would call themselves "grungers" or something? Layne Staley was great though, that unplugged MTV concert is still one of best things I've ever heard and seen, I don't really care that much about Soundgarden (never liked it tbh) or Kurt and his Nirvana.

Yeah I felt like I saw the term grunge somewhere

Interesting points in that thread

>When did Eminem become a thing on MTV? Wasn't it around same time as when grunge started slowly fading away?

Yes, around 1999. With the release of the Slim Shady LP. Imagine there is this white guy making fun of Britney Spears and having a video clip where he is dressed like a burger flipper and spits into the onion rings of customers. This seemed very funny for an 8 year old at that time.

There was actually a few Kirk O'Bane songs I instantly recognised from the Melody without knowing the Song at all. I have the same with that song that goes like

>and nothing else matters

funny how some commercial songs end up becoming inofficial hymns

>I never met anyone who would be into Grunge like so much, often it was part of those rock emo girls (early 00s were emo scene kids era, I almost forgot about that).

>I was for a short while into grunge but mostly kids around me listened to rap, punk and few here and there were goths refusing to conform as usual. People mostly got over it fast, at least that's what I think. How many people do you know who would call themselves "grungers" or something?

Yeah, my childhood crush was one of them. She had an obsession with Marilyn Mansion. We were bench neighbors and one time on a school trip we talked and she told me some story about him. It was really interesting because she seemed so hyped when she talked about him. I did not understand her at all because I found him creepy he has been all over tv as the bad guy who god blamed after columbine massacre so I knew him. Oh yes and he did a feature with Eminem because Eminem was blamed for the massacre as well so they teamed up for this song "the way I am". Basically my crush tells me a story how Manson removed 2 or 4 of his rips to have the ability to orally satisfy himself. You must imagine how weird that was for a 10 or 11 year old at that time. Now in retrospect I think how weird that was for a girl to be into such stuff. and there was already rumors about her parents and brother being satanists and that they are dangerous, so she basically confirmed the rumors. Interesting thing was she started wearing goth clothes only 2 or 3 years later in junior high.

>Layne Staley was great though, that unplugged MTV concert is still one of best things I've ever heard and seen, I don't really care that much about Soundgarden (never liked it tbh) or Kurt and his Nirvana.

I read about this guy. I think he died of an opiates overdose as well. I think for Kurt it was also the problem that he had a message in his music and as always people misunderstood and made everything commercial and elevated him into some kind of Jesus of Gen X status. So I think he was also frustrated about how everything evolved - on top of all the depression problems he already had for years.

>This seemed very funny for an 8 year old at that time.

My cousins gave me pirated tapes from CDs with his music, I listened to him unironi even though I didn't understand what he was rapping about. I remember much later doring 00s in MTV group D12 which was also this weird stuff with him. But I guess he wasn't that new with crazy videoclips, didn't ODB had similar weird funky clips (not on same level as Eminem though)?

Anyway, back to topic of grunge, during 90s there was this weird melancholia thing going on in all kinds of music. If you will listen to any 90s pop rock songs, many of them have this sadder undertone, not just from America.

>nothing else matters

This song is still on rotation in radios even today.

>Yeah, my childhood crush was one of them.

>I did not understand her at all because I found him creepy

>Now in retrospect I think how weird that was for a girl to be into such stuff.

I also have friend which used to be emo, she is basically my only irl friend I still have today, that one I talked about regular day thread or whatever is that thread with greentexts called. I was in opposition to it and I don't even know why. I remember we talked about it once and I didn't get that style. Still I don't like the music or fashion though but I'm pretty much indifferent to it. She admitted she still listens some of those songs like Chemical my romance???? or what it was called and all other bands popular at that time, for nostalgia purposes, but I think she is still deep inside same dark kid, just trying to escape from it.

>Kurt

We're a ship without a storm

Cold without the warm

Light inside the darkness lit at peace

We're a laugh without a tear

Hope without the fear

We are coming home

We're off to the witch

We may never never never come home

But the magic that we'll feel is worth a lifetime

We're all born upon the cross

With the throw before the toss

You can release yourself but the only way is down

We don't come alone

We are fire we are stone

We're the hand that writes and quickly moves away

We'll know for the first time

If we're evil or divine

We're the last in line, yeah

We're the last in line

Two eyes from the east

It's the angel of the beast

And the answer lies between all good and bad

We search for the truth

We could die upon the tooth

But the thrill of just the chase is worth the pain

We'll know for the first time

If we're evil or divine

We're the last in line yeah

We're the last in line oh

Yeah

We're off to the witch

We may never never never come home

But the magic that we'll feel is worth a lifetime

We're all thrown upon the cross

We'll be thrown before the toss

You can release yourself but the only way is down

We'll know for the first time

If we're evil or divine

We're the last in line oh

We're the last in line

See how we shine

We're the last in line

We're a ship without a storm

We're cold inside the warm

A second instance of how fucked up you are:

You was going to cook you some breakfast

Well you went in there

And you put some toast in the toaster

Put a skillet on the stove, some grease in it

You got you some eggs out, some bacon

Poured you some orange juice and made you some coffee

Got some jelly and some butter, fried eggs, salt

Yet the guy who made the music you lived to was a confirmed pinko:

>Nevertheless, he received accolades and state awards and served in the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR (1947) and the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union (from 1962 until his death).

>The year 1960 marked another turning point in Shostakovich's life: he joined the Communist Party.

>In joining the party, Shostakovich was also committing himself to finally writing the homage to Lenin that he had promised before. His Twelfth Symphony, which portrays the Bolshevik Revolution and was completed in 1961, was dedicated to Vladimir Lenin and called "The Year 1917."

Don't be too hard on him - LARPers are really just failures at life still desperately seeking to appear differently because, unlike us, they're not honest enough to admit to being a failure at life. That's why I don't believe such anons actually believe what they say - they just know like we do that all is lost, but still want to appear above what they see as "defeatism" while acting like their slacktivism actually matters any more than our supposed defeatism. If you read between the lines, this anon is literally crying out for help. Pity him, anon. He needs it.

Diofag again

High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water

Nine years worth of breakin' my back

There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard

See how he glides, why he's lighter than air?

Oh I see his face!

Where is your star?

Is it far, is it far, is it far?

When do we leave?

I believe, yes, I believe

In the heat and the rain

With whips and chains

To see him fly

So many die

We build a tower of stone

With our flesh and bone

Just to see him fly

But don't know why

Now where do we go?

Hot wind, moving fast across the desert

We feel that our time has arrived

The world spins, while we put his dream together

A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky

Oh I see his face!

Where is your star?

Is it far, is it far, is it far?

When do we leave?

Hey, I believe, I believe

In the heat and the rain

With whips and chains

Just to see him fly

Too many die

We build a tower of stone

With our flesh and bone

To see him fly

But we don't know why

Ooh, now where do we go

All eyes see the figure of the wizard

As he climbs to the top of the world

No sound, as he falls instead of rising

Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand

Oh I see his face!

Where was your star?

Was it far, was it far

When did we leave?

We believed, we believed, we believed

In heat and rain

With the whips and chains

To see him fly

So many died

We built a tower of stone

With our flesh and bone

To see him fly

But why

In all the rain

With all the chains

Did so many die

Just to see him fly

Look at my flesh and bone

Now, look, look, look, look,

Look at his tower of stone

I see a rainbow rising

Look there, on the horizon

And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home

Time is standing still

He gave back my will

Ooh ooh ooh ooh

Going home

I'm going home

My eyes are bleeding

And my heart is leaving here

The place I've known

But it's not home

Oh, please. The nukes will have gone off long before anything like that is even thought of. Of course, when that happens, the age of consent will be obsolete, because it'll be open season on everybody at that point. The world is going to end up like the Omar ending of Deus Ex Invisible War AINEC - how we get there depends on 2020.

You can look at it this way though - if you are part of the accelerate decay camp, women screaming about how they want to sell their bodies and writing SLUT all over their bodies is something you might appreciate. I'm all for disturbing, disgusting, etc. why not, it's not like I'm trying to save anything and punk is good. Also the reference was this: >>19672

This is seriously good. I never dug deep into the Crass discography. It's kinda funny how Steve Ignorant collaborated with Current 93, when a lot of modern punks see it (mistakenly and hilariously) as a 'fascist' project.

Also, it's great when punks and industrial musicians subvert/re-appropriate disco.

Ive been jamming doom and sludge metal for over 10 years now. Kinda funny to end up in a sub culture called /doomer/ when ive been a different yet identical doomer my entire adult life so far.

Big fan of the classics like Sabbath and Pentagram, Lamp of thoth, Witchfinder General, Trouble, Saint Vitus, etc. And the more modern era sludge/doom shit like eyehategod, Iron Monkey, Brainoil, Buzzoven, etc. I like some stoner rock, too, but that whole genre has turned from a cool niche thing to a faggy hipsters wet dream thanks to dudeweed culture.

Ive got a 200+ vinyl record collection that I sperged out and bought in a huge buying spree when I was really depressed once….ohhh those poor ol benjis.

I like some hardcore crustpunk like dystiopia, and arson anthem. some 90s pop shit like alice in chains and mad season are pretty deadly, too. im all over the place musically.

It just kills me that metal heads by and large are massive faggots these days. Metalheads are just pussies larping as tough guys for the most part.

This is not no wave but it's really nice song, thank you. I realized this stuff is Riot grrrl (maybe?) and that helped me to find some of more songs but I honestly have no clue where this has its roots before late 80s/90s because those bands are more just punk spin-offs. A lot influences are shown in this music, from surf rock, 60s influences, through punk and some no wave, which is really nice to see that even this type of music used to have some variety to it.

Song maybe related lyrically, girls were aware of /nightdrives/.

Unfortunately my headphones broke so I'm not listening to music now almost at all

>This is not no wave but it's really nice song, thank you

Strictly speaking you are right, but Cristina Monet was very much a part of the New York No Wave scene.

>riot grrl influences

It's the same as grunge for the most part. Heavy music from the 60s and 70s filtered through a DIY/indie sensibility. If you think about it, they were not too different from the hipsters when it came to heavily re-appropriating music from the past. The first reissue culture started with CDs and VHS tapes. Retromania by Simon Reynolds is a good read on all of this.

There are still a lot of good girl bands around. Embed related.

A lot of works by Townes Van Zandt. People ask him why he wrote so many sad songs and he told him he didn't write sad songs but hopeless ones. He's probably one of the more notable examples of someone who fits the whole doomer archetype and his music really reflects that.

It's really good, kind of as if early Sonic Youth would meet A Place to Bury Strangers. It reminded me something totally different but I used to like them - Warpaint. Girl band, sort of more melodic with that RHCP LA taste of sound. Krimson is pretty good song.

Some of the chances we take,

To make the money we make.

Manufacturing disease

The creature we can see

I'm pleased it some other day

And I've got something to say

You don't need love

So get under the rock

Now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now…

Now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now…

Now, I have a mutated brain

It is the form that's been made

You got for broke

With your prog rock show

Don't you know what I mean?

The sick things that I've seen

When you don't fall down

There's a piercing sound

It was the sky that we learned

That we're to spy on the bird

The clouds all feel

Where we don't feel real

It was implied to make a caption

"It's a pain world", is her reaction

We've answered why it's not been action

We blow the ghosts, is this our faction

This was the movie we made

And we were shooting to fate

We gather dust when you said it's a must

And in the end that we shake

It is the function that's fake

We don't feel real

You don't know how it feels

Now, we've given up a lot

And we've gone right past the spot

We're fueled inside

It's the must that we hide

It was implied to make a caption

"It's a pain world", is her reaction

We've answered why it's not been action

We blow the ghosts, is this our faction

Now, I have a mutated brain

It is the form that's been made

You got for broke

With your prog rock show
