Rowing and /HIP DRAHVE!/

Okay lads, so I recently joined the rowing team at my university.

They just had us go through a round of elimination for new guys again (a test on the erg) and if anything I don't like my numbers.

My split is decent-ish, I was well on the safe side of the men's team but by far relative to my height and weight I should've been pushing with more power.

In short, I am not putting enough HIP DRIVE into every stroke as I should be, and that's not because I don't want to. But my body hasn't figured out how to do it, I can't utilize my legs as I should be.

So, does anyone have tips on how to push through the legs on the erg? Any tips or exercises and drills. How to push for maximum hip drive on the erg and in the shell.

My background doing powerlifting just doing SL and I stopped long ago hasn't helped me much

Because of a free gym offered by school I started lifting about 5 weeks ago and just about everything I did made me feel sore (I like feeling sore) and it was really nice, but now workouts don't make more sore anymore. I've tried varying things up a lot and working stuff to the point that I can lift a much smaller portion than what I was able to when I started the workout. How do you guys train your foot work? I haven't done any footwork training since high school and am looking into getting back into it. I use to have mini hurtles that I would jump through in a bunch of awkward patterns, and it really made a difference. When I first started I was just tripping over myself and constantly stepping on the hurtles, but by senior year I could do all the normal stuff easily.

I love drinking skim milk. However, I was reading a lot of studies that said 3 glasses of milk or more a day is bad for your health. This sucks. Bulking and roids

I wanted a bit of input from the experts on this board on the subject. I recently got hold of some roids and I'm gonna complete this cycle:

Tips on OLY lifting

I’m aspiring to be an Oympic-style weightlifter, but I’m too broke to afford an OLY coach. Any tips, diet advice, and programs would be nice.

My gym has an Olympic platform with bumper plates and all. I can only do a 70 pound (32kg) snatch and a 90 pound (42kg) clean & jerk. I just try to imitate what I see other weightlifters doing, but they are probably making it look easier than it really is.

I thought about fasting, but told myself surely I could just have some chicken breast here, some scrambled eggs there - but before bed I would always binge on carbs. My solution? Fasting. Becoming an asshole/ego from lifting

Lately I've been working out harder and being more serious about eating enough to get gains etc and I've noticed that my mindset has become more aggressive. I smile less, have more negative thoughts about other people and am more outspoken about things that annoy me etc. In some ways those are good traits, not taking shit from any one, being upfront about things that annoy you rather than a passive agressive beta etc, but overall I don't think that my personality has "developed" in a good direction. Overall I'm usually a positive, extroverted guy that makes friends easily and people complement my good vibe/energy/positivity. Now I often feel like I'm on coke, just full of my self, an unwarranted sense of being above others around me, I'm more introverted etc.

Is this just a normal effect of testo levels rising? Will it level out over time, or should I do some psychedelics or something to confront my ego? I dont use roids or anything for the record.

I experienced a similar phenomenon last year as well when I became more stringent about my diet and went harder at the gym. My mindset became more negative, ie putting down others in my mind who I percieved to be below my status, I felt entitled to women and would feel pissed off etc when rejected rather than not making a big deal out of it. Then I started caring less about gains and more about my happiness, ate more crap etc (I've a fast metabolism) and I became happier, more sociable, made more friends again etc without really going out of shape in any way as I originally feared would happen.

A few years ago I had a fire lit under my ass and decided to Get Better At Life. I started down the road of lifting, eating better, getting smarter, and improving my living environment/reducing clutter/being less materialistic. There's shit tons of infographics for lifting, eating, and more reading lists than you could consume in a lifetime. I could not, however, find a useful method for sorting my room/house/desk/clothes out. "Cleaning" was often no more than vacuuming and shifting junk from one area to another. I struggled with this aspect because my approach felt like this:

1. Desire to improve my living area

4. Finished!

I never improved this aspect of my life much because I couldn't figure out how to get to the finish line - we've all seen pictures of great places to live but the gulf between reality and that endpoint was a tough nut to crack.

Ironically I found the answer I was looking for in a buddy's messy desk - a small book titled: _Spark Joy: The life-changing magic of tidying up_. It's a straightforward system that has two actions:

1. Keep the items that spark joy in your life and discard the rest.

2. How to organize/store/display your items/clothing/stuff.

I'm on a SARMs cycle of mk 677, rad 140 and cardarine. I burn 500+ calories a night on the elipitical, do push ups, sit ups, chins and full body compound lifts 3x a week and have a labour job. I also eating at a calorie deficit that is suppose to let me burn 2 lbs a week.

How fast until I get down to say 12% bodufat? Sitting at 18% now. I got a V taper and 16 inch biceps. Wanna burn off the chest and gut fat to look aesthetic. My lifts are all intermediate.

Guys what the fuck do you do about protein farts? I'm trying to bulk right now and the farts I get are insane. I find myself constantly holding in farts to the point where my stomach hurts. To give you an example of what I eat; today for breakfast I had 6 (usually have around 4) scrambled eggs and 4 slices (usually have 2) of wholegrain toast. For lunch I had a yogurt ( I eat these everyday) and some fruit. Dinner I had some fish, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and potatoes with a litre of milk. Roughly 3000 calories in total. I also take a probiotic supplement everyday. I don't even take any protein powders or anything.

Anyone else deal with this shit? I'm worried I might have IBS or something. My room fucking stinks and I have to spray air freshener all the time. It causes serious stress and anxiety for me because I'm always worried about how I smell and I always think I stink but I just can't smell myself.

Crippling DOMS

/fit/, I've been working on site as a laborer for a few weeks now, and have noticed considerable gains to my upper body, but since the work usually involves a lot of lifting and working with hands/arms, and only really a lot of climbing stairs/walking around and SOMETIMES picking some shit off the floor that makes my trousers split even more if I lift from the ground, so my calves haven't really grown much either.

I'm kinda sick of the lack of calf growth in my body because:

1) I know bad genetics is no excuse, but some people start off with decent calves, and I've always really had shit ones, but decent thighs, so the schism between them is even more obvious. They look quite disproportionate even.

2) The nature of the job means that I'll usually come home sweaty and tired, thinking I've had a workout at work but only my upper body seems to really look much different, and I know I already had a decent upper body anyway.

3) I've been looking for a solution to my calf problem for a while now, but I have no intention of getting a gym membership or anything of that sort.

Man it's been so long since I've visited this board. But I've decided to call upon my old friends for a favor.

Now, I understand spot reduction is the biggest myth bro science ever spouted and that I can't just simply lose fat in one area.

That being said, I'm a T-Rex and I simply need to get rid of that state.

Now I don't want to follow some routine that focuses on the upper body till it all evens out. I need to have over all smaller legs and thighs because in a sport I'm practicing bigger legs aren't a plus, beyond a certain point bigger legs are a liability holding you back rather than helping you.

Now I don't know what I am supposed to do for this, so any help is appreciated.

I thought I would try and maintain my caloric intake or go on a slight cut, and focus on the upperbody in the gym and leave my legs only to cardio (rowing, running). This way, since I'm not doing work to maintain my lowerbody muscles their volume would be reduced and that cardio and my sport would maintain it at the volume I needed, Fat of course will go at the same rate unless I turn to have been fucked up by nature and have higher fat distribution there.

I also believe that doing more cardio involving leg muscles or doing higher volume leg work in the gym would make the muscles adapt by reducing the volume of glycogen reservoirs as opposed to lower volume training like SS or SL. I'm just pulling this outta my arse here.

Zinc Suppliments

I got some chelated zinc supplements because I know that my diet may be low in zinc, impeded by soy, and drained by fapping (I've improved on that last one a lot). One problem is that it started giving me a terrible morning shit, so I stopped but I still retained a marked increase in body feeling and vitality.

Do any of you have any experience with zinc supplements? Apparently this is not uncommon due to zinc toxicity. Does anyone have advice?

Moving forward I'm thinking of taking zinc after fapping and once or twice a week, although the bottle recommends once a day. My brand is sundown naturals and each pill is 50 mg, which is apparently 30 mg above the daily recommendations.

About myopia

Have anyone any solution regarding myopia?

I know there is surgery (even though there is in REALITY around 20% of complication, like halos at night etc..), but seriously, surgery is not gonna change anything I'll pass to my descendants. I would be able to not wear glasses (and that's not even sure since it can changes after the operation), but I'm too afraid of the complication, and having dry eyes. Moreover, the industry of eye surgery is very very powerful. That's why there is a huge marketing around it (I'll not talk about how they passed injuries for complications to make them able to operate etc..).

Seriously, because of myopia, I feel like I'm crippled. I don't think any normal functioning human could have this disease if he develops normally. What is crazy is that I never actually realized until now how bad this is for me (huge myopia, -6 at each eyes). I only truly considered it when I tried to get on the "fighting" side. For example, because of my myopia, I can't do competitive boxing in my country (limit being at -3.5).

I know the Bates method, it seems good, even though there is a lot of "scammers" around making money out of it, calling themselves specialist of the method (it truly makes the thing feels bad) while not having any background. That's truly a get back

Moreover, it seems that myopia don't have anything to do with genetics, even though having parents with myopia makes you more prone to have it (I would personally put it on bad habits they transmit to you). Recent studies put the cause on lack of sun light when young because of modern schooling… So maybe the next generations will be spared (they already implemented changes in asia)… But can I do anything about that?

Extreme Cutting

Eating >500k a day until I'm not an enormous ham-planet anymore.

Current Goal

What's your current goal, /fit/, and how is your progress on it? Doesn't all have to be /fit/-related, making any positive change in your life goes. So, I'll start:

I started at 235, now I'm 227 after around four weeks. I plan on losing about two pounds every week.

>Start a bodybuilding routine

I used to do a strength routine a few years ago, never reached very impressive numbers but it benefits me to this day. I don't want to measure myself by where I used to be back when I lifted regularly, and besides, I'd like some aesthetics. I think my genetics are quite good for that. My upper arms are naturally big and I even have some visible veins, and my skeleton is that of a barrel, good conditions to become buff.

I first wanna focus on the weightloss and start the routine when I'm lower, maybe 200lbs. Otherwise, the two goals might interfere. They don't have to, but I know who I am and that in my case, they probably will. Until then, I'll try to get back in the habit of going to the gym, and see what that feels like with reduced caloric intake. That's just the experimentation phase.

Oh, and one more good thing: Higher volume (thinking of 8 to 12 reps on most exercises, besides deadlift) means I get more practice with the moves, and one of my biggest issues is not muscular strength but that my coordination is shite and I therefore can't recruit my muscles properly. So a bodybuilding routine will probably do more for my strength levels than one focused on muh powerlifting.

Forming good nutrition habits as a picky eater

Just how in the hell are you supposed to push yourself to eat healthy if you are and have always been an extremely picky motherfucker when it comes to food? Do any of you dudes actually work in the fitness world? How is it? What do you do? How hard is it competition-wise? From gym instructor to being a bloody kinesiologist, I wanna hear about it.

I'll be honest, I'm a sad cunt right now. When I used to lift (I really want to get back into it, I really enjoyed the gym) I realized that it was the closest thing approximating a "passion" that I had as it allowed me to feel accomplishment by solely relying on my own body. How to Deal with Other People?

/fit/ anons, I have problems.

My parents bring in junk food and make it harder to lose weight. It's worse when my mother says I don't have a weight problem, even though I'm 180lb which surely isn't muscle. A while ago I was very obese, 230lb; I had started calorie cutting, improving my diet, and finding some spare time to exercise. But only when I am away from the household and find time to eat at places. When I am stuck around the household, I fall into their habits. It's like my parents want to keep me fat, and they're very indifferent about the weight problem.

As an anon who was once obese, it's difficult to cut food cravings. Probably a lack of protein. But I need the strength to resist temptations and cook for myself rather than lazily eat. I'm still overweight and trying to crush the final curb with 20 lb to lose before I make for gains. It hurts my morale when my parents tell me, "Anon, you're completely fine; I don't want you to lose or gain anymore." I know I am not fine, and I have an awful stomach. I desire to lose the weight first and proceed to get an athletic build with rigorous running…

The running part proceeds to another problem: social anxiety. I dislike going outdoors and have no street smarts. I get nervous around other people and feel like I could be attacked or something.

Before an anon proceeds to tell me it's my fault, it's very hard to maintain a good diet with constant inflow of junk food coming in. It really sucks being coddled… it makes you weak (socially and physically).

How accurate are calorie counters on workout machines?

As it says in the title, I was wondering: How accurate are calorie counters on workout machines?

I'm asking because they seem too forgiving and yet wildly varying from machine to machine - for example, me doing 5 km on the elliptical machine in 17 mins yields about 80 calories or so, while 1 km in 5 min on the rowing machine yields 50, and a workout buddy who's a fatty trying to get better seems really encouraged by 15 minutes and 2 km on the treadmill yielding 150 calories.

I'm asking partly out of sheer curiosity, but also because I'm trying to put together a calorie in/calorie out equation, and I need accurate numbers to plug in.

Hey /fit/. Fa/tg/uy here. I've been a fat fuck my entire life 25 years, and I never really cared. I had my vidya and warhammer 40k, and as a quasi-NEET only ever worked part time jobs, never more than 20 hours a week, that was good enough. Problem is, I'm a fat fuck who is used to sitting still for days, playing video games or assembling 40k models, and Dagohir, the LARP he does, is a combat game, so it is the opposite of what I've done for a decade. So while he's going easy on me, I'm getting my ass kicked regardless. I can't move fast enough, I tire quickly, and I'm not strong enough to hold back his charges, even when I've got a tower shield and am bracing against it. However, that wasn't what even made me decide to get into shape.

Two days ago he had let me borrow his biggest Gambeson a type of padded armor, that was XXL. It was too tight for me to get it on. That was when I realized how fucking fat I am. It was so fucking humiliating, and I had to make a change. I loved playing vidya, and I loved playing 40k, but LARP, as goofy as it can be, has my passion, and the fact that I can't take part in something I've fallen in love with is spirit-breaking.

Here are a few of the worst offenders at my gym:

Lanky, bald guy. Often seen hopping on one leg like he's playing hopscotch or 1/16 pistol squatting on a bosu ball. I just stare at him and think "why are you here?".


Tiny, asian granny. Comes into the gym wearing her coat and brings her bag in with her. Puts all her things on the floor in the free weight area then grabs the lightest pair of dumbbells on the rack, stands in front of the mirror (often in front of other people) and does these retarded "side crunches" where shes just shifting weight from one leg to the other for about 5 minutes.

Ancient and haggard, clad all in grey. She brings a chair from outside the gym and does everything sitting down. Always asks the staff to turn the heating up to the detriment of everyone actually working hard.

And so on. I'm all for old people being active (I want to still be strong when I'm 50) but when you're that old and you've obviously never lifted before in your life why start? What do they really have to gain? Just go for a walk, it's free and keeps them out of my gym. Thank you.

Need help to get in shape

First of all, I tried posting this on halfchan (inb4 "cuckchan gtfo"), but I didn't get any satisfactory answers.

I am not all too new to lifting. I tried lifting in my teens, but I never got too much results; I grew stronger, but I didn't gain weight - this was in part to the fact that I thought you could lift, drink a protein shake and it would sort itself out.

I started lifting and eating properly much later, when I started in a new job and one of my co-workers was a semi-pro bodybuilder. I told him that I had tried working out in my teens w/o results and he told me that I simply wasn't eating enough, so he helped me out with calories and pointed out the 5x5 routine. That's when I started seeing results; I gained approx. 20 kgs. in two months (a lot of water, but I didn't mind because I've always been skinny and didn't get "fat").

Now, I would like you fine lads to rate my diet:


2 slices of extra coarse bread (75-100%) with 4 slices of boiled ham and 2 slices of low-fat cheese

2 eggs

1 glass of non-concentrated orange juice


100g of rice cakes

1 shake, which contains: 25g. iso-whey, 100g. rolled oats and 1 glass of semi-skimmed milk


Salad, which consists of: 150g. iceberg lettuce, 20g. walnuts, 20g. tomatoes and 15g. of Udo's Choice as seasoning

Weightlifting shoes

I recently joined a gym and started reading Starting Strength.

What weightlifting shoes should I get? I'm 5'11" and have 31" inseam if that's in any way helpful to determine the ideal heel height.

The Adidas Powerlift 3 seem pretty good for the price and have a 0.6" heel, but it's made of EVA which is more compressible than TPU, so it's probably not ideal for weightlifting.

I'd prefer a big-brand shoe because they're easier to find in stores and I'd rather try them on in instead of ordering online.

I don't go very hard on the tofu though because I already get enough protein from the beans and potatoes I eat for the other meals. Your taste buds, and your stomach, will thank you for eating pounds of potatoes and beans everyday. So enjoyable without the disgusting butter that most people lather onto their meals.

In addition, it's so satisfying to eat my meals and not feel disgusted afterwards by that oily feeling you get from eating meat or dairy.

Secondary reason, explanation why running makes you lose weight.

I've come to a conclusion, idea that may be widely accepted but I haven't heard it.

When you run your digestion is vastly accellerated due to the up and down and shock movements that occur. I noticed this as I ran 6-7 kilometres for the first time in years and afterwards out came a piece of undigested , raw, intact red meat.

Early morning lifting - Food?

Want to start lifting early in the morning, was looking for some nutrition tips. I can't lift on a full stomach so I figure i'll slam back some coffee and maybe a small snack (cheese or something) and go lifting.

I am 190 cm and 81 kg currently(6.25' 180 lbs), I play waterpolo in amateur league and want to get the body of my idol, Terry Schroeder. My pros:

- Decent frame since I was a swimmer in high school

- Stopped consuming alcohol, only drinks occationally

I live my days usually sedentary, and I believe I am around 5'7, I am not fat at all, but actually pretty slim, but maybe a little too slim. I just want to be 5'9 - 5'11''. Is it possible?

So I just got a prescription for an Albuterol inhaler, I could store it until august 2018.

I was injured for a month (third degree burns on my hands). So I didn't lift and I lost a lot of weight. Now all I can do is eat (not fat yet but I am starving all the time). And my living situations I cannot go to a gym for a while.

So in this shit situation how can I salvage my gains and get back to being fit? Just by hitting the bodyweight exercises hard?

Really feel apathetic and discouraged now. I will be missing the iron church.

Losing weight

having some trouble losing weight. I am 180 lb and want to lose like 15 pounds ideally, but would be satisfied with 170 i think if enough of it were muscle.

Basically I think the trick to losing weight is to learn how to live a little hungry. The problem (i suspect with others as well) is that when i get hungry I get headaches. If i sleep half a third of my life, I really would prefer half of the other 2/3 not to be completely miserable but that's what happens. Besides giving headaches, being hungry is constantly distracting and I can't afford to be distracted and in pain while at work (i work in healthcare and without really explaining what i do, there's a possibility someone could die if I make a mistake).

How do people cope with this? does this eventually go away? do the hunger pangs and headaches dissipate when leptin levels are finally corrected (wouldn't this take months?)

I realize this is a shitty thread, but this board seems a bit dead so does anyone have any input?
