Happy Birthday Haruko

Here we are again, at the Spring Solstice, March 20th.

For those not in the know, FLCL provides very little information about much of the personal age of the characters featured in it. One omitted piece of information is Haruko's birthday. Now, in lieu of an official one, many people would chose to use the date that theirsource material first came out, or was dubbed in English, or use their own birthday. For me, though, it's different. Haruko's name in Japanese means 'Spring Child', so this day, March 20th, marking the first day of spring, seems the day most appropriate for me to celebrate her.

Her spring-affiliation holds a lot of meaning to me, /mai/. To me, Haruko is my Spring– my rebirth. Like the Spring comes and brings warmth to the world after Winter has frozen it over, so too does she bring warmth to me and revitalize me, even when I have sunken into the cold abyss. Like the Spring sun melts away the frost from the ground and casts out the clouds and overcast of the winter sky, Haruko enters into my heart and destroys the coldness of self-doubt and loathing. In front of her brilliant light and warmth, there isn't a single sheet of ice inside me that doesn't melt and crack when I think of her. Even the dark cold of loneliness and longing for her touch can barely stand it. She is my sun and stars; the springtime breeze on my face and the blossoming of cherry blossoms and every other wonderful thing about the season. Today I stepped out and just stared up into the sky and took in a face-full of breeze and sunshine for a couple minutes as I thought of her, and how happy I was to celebrate her birthday today.

Today I'll be taking her out to see a movie, start up some spring cleaning, maybe take a couple pictures (if I do, I'll post them later), I'll even set up a nice little dinner for us. But as I said before– Haruko is my revitalizing force. I'm making a commitment to her for my birthday to self-improve for her, because even though her love for me is as unconditional as mine for her, I know that she loves to see me grow as do the spring flowers sprouting up from the ground. For her, I want to bloom as proudly and brightly as I can, and that's my promise to her.

Loner Waifus

It just crossed my mind recently, one of the things me and Kino have in common is that we're both loners.

I don't hate other people, but I feel uncomfortable being in groups and just generally dislike it, even if the people in the groups are close friends or even my own family. I'm more of a one on one kinda guy.

I think most of our waifus/husbandos have "that" character that they're usually "shipped" with. Whether it be their sibling, best friend, rival, subordinate, comrade, fans always seem to find a ship and try to force it onto the series.

I posted this on another thread already but I figured it could deserve its own thread.

Here's what happened.

So Minami Kotori is mai waifu.

It had been one month or so I'd say I was I have been in love with her but I'm confident this is it. She's the one.

Here's the probblem, though.

I saw a hentai game on Nishikino Maki on some thread on /a/ yesterday and had the giant curiosity to check it out.

I act on impulse most of the time.

I never had played a hentai game before.

It goes a bit like this: she wants to become a school idol and fucks an agent (the player) for money.

What happens is that I'm extremely shocked by this, overwhelmed with remorse for, in a sense, cheating on mai waifu, I can't feel her by my side anymore, I still sure love her but it's not like I can sense her by my side, nor can I imagine being with her because of the terrible thing I did. What's more, I can't seem to watch anything related to muse without thinking of this memory I created for myself, the game.

I want to be with her again.

I want to forget this terrible thing I did.

Maybe start everything over, like it's all part of the past, is a solution? As thought we haven't really met to this point?

I just love Kotori too much and don't want it to be over because of such a stupid thing.

Alright, so let's try to play a little game /mai/. In this thread the objective is to answer the person who replied before you and compare both of your SO according to certain steps. In order to "complete" this thread you will have to fulfill each of those steps:

1)Compare both characters' personalities, what do they both have in similar spiritually-wise, and their differences

2)Compare both characters' family, what do they have in similar and their differences, and if you can't, answer as if you were their only family.

3)Compare both characters' abilities, how similar their abilities could be, what's special about them and what are the differences between both characters.

as about differences It's the other way around obviously.

4)Compare both characters' behaviors when your SO is acting in front of you and the differences, What would happen and what wouldn't. For example, if they would blush seeing you and if the other person's beloved would act the same way about their own lover.

5)Compare both characters' universes, what are the similarities and the differences both of those make the characters goes through same experiences and/or same difficulties, and finally very different experiences/difficulties, for example how a character went through a situation easily and how the other one hardly did, or how they both went through a similar experience easily or hardly, and explain why.

6)Lastly, Compare both characters' feelings you think your SO would have for you, the similarities and the differences as well, for example what kind of feelings your beloved would have for you, how similar it would be or wouldn't be if differences, compared to the beloved of the person you are replying to.

In a second step, you will have to come back to your own replies and those of the person who answered you, and repeat the same steps again, 1 to 6.

The objective of this thread is first to have a bit of fun talking about how much our beloveds are similar or how they aren't, and secondly make us wonder about how similarities and differences can explain a lot of things, for example their past, their choices, etc..

When you get older

I know that most people on /mai/ are folks roughly in their 20's with waifus that are either older teenagers or young adults. Sure things seem fine enough now when you're roughly the same age, but what do you plan on doing once you get 5, 10, 20 or more years older? Do you seem them aging along with you or do they remain the same age? Do you ever imagine them at a different age than the one portrayed?

Around when I reach 30 years old or so, I plan to commission and/or draw more art of her that portrays her at an age close to my own. I want to keep doing this until I kick the bucket, including art that portrays her in her senior years. Mine didn't physically age when she went through several years of time loops, but beyond that she should keep aging…unless what she did at the end of Rebellion somehow stopped her from aging, although I don't think that would nor does she have a reason for doing so. Don't know about you guys, but having an age gap close to a decade long with her would make me uncomfortable. Telling people I love a 2D girl is hard enough as it is…

You're waifu is real but...

Let's have a thread devoted to making your loved one real, at the cost of a stipulation. Think of it as making a deal with the devil to make them real. I want to see how far some of us will go to do so.

As usual, feel free to post your own stipulations that you think might be a good brain buster.

Let's start with a few:

>They are real, and they can communicate with anyone just fine, but not with you directly except through physical actions with their body like hugging or strangulation, for example. This cannot be circumvented (I.E. learning sign language, writing notes, asking others "Can you tell Anon that I…" etc.) and it also effects you the same way.

I have some weird feeling this is going to confuse some people but I tried my best to clarify it as much as possible.

3. If for only one day for everyone to share that vital time together, I think I'd do it. Besides, I'd be fucking dead!

Hobbies

What's your thing /mai/? Would it affect your relationship? If yes- how?

For me it's biology( terraristics, enthmology, and specimen preservation, to be exact). Most people seem opposed to the idea of keeping scorpions and such in your house( though I stay away from the lethal ones), and disgusted by the corpses( mostly invertebrates) I work with( Ethcs-wise I'm fine, since I never kill for the sole purpose of expanding my collection, and find the very thought abhorrent).

I see how it could lead to some conflict, judgng by the general tendency.

Since she has no cannon stance on the subject, I like to think she'd( at least reluctantly) accept it. Maybe even catch on, to some degree.

As for the other things I do, they might actually work in my favour. I think she'd like my artistic attempts.

What The Future Will Hold

With our first anniversary steadily approaching I couldn´t help but start thinking about this topic lately. In life a lot can change in a relatively short time span, a week from now on you´ll be a different person from what you used to be today and while this is a great tool for being able to innovate yourself and turn your life around to begin anew ever so now, your waifu/husbando probably won´t change much accordingly to you but stay the same, stagnate in his personnality from the source material so to speak. Take the world changing around you in account and it does not better the stipulation.

So, where do you think are you two going to be 10, say 20 years into the future ?

Will you do it ? Will you eventually break her/his heart /mai/ ?

Like I said, I am relatively new to waifuism, maybe some more seasoned waifubros could share their experience with this issue.

I know that this is a delicate topic and I definitely do not want to imply that anyone here does not love his waifu/husbando dearly enough, it is just a thing that I needed to get off my chest, I hope that you will understand.

Away Time

Spending time together is wonderful, but how often do you spend time away from each other? This can be on your part or her part, for instance she could go on a vacation trip with her friends/family (or something more extraordinary for non-SoL waifus). I find it's a great way to reinforce love in the relationship. It hurts deeply when you can't interact with her (like you otherwise would) but the feeling of seeing each other again is so powerful.

It doesn't happen as often with Kyouko now as it did in the earlier stages (that was mostly on my part due to life issues). During summer or winter holidays she usually will go on a catch up trip with her group of friends from school (in my headcannon they moved apart after graduation). That's the hardest thing because it's over a week that I don't see her, but other than that she can spontaneously stay overnight at her best friend's house (which is usually her way of teasing me if I'm not giving her enough affection).

Waifuism and your 3D Family

Since someone recently came out of the waifu closet to at least one of their parents, I'm gonna ask. How would your family react to you having a waifu? Or even owning merch of her/him like a daki? Have any of you encountered either of these things? How did it pan out? I feel like my parents would start to get concerned about me, honestly. I have had problems with depression and anxiety so I feel like they'd try to make me see a psychiatrist. I know they would mean well but yeah, they'd look at me a whole lot differently. But that's if I straight out told them I had one. If I just owned a daki they'd just think I was a bit strange, but nothing to worry about.

Help narrowing down my waifu so it doesn't destroy my laifu

I have heard that having more than one waifu is a grave sin and should be avoided. Have any of you had a hard time picking that one special waifu when there were other choices you were seriously considering? Although I cannot pinpoint the exact time or person I had this discussion with, I recall bringing up the prospect of hiring someone to dress up like your waifu and convincingly act like them. I am thinking about writing down a complete waifu theory, building from the ground up, starting with metaphysics and moving on to aesthetics and such.

Which of the Seven Deadly Sins best represents your waifu, because no waifu is a pure angel, right? For those who need a quick recap

For my waifu, she'd definitely show some Greed, Wrath, and Lust, but her defining sin would without a doubt be Pride. It makes sense, seeing as Dragons themselves are traditionally symbols of greed and pride, my waifu would see everything she did as absolute perfection. That's one of the things I love about her. I don't know why but I've always found extreme pride to be an attractive trait. She's also a purpleish violet too, so that works.

Nozomi's parents are never seen in the anime, but I'm assume that they were good towards her in general, even though she was alone all the time due to their work. And I don't think they'd approve of a foreigner with their child especially in my current state, but I think that we could work beyond that.

School with your Waifu

What do you think going to the same school with your waifu would be like? Would you two be in the same grade level, or would she be a grade or two higher/lower? Or, if you think it'd fit, maybe it'd be a Teacher/Student relationship? Who'd be the senpai and who'd be the kohai, and what would your school time antics consist of together?

My waifu would probably be a grade level or two above me, and would take her schoolwork more serious than I. Of course, she'd love to help tutoring, it'd make her proud to see other people both see just how smart she is, and know the fact that someone was helped because of her. I'd love to follow my senpai Waifu around like a puppy, helping her with whatever she tasks me with, and listening intently to her advice. And then, in the library while we're reading a book together, I'd lean close to her on her shoulder while she drapes a wing around me, staying close to each other.

Novelember

Following the success that was Inktober, I figured that for National Novel Writing Month, it would be a good idea to do another series of challenges to boost the writing skills of various anons here. There will be 3 separate "brackets" to participate in, each catering towards different anons and their writing abilities. Of course, you may mix and match as you please or do whatever makes you happy. The cross-category rules are:

1. You do not have to post your work when finished, but you may certainly post it here to help other anons here. Some may find inspiration from your work and vice versa. For longer posts, use pastebin + a short description regarding what you wrote about.

2. If you miss a day that's fine, or even if you don't feel like doing a day's topic, then feel free to write about something different. The goal here is to help the writing skills of various anons and help them explore a new medium to connect to their waifu in. You may also modify a topic if it seems too rigid/doesn't appeal to you. You can also do one ahead of time if you wish, and come back to an older one at a later time, just be sure to label them when posting.

Secret Santa

Hello and welcome to the first ever waifu-bro Secret Santa! This is a collaborate event intended for participants of both /mai/ and /waifu/, as is fitting for the holiday season if the British and German soldiers of 1914 on the western front could have a ceasfire on Christmas, then we can damn well get along during the holiday season too! Although in no way mandatory, everyone is encouraged to participate in some manner. With that, I will answer some questions you all may have in regards to how we'll be enacting this all out

For those of you that are unaware, a secret santa event is one where the participants are randomly assigned a person from the group to give a gift while another group member is assigned to give that person a gift. While you know who you are assigned to give your gift to, the person of whom you are receiving a gift from is to remain a secret until you actually receive your gift.

>can I participate even if I can't spend any money?

YES. We will have a “free” option for waifu-fags that are unable to spend any money. People in this group will be able to exchange gifts that wont cost them any money through email or private messages, such as drawings or creative writing.

>how are you all going to have this all set up?

Everyone that wants to participate will need to make a response in this thread with their waifu AND send an email to the provided email address (throwaway email accounts like cock.li emails are fine, so long as you can retain access of it) with all of the necessary information. Our reasoning for this is to allow for moderators to check your posting history and make sure you aren't someone with no posting history that is merely trying to cause conflict in the secret santa event such as getting a gift without sending one out. We reserve the right to refuse anyone from participating in the event if we have reason enough to believe that you aren't trustworthy. In your email (read: NOT the post you make in the thread), you will need to provide the following information: who your waifu is, what your budget is, what kind of gifts you deem acceptable and unacceptable (please try to make sure all of these are things that fit in your budget, as if you were going to be buying them yourself, and be more general with the types of gifts you want instead of linking ONE SPECIFIC gift if at all possible. Everyone is going to be grouped up based on the maximum amount of money they are willing to spend, with one other slot being for folks in the free slot. Obviously, what the actually grouping will be will depend on many factors such as how many participants we get and what everyone's budget is.
