Duskbreach Keep, Capital of the Holy Church of Light's devine kingdom. This massive city is the home of the Holy King, and his powerful Holy Guard.
Under their rule, humans are safe from the corrupt menace known as monsters, bestial mindless beings that turned their back on the God of Light.
Monsters are known to take down entire armies, and instead of offering a quick painless death, instead drag their victims into the darkness, to do only God knows what to them.
Due to the threat monsters pose against humans, all citizens are forbidden from leaving the walls and boundaries of any human city, under penalty of death. This is to keep the corruption of monsters out of the city, and from any compromising information from falling into their hands, at all costs.
While on his day of rest, Squire Anonson stumbles upon a hidden trap door in an abandoned tool shack belonging to his family's farm.
Curious he goes inside, finding a dark winding tunnel. When he reaches the end, he finds an cave exit, that leads far outside the city walls!
Fearing for his life for committing such a grievous crime, Anonson attempts to run back through and pretend it never happened. But he finds that he's not alone.
